  • Join us for a very relaxed and damp day out. Apologies for the audio variation - blame the rain. This half day mission to Tasman Island was in search of Striped Trumpeter. Something we haven't targeted for some time. Plenty of Ocean Perch (aka Gurnard) to filter through, but our 2 bag limit of Stripey was fast over in a couple of drops. Stopping for a quick flick for a fast 10 Squid on the way in and we were back at the ramp by lunch to clean up and get dry. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for a more action-packed dive video coming up next as the 23-24 Cray season opens! @itswizza :)

I need to learn how to catch these since we can’t catch flathead anymore. My 4.2m tinny may be a bit small to venture out there though 😂

They come into spawn Sep/Oct time (closure period) but in November you get a lot of the spillover or later spawners. So in shallower that time of year would be a better time to target them in a smaller boat.

You are also likely to find Jackass Morwong (Mowies) swimming with Stripeys. They are good eating too, and the good old Gurnard make nice fish fingers crummed and deep-fried 👍

What do you attach the shark clips to on the rig? Is there a dropper loop there or something?

I only used snoods with a shark clip when fishing for Blue-eye as I run a thicker backbone. All my Stripey rigs consist of 3 hooks either tied (dropper loop) or crimped with branch swivels. I hope that answers your question?😊
