Yeah.. horrible little creatures really. I wonder if they do it quick or latch on and take their time chewing.. I've never really thought about it much or looked into it.
So you use a sacrificial weight to the bottom and then set the reel in free spool correct? What kind of current do y’all have there I’m guessing little to none dropping like that how long do you normally allow the fish to eat before trying to come tight?
We run a light drag after the brick is off. And then free spool on the bite, maybe 30-60sec, until we confirm it is a bite. We don't have much current to worry about here so we use weightless baits.
What an awesome way to fish, on the east coast of the US our current has us stuck using 6-10 lbs I’m sure y’all’s hook to catch ratio is so much better than ours, gorgeous fish!
Not necessarily. We are about to refresh the topshot and windon on the Tiagra so we thought we'd get out use out of it 🤣 It is spooled with heavier braid than the Talica too so we can go a bit harder on that one too.
Dream fish, congratulations on another tag and release
Cookie cutters got a bit of a feed. Nice fish...good stuff!

So good, great job on tagging another sword 👌
Yes Yes and more Yes, thankyou for taking us along
Nice work legends!! Any chance you could do a run down on what you’re looking for on the sounder when picking an area for swords ?
Heavy scatter in midwater, and downwards towards the bottom. Its not uncommon to mark fish in/around the scatter layer.
Great work again guys
you are a very strong team
Do you guys do an FG from the top shot to the braid? How long is the top shot?
We do a PR knot from the top shot to braid. We use a fairly short top shot, 20-30m. It works for us, so we've stuck with it.

Does the captain prefer the tiagra over the talica?

@@itswizza so you can push it up and tell the big feller to hold on ;) you might end up in the drink Naomi ;)
Yep. I fight with one foot under the gunwale 😂
Have you tried dropping a Giant Squidwings for a sword ? We hooked one last year
I haven't, but I do have one of those. I did see there was a nice 183kg sword caught on one in NZ last year.
