    At 3.53 you put what you call a blank on the floor and nothing is mentioned about it! Whats the crack with that as I have that blank sat between the last clutch and end plate when I took apart my clutch today

    Thanks your video is really helpful. I''ve just started riding my dad's old Bantam having not riden fir 34 years, Dad died a couple of years ago. The bike had been running well until recntly when , on a hot day it broken down three times in a short ride out. I checked the spark and there is one and fuel getting to the engine . I recently cleaned out the carb and took it for another ride when it started misfiring and stalled. On the seafront in Brighton I stripped the carb again an it started and run for a short period. then started to missfire and loose poer , When I pulled the clutch in and reved it it picked up again. I did wonder if there is muck in the fuel from the petroltank but I'm planning to replace the coil. Have you got any tips for replacing the coil when in the bike? Also, I dont have workshop space so will be doing the fix on the side of the road, how long should a fix take? Thanks again, I'm going to watch you other videos.

      any dirt in the fuel from an old tank can block the carb very quickly . I have to clean mine all the time . replacing the coil isn’t a hard job . remember never to solder the coil ! just fold the wire in the loop . always use a copper. wire . good luck

      Feeler gauge is better mate . Sometimes when your on the road you'll find that a thin bit of card will do. Cigarette packet is the "Bantamites" favourite ! lol

    Nice video, would you use a new old stock coil, or simply a pattern coil, I see you used a green pattern coil, which colour is best green, blue, also just a thought Villiers HT coil have to be soldered on the primary side, could get away with a little solder

    • @classicsmallmotorcycles2732
      @classicsmallmotorcycles2732 5 лет назад

      Hi mate. The coils are susceptible to heat. I wouldn't solder them. Many "Bantamites" feel that the green coils last longer. Coils can be a bit hit and miss with these little bikes. Good luck .

      @@classicsmallmotorcycles2732 Thank you for your reply, which company did you use to buy your H T coil, I bought a green coil recently but the result was a very weak spark, as soon as I changed to a N.O.S. coil (WIPAC) it seem to work maybe my coil was too cheap would appreciate any advice.

  • @KStewart-th4sk

    I don't see why you would have to check for TDC. You should be able to turn the engine until the point wiper arm is on the high lobe of the/a cam and set the points. I done 2, 4, 6, and 8 cyl. engines back in the day, magneto and battery systems, never once pulling plug(s) to check for TDC or any other timing marks. Turn the engine over until wiper arm is on any lobe and set the points--done.

    • @classicsmallmotorcycles2732
      @classicsmallmotorcycles2732 5 лет назад

      Hi mate . Sometimes the cam woodruff key becomes worn or slightly bent. Checking TDC isn't a bad idea on a 70 year old machine .

  • @KStewart-th4sk
    @KStewart-th4sk 5 лет назад

    I heard you say never to solder that HT lead wire on to the coil. That makes a very poor connection on the coil just stuck through like that. Surely there is a better way! Why wouldn't they put a spade type connection or do they not recommend a way to connect that wire securely? You would think that ring could be soldered or why haven't they put a pigtail if it is not safe to solder? Small screw and nut?

    My old Bantam had cork inserts in the clutch plate. I hit some gravel and came off my Bantam. When I picked the bike up the engine was still running but the clutch wouldn't work so I had to push it home. Next day I examined the clutch and all the cork inserts had fallen out of the clutch plates. You could buy the cork inserts at the dealers but once fitted they had to be ground down to the correct thickness. I loved my Bantam as it was my first bike at 16. Happy days!

    Hi there , Ive found your vids invaluable to maintain my bantam. How many do you have out regarding the bantam ? I have the Haynes manual but i would like a more in depth Workshop manual.Is there one out there ? I have a totally re built Bantam but have a problem of the cable nipple slips off the clutch mechanism when i pull clutch lever fully. Ive tried every position of adjustment but it persists. Any ideas THanks again Elaine

    • @classicsmallmotorcycles2732
      @classicsmallmotorcycles2732 7 лет назад

      Hi Elaine. The best way i have found relocating the clutch cable to the engine is to lay the bike on its side. Be an idea to drain the tank beforehand. If you shine a lead light in to the where the cable pulls the clutch mechanism you will see a forked lever. If you carefully slot the cable in you can adjust the clutch up (with the bolt on the bell on the side of the engine) and that tention should hold the cable in place. I might make a clutch cable video . I think that ive made 5 or 6 videos. Im glad that you like them. Sorry for late reply.
