I would have thought it would be better to wait until the guitar has thawed before putting on the compound. Cold makes material retract or shrink, heat would make it expand. Maybe you would have had better results if you would have don’t the opposite? I don’t know. Kudos to you though, I wouldn’t even attempt to do this, cuz I have no patience & know I would mess it up 😂

I think the amber tip looked better. The cream switches would turn to amber color as they age, so I thought it matched the whole reliced theme.

If you did the recording with the stock pickups, they sound pretty good!

When using stripper, wrap the body with plastic wrap after. It keeps the stripper from drying out.

Awesome! I got that same guitar, but in a purplish color, for $10 at a yard sale. Restrung it & the bridge bolts snapped right off! lol Took it to my luthier & he put in new bolts, we put in a Duncan designed Detonator pickup & a set of Grovers we had laying around & it ended up playing & sounding awesome! I’m thinking of doing to mine what you did to yours! You should have put your own logo on it! Isn’t it funny they put the Gibson open book headstock on these cheap guitars, & charge top dollar for the new Epiphones with that headstock? Rock on!

Matty...oh my! You went deep on this. All that routing free hand - no fence, no template. Very impressive! Brave move installing the upper horn toggle switch. I would have woosed out by enlarging the existing control cavity and used a Tele plate on top. But good for you - no guts, no glory! The fingerboard looks great. Beautiful makeover.

The Chinese factory that make the body and necks for Chibsons are Epiphone employees or ex ones , so this is why they are usually spot on. The tuners are usually the Epi ones as well.

It looks nice, very different! I love to play rhythm on a P90 and then switch to a humbucker for a solo.

I have a question about the additional nitro you added. These guitars come with nitro finishes and then some are slightly or heavily reliced. Did you just paint right over the relic? I assume the nitro fuses to the nitro from Cathy? Is it weird if any of the relic is embedded below a coat or two of new nitro? -P

What is the pickup you put on the guitar ? Did you get that from Cathy as well or install it (if you did send a link or product name so I can find it please!) Thank you !!!

once you spend all that time and money upgrading all the parts/electronics you have a very cheap wooden construction with high end or just basic parts. I don't see the point in any of this, and honestly would never rely on it for any work in studio, at venues, or with other musicians

I have that very guitar. It has become one of my faves. All I did was replace the bridge pickup as the pups squeal.

If you find the right Chinese seller, what they're selling are actually Gibson rejects. They are guitars made in an official Gibson manufacturing facility which are rejected for any number of reasons, sometimes something very minor. These are sold for cheap often in batches, and there are certain conditions to adhere to, to sell them. This is how I got my cheap, matching V and Explorer set, and they're just fine for me.

I finally completed my unfinished Cathy LP Special DC. Whew, a nitro TV yellow finish is a real process! Every component I used for the build is Gibson or what Gibson uses on their $US4200 custom shop model. I'll email you some photos soon.
