One of my customers actually brought in one of those Maestro Les Paul´s in to my workshop 6-7 years ago, she wanted to make the guitar great for her son that was 12 and just started to play more heavy music, they bought it at Elgiganten for like 799 SEK. I levelled the frets, I made a new bone nut, I put on a little better tuners and most of all put in a used EMG81 that I had hanging around the workshop for some years, as I like kids learning to play guitar i decided to do the fretleveling for free and just charge a low cost for the tuners and the EMG, like 650 SEK in total I think it was. I got the guitar to be really good actually. :D
@@patrickshannon4516 I would say that the difference in the sound compared to an expensive Gibson with an EMG is minimal, but.. the overall feel on a Gibson is way better compared to a Maestro, and build quality is way better on a Gibson also.. but soundvise, I did not hear very much of a difference.
I have the same model . Found it in near new condition. Put on Hipshot locking tuners , new pots , new tunable bridge & Tonerider Rebel P90 bridge pickup .
I recall someone in my circle of musical friends having one of these as a backup guitar at gigs, if my memory serves me it was a bit of a dog of a guitar, although it was set up correctly it didn't sound very good, I suspect some dodgy windings on the pickup or a fault in the wiring, every now and again the signal would go slightly low. For $70 you cant go wrong though, I am sure this will end up as a nice and well playable instrument.
Well, its not a great quality guitar. But it got the looks. I will do a deep dive in to it to get it as nice as I can. I have a feeling I can get it quite good 😊
Never heard of this maestro by Gibson guitars. If you're refinish it, have a look at the white les paul special by Billie Joe Armstrong (obviously without the P90)
Thanks for the tip! However I´m doing it (fake) mahogany on the back and fiesta red o the front with gold hardware. It´s a gamble but I hope it turns out good :)

I will re do mine as well. Upgrade it re finish it. I have a feeling it can be quite good. 🎸
@@TheworldofMattias Yeah it can be quite good, for the price.
Probably sounds as good as a Les Paul with that EMG active pickup u put in... EMG active pickups and Seymour Duncan are the best.

@@HearGear I would say that I just like EMG active pickups better because of the noise factor do not care for noisy pick ups...

Great! I´m upgrading mine as well. Video in the making :)
perfect punk rock machine.
Yes, simple and effective, just like punk!

Can you still get them new in Finland?

I have an old Maestro by Gibson acoustic parlor guitar. It plays like butter.
I never tried the acoustic version but if it is at all as good as the electric I bet it plays as butter!
@@TheworldofMattias I completely suggest that you do!
A lick 'o paint here, a lick 'o paint there, a few pots, etc. and she'll be right.
She´s on the way! It will be a complete re-making (you know me by now). The video is on the way. I have high hopes for it. :)

funny you have to pay an extra 700$ more just for an "open-book" headstock on a an Epiphone but the Maestro it's free of charge!
Yea, its quite strange..?
They are basic but they aren't bad they are worth 150-200$ but they can get you by good for the beginner at an affordable price.
They are surprisingly good, I must say!
