اکبر بادشاہ نے لاہور میں کئی مرتبہ قیام کیا تھا اور لاہور کو اپنے دور حکومت میں ایک اہم مقام دیا تھا۔ اس نے 1584ء سے 1598ء تک اپنے دارالحکومت کو دہلی سے لاہور منتقل کیا تھا۔ اس عرصے میں لاہور مغل سلطنت کا دارالحکومت رہا اور اکبر بادشاہ نے لاہور کے قلعے کو مضبوط کیا اور شہر کی تعمیر و ترقی پر خصوصی توجہ دی۔ تاہم، اکبر بادشاہ کا مستقل قیام لاہور میں نہیں تھا بلکہ وہ مختلف مقامات پر رہائش پذیر رہا کرتا تھا، جیسے کہ آگرہ اور دہلی۔
