Thanks for an excellent tour. Nadia Begum was very beautiful princess, very devoted to her husband Dara Shikoh and was his cousin also. She stayed with her husband through thick and thin and suffered from dysentery and other malnutrition because Dara kept running from one place to other under continuous fear from Aurangzeb who wanted to kill him to get to the throne. Dara Shikoh wanted to seek asylum to Iran like Humayon, but was trapped and forced to stay at the house of Malik Geevan who was an Afghan/Baluch tribe and in fact was saved from Shah Jehan at the intervention of Dara Shikoh. It is a long story. However, Nadra died in great pain and sufferings. Her dead body was sent to Lahore. It is whimsical to say that this tomb was built by Aurangzeb who wanted to kill this family in the first place. Ironically, Aurangzeb’s son was married with Nadia’s daughter. It is true that she loved Hazrat Mian Mir including Dara Shikoh. One final note people of Lahore loved Dara Shikoh very much, and belovedly called him Shaha Dara and named a city close to Lahore which later became Shahdra. More later. This was a rebel lady whose husband ideally should have been a Mughal king but was mercilessly killed by Aurangzeb. Dara Shikoh was a great scholar of Islam and wrote few books as well. In fact, he was very knowledgeable about Hindu faith too and tried to bring the Islamic communities closer so that the hatred be removed. Also, perhaps the only Muslim scholar who really tried to learnt Hindus and their religion, the main religion of India instead of hating it outright like many Muslim scholars of that time. he tried to bring a bridle between Hinduism and Islam and conclude Akbar’s dream of an Indian federation of dig\different religions and nationalities. Had that been achieved, the Britishers would have never conquered India.
