Cousin Matt has a great personality and from the first 10 seconds I knew I was in for a good one. Not only engaging conversation but also very humorous. It’s so cool when people embrace new technology and have an open mind even though they were used and born in a time when things were different. Not trying to say Matt is old I assume he’s in his 40s but still lol. Matt hit many bullet points as well as very fair criticisms. I agree I tried the free trial of FSD and basically just kept it off most of the time. Doesn’t drive smooth at all. Either too fast or too slow or too indecisive. Service is trash right now but hopefully third parties are more well established by the time my warranty expires around 2031 for me at least. I do expect to get a couple 100s of 1000s of miles out of my battery but I HOPE battery prices drastically fall within the next decade. Also Drew you make a really good point about comparing the cost of buying an ev with little maintenance and buying a gas car that will certainly needs lots of maintenance over its lifespan. Sure if I buy an ev I might not break even but Im so happy that I don’t have to worry about oil changes, transmission oil, brakes, gas pump, gaskets, timing belts…… I just want me car to work

23:50 I agree. When I told my friend about the Aptera last year, he was like “30k? Isn’t that a bit pricey?” And I was like “Bro, this thing would STILL sell like hotcakes at 60k.”. I mean with all of the pros it has and the fact that there’s no alternatives, it would still be a worthy price in a niche-er market. Now do I have 60k? No. But this is literally my DREAM vehicle. If I had to keep a Lamborghini or Bugatti for life or an Aptera, I’m choosing the Aptera every single time. (If I could sell the Lambo, I would just buy an Aptera and keep the change lol).

If you go back to Aptera’s 12/21 update and listen to the Anthony promise of “deliveries late next year”, and look at how little they’ve done to actually reduce the concept to a viable production vehicle, you just might get that it’s never going to happen. They’ve taken none of the steps on behalf of the investors or reservation holders. Just a question of when people move on.

I think that Aptera should do what they need to to keep the price under $35K for at least the first 1,000 EVs built. Even if it means that it will extend the time to the break even point. I think that Aptera has been smart in adapting to a simpler design to get into production sooner. Ultimately the production Aptera will have to compete on its own merits in 2025. Super efficiency, solar power assist, and unique styling can attract some people who will pay more, but the greatest selling tool will be the Aptera itself. Out in the world, and on public roads. And part of the perception of the Aptera's relative value will be set by its introductory price.

  • @ematejowsky
    @ematejowsky 12 дней назад

It was literally depressing to watch the range reducing month by month. I traded it in on an GWM Ora (aus.) which is a great car for the price. A PHEV with LFP may be more viable. A PHEV with a large battery and tiny ICE extender makes sense to me - particularly if the ICE part was removable. My PHEV had dual wet clutches and the other complexities of a parallel/series hybrid but under 70K it always uses electric traction.

Was a 28K$ toy I wanted but don’t need. At 40K$ I can find something way better to play with. Lets not forget its still not available, no clue what the real world tests will be on this toy. The market for a 3 wheeled toy is very limited, a few Aptera crazy’s will pay whatever is required. If the price is too high “over 35K” this will be a short lived company. First, thanks for the subject of EP. 188. You have the best Aptera content out there but I will not invest the time to do the whole podcast (too long for this one question). The answer to the undervalued ? is probably , yes, for some people. For others of us, maybe it isn't undervalued. I live in the EU & see very high car prices, taxes, and fuel cost, much less the many questions on homologation. I am by the way still planning to travel to CA in 2025, drive my Aptera back to the east coast and ship ( her ) back to Denmark, and yes, she already has a name. The value question may truly be personal but I bet you can guess my opinion!!!

No. If their patents had any actual value they could have done what many start ups do which is move them to a third party to obtain a loan against them, that is the standard method to exploit IP and protect those putting up the money. The only two companies which they showed any use of their products will add no meaningful value to their bottom line in the short term if ever. A company producing nothing has no value and they are well over 200m in the hole.

It boils down to expectations. Some early reservation holders, myself included, cannot afford most EVs. We saw Aptera as a way to finally get into this space affordably and with a super efficient vehicle. I know Teslas have come down in price, but I was holding out for the Aptera because I believe in the company ethos. I agree that it can command more, but I will be disappointed if I am no longer able to afford it. I will always be a fan, I just don't know if I will be a buyer. It depends on where the price actually lands.

The unique Aptera is so different, and still unknown to maybe 85% of the world. Once the production begins personally, my estimation is that the order book will be unable to keep up with the demand for a few years. Even if we have a contraction for the overall economic situation, then those who are looking for a new vehicle can look at Aptera for being lower cost to operate. Those who question how to move forward can foresee a place for the Aptera, not just for efficiency, but overall cost of ownership, and how unusual the design is because of that. Prius sold very few in the beginning because many did not think it could actually get the kind of milage that it does. Prius are somewhat ugly shoeboxes driving down the road, (I have owned two of them) the newest one has much better styling and improvement of the drag is a part of that, however Aptera pole vaults way past the standard of the milage champ, which is currently the Prius, or Ionic 5/6. But saying it is different is a huge understatement, Aptera is in a class of its own, creating an entire new category. My head says, Tesla started it, and it was revolutionary at the time, however Aptera is another evolution in the EV space, well beyond Tesla. Not dishing Tesla but cheering on Aptera is my stance here. Yes, I am an Accelerator somewhere around 150 on the leaderboard, but at 75 years old, I am running out of time to pick it up. This new development in transportation is extremely exciting, and it needs to happen.

As I’ve said before, going with a modular central drivetrain for front makes more sense for packaging and efficiency sake. I love the idea of a single in-wheel motor for the rear when it is ready. I just hope it is retrofitable to the 2WD Launch Edition vehicles. On the price, I never felt it was underpriced. It was always pushed as a grassroots, everyman car for the conscious modest consumer, not a luxury 2-seater sports car. As a matter fact, many of us thought to reserve Apterae with the idea to buy them as 1st and potentially only vehicles for our teenage kids. Thinking of them as expensive luxury items was never the ethos. Also, I strongly disagree with the comment that efficiency is expensive. This is the traditional ICE or Luxury EV mindset talking. A truly Efficiency-driven ethos also includes more value for less $, and Chris and Steve have always appealed to the masses, not just the privileged. If they raise the price, it better be because kf increased initial costs, which I can understand. But if it is solely profit driven, I would be greatly disappointed. That was never the original intent. Leave that to the markets to determine. That being said, I still believe in the founders and trust their intentions. Nothing they’ve said has deterred me from that. I don’t think I’ll ever own a Tesla, but an Aptera? i think is what every EV should aspire to be.

WAYYYY less than 85%. I’d say more like 99.90% in the world and like 98% for the U.S.

Steve Fambro, in the first episode of Aptera's podcast, heavily implies that Aptera made the decision to step away from Elaphe and not the other way around. He talks about the mountain of firmware they have yet to write as production approaches, and I think they decided on the drive-train change to reduce that work load. Three motors and three inverters involve much more complicated traction control and torque vectoring than one motor and inverter do, and this really reduces the amount of firmware needed in the short term. Steve never implies that Elaphe is not ready for them.

Yes, Aptera made the decision to step away from Elaphe because they could not meet delivery timelines with that drive train. Aptera switched to a drive train that they feel can keep them on track to deliver vehicles in the first half of next year. The Elaphe drive train would require much more engineering and validation which would delay initial delivery of vehicles and would put the company at risk of never delivering vehicles.

@@wineberryred Yes, I think we are saying the same thing. For clarification, it is Aptera who may not be able to meet timelines using Elaphe's motors, not that Elaphe was not able to meet Aptera's demand.

I think many see over an hour for the podcast, and just avoid spending that amount of time.

Especially when so much of the time is spent off the title topic that brought me here.

We talk about a range of topics like most podcasts and put 1 of them in the thumbnail and title cause you can’t put 10 different subjects together in 1 thumbnail. This is the best way to do longer format content imo

A playback speed of 1.5, some edibles, and it's over in a flash.

Yeah everyone sounds so upset about the rumored price increase for Aptera but that is exactly where I expected it to be with inflation this long after saying the original price. Sure not having AWD is disappointing, but good snow tires are more important. And as long as it is still getting 8mi\kw or better I am still super excited and totally fine with the price increase. Lol besides, I'm far enough back in the order line that I will probably have the time needed to save up more for the new price 😅

Never got first comment before but I’ll just use it to appreciate what you are doing for ev’s, especially the startups that are trying to do something really new in the auto industry. From aptera with max aerodynamic efficiency and solar to Telo with max volumetric efficiency. Truly appreciate the coverage!
