I took years to finish the game, more because of the intense farming requirements and similar stuff (and also because I locked progression with Bruce that delayed some upgrades); but, even then, when I finally finished it this year it just broke me. Atul had remained in the ship with me since I started the game back in 2021, and how he left was painfully similar to how a family friend left us when I was a teenager; Jackie hit very close to home, with his worries and internal conflicts; Stanley's childish worries just destroyed me, and Gustav's leaving after such a long time, with those hugs he gave me, felt like watching that cool professor you had go away. It's a very kind game, which can make you cry a lot, but never because it's trying to hurt or cheaply tear-jerk you: instead, it speaks from the heart, and that's why it hits so hard. lovely video and analysis!! - have you seen solar sand's video about the sublime? it's an excellent (much longer) watch. you demonstrated a high level of proficiency in this area here that really lines up with what was said there. - i was BLOWN AWAY by the primitive technology connection- i'm a long time lover of his work, and it seems to be having a huge influence on a lot of new art/media. i still remember my jaw dropping when i saw it referenced in an episode of rick and morty for the "perfect level" bit. john plant's editing style really seems to hit something deep and comforting for folks. - something that came up from me initially that was resolved by the end of your essay was the difference between the "sublime" and the"Eldritch". they're really similar, but there is a useful distinction between them that I feel justifies, keeping both in my vocabulary. i want to say more about the show and some of the ideas it stirred in me- thinking about alienation, what it means to be alien, and why "alien" sci-fi has gained such traction in the last half-decade or so- but I think I'll save that for a video of my own instead of trying to fit it all in here lol. a couple of final recs for the road: - 8 million species of aliens (YT video, exurbia) - an unkindness of ghosts (novel, rivers solomon) thanks again for making this 💜💜💜💜

Thank you so much for this :D I got into Steven Universe in February this year and it is such a great show^^ I love how it is so creative and sometimes even handling such dark topics. Something i’ve noticed, is that the first time we ever see White diamond in ‘legs from here to homeworld’, she has pencil-like line art, as well as an off center coloring. This implies a sense of an inhuman and distant prescence, and also a sense of that she has not left or moved from her head or even homeworld.

I absolutely loved in the anime when kirishima fights rappa. Dude feels like he is failing then he digs himself back out and strengthens his resolve and continues on. Especially when fat gum even admits to underestimating him and that he’s proud of him

What baffles me is they made male byleth canon even tho female looks way better and fits 3 houses better thematically being the sothis successor.

I’ve seen one other movie from this studio and that was Song of the sea and that’s one of my favorite animated movies.

I started this game back in December of 2022 after seeing Discord's official channel post a video about it. The game looked interesting, but at the time, I didn't know the meaning behind it, until I had sent Gwen through the Everdoor. I slowly realized what this game's deeper meaning was, and let me tell you, it was extremely impactful to me, in a fantastic way. It was the only game I could play for the longest time. I unfortunately took a break for awhile and only recently started playing again. This game really has changed me and how I view a lot of thing about life, and life as a whole. And I just wanted to say thank you for making this amazing video <3.

Before I watched toh for this first time this year, Lumity was the aspect I heard most about and I never understood the hype around it. Then I decided to watch the show for myself a few weeks back and after finishing it, yeah I can definitely see why ppl hype the ship as much as they do and the more I think about it, the better it is. Definitely one of my favorite ships of all time now.

Man, i really hope Netflix greenlits more seasons of this show. It is truly the best animated Sci-Fi series in years! I so adore it! Also, great video essay, pal. 😁👍

Your passion shines through during every single minute, and it's honestly rare for me to sit down and watch essays like this, but it's just so refreshing to see an absurdly insightful, genuinely well-written analysis on this show. I love your editing style and I know you probably hear this a lot but damn your channel is underrated lol. I am not the biggest Steven Universe fan in the world, but the audiovisual design of the series always stuck out to me, and getting to see someone take a passionate deep dive into the beautiful complexity of the show's aesthetics was such a treat. I was shocked that Disney did this when they kissed I cheered I'm a straight white guy in my 40's I'm really outside the whole dating thing I have never had an relationship. But I have always felt Love is love as long as the other person feels the same it's not my concern,I swear I had no Idea how great this show is and Lux and Amity it one big reason I love it. Right now my country is in a bad place well soon find out if were turning a corner or driving off the cliff I fear for the people not in the "norm" I say that as they do.

Man, the dynamic and rivalry between these 2 characters has always been one of my favorites in fiction since I first watched MHA 1st season back in 2017. Seeing how their relationship has grown and become more complex was a joy to watch, and when Deku and Bakugo finally started to work together, especially in Heroes Rising against Nine, damn it was such a massive payoff. This show is juat a masterclass in writing and characters.
