I think one thing that's particularly funny about Amphibia is the facial expressions (especially from Hop Pop). The overly exaggerated and somewhat unpleasant reaction faces that they have juxtaposes the normal and simple art style of the show and it's just hilairious.
For me, the funniest moment in the entire show would have to be Anne's crazy laugh followed by "...I don't feel safe." I can't describe why it works so well, it just does.
That moment is ICONIC. What makes it for me is Bill Farmer's delivery of the line. It's not quite deadpan, but it's just...plain, matter-of-fact. He does it a lot--other examples that crack me up include: the bit after his body has been soaked in chlorine ("oh no, my skin is burnin') and the bit after Grime's volcano cake destroys the house ("where are we gonna live?"). He sounds so chipper and unphased
I love how you can see how much Work is in this Video it is really enjoyable and Relaxing to watch the dissection of such an amazing Shows Humor in such Detail 10/10 would recommend and watch again
I think this video has actually helped me to understand a lot about why I often don’t find Amphibia’s humor to be funny. “The incongruity where we don’t even know if we’re supposed to be laughing or not,” often leaves me personally on the side of not laughing. The fact that I’m uncertain if it should be funny makes me feel some sense of unease or minor confusion, and I’m annoyed with the show for instilling it in me. You also mention that the breakneck pacing of jokes make clips prime for Out Of Context videos, and I certainly agree, and even think that some of the jokes I didn’t think were funny in the show ARE funny in an Out Of Context video. And it might be because I think that Amphibia’s jokes can too often interrupt the pacing of the story, creating a tonal whiplash that once again leaves me flustered or annoyed rather than laughing. I feel like the first few minutes of this video are so well-written about the concept of comedy that they could actually be lifted and placed into the introduction about why Amphibia’s humor doesn’t work. I love the ideas you have on display, even if I ultimately don’t come away with the same conclusion of what is humorous that you do. Great video!

my favourite genre of Hop Pop comedy is when he'll say something alarming, but in a totally normal way. Like when he says "oh no, my skin is BURNIN"
