Some of the critical comments on single notes and tempo choices made by people who are evidently not professional musicians make me drop my balls so hard that it stimulates me to stop playing music and actively contribute to a collective human extinction plan. Jamais vu Messiaen aussi sérieux. Lui qui en temps normal est si joyeux et jovial. J'imagine qu'il y a une signification derrière tout cela.
Shostakovich's first prelude wasn't written in 1933. He wrote it until 1920 because we read in Fay's book that he was playing this prelude already in 1920. Probably in 1933 he catalogued it as "no.1"
Argerich is still as good or even better as when she was in her 20s

It resolves in E major, so I'd rather say that it's in E.

Interesting...........I actually like some parts of the dramatic middle section better than the version we all know but find the ending surprisingly weak and frankly unpianistic. It isn't as structurally taut as the other version but somehow it seems to fit the actual text of the poem better at least from that perspective. Definitely deserves study however I see why he revised it not so much to make it "easier" but mostly to strengthen the structure of the piece which in its revised form is almost perfection in its imperfection . I wish I could hear Howard's take on this version.
What a synchronicity - bells ringing right as the last note of the piece is played. Amazing.

They can play the music in perfectly coordinated rhythm, but the bowing......that's a different story lol
