I think Dead Domain is pretty good for thoughtful, progressive content on games and gaming culture. They do quite a lot on general political stuff, but as an active gaming streamer they have definitely done some good work on this topic, I'd definitely recommend checking out their work.

I have no problem with you criticising Farage and Reform - particularly as it relates to Brexit. Brexit was a right wing elite fraud; a big bonfire of EU red tape in service to corporate profit, sold to the working class as necessary to reduce immigration and regain national sovereignty. That was a lie; it did no such thing. Brexit was intended to undermine wages, workers rights, unions, tax regulations, environmental protections, consumer protections, animal welfare, climate change agreements... enshrined in EU law. It was never about reducing immigration or securing UK sovereignty. However, regardless, the brexit fraud does not traduce the capitalist economic system; the only form of political economy that's ever worked a damn. Further, it was Labour's abandonment of ordinary working people; playing at neo-marxist, politically correct identity politics, while Thatcher's children sold off everything; that created the demographic that were susceptible to the siren song of brexiteers. Even though that working class demographic were utterly exploited, deceived and betrayed by right wing elite brexiteers, Labour should have been defending ordinary working people relative to capital - the traditional proletariat v. bourgeoisie Marxist dynamic - rather than policing thought and speech. And in that scenario; where the excesses of capitalist elites are contested in the democratic political arena on behalf of the working class, capitalism works quite well. Unless you have a better alternative? Although, the experience of history says that you don't.

Reform’s policy on ‘transgender ideology’ (which isn’t a thing) is just terrifying. Social transitioning and using new pronouns doesn’t harm anyone. Also my secondary school had some unisex bathrooms as well as single sex ones and guess what? It was fine. Does Reform not realise that disabled toilets are also unisex? What are they going to do, get rid of those in schools?

Thank you for covering this with such detail. I'd love to see a followup on this topic. This has been an increasing concern of mine ever since the beginning of the pandemic. I'm a private nanny. Where I used to see smart phones as a potential issue for attention spans/school focus etc., I now see them as extremely dangerous devices, with exponential detrimental effects that we are *nowhere* near understanding. Children I have personally looked after, particularly ages 7-12, have admitted to me that they have seen videos of explicit sexual content, videos of executions/deaths, that they've felt bullied by their friends on snapchat/instagram... I have overheard their friends repeating right-wing conspiracy theories, hailing the likes of Andrew Tate (at age 8!!!)... And the worst thing is that their parents are uninterested. They think, "well what am I going to do, not let them have a phone?" And these kids have no context to understand what they're seeing, either, like you said. So they just have this insane information entering their brains with no way to process it. They also can't do anything without their phones. Like the study you shared, but 100x worse. Eating dinner, scrolling; watching TV, scrolling; playing video games! scrolling! They have a meltdown if they hear their phone buzz and can't immediately stop what they're doing to go check it. It has made my job a living hell. I can only imagine what it's like for teachers of teens. I'd rather die than try to manage this but to the tune of 20-30 students, all day long. Wtf are we doing to ourselves and our children?? I actually have perhaps an aggressively radical opinion about this, that children should have zero access to smartphones. Literally a full ban. At least until we understand with some more certainty how to safeguard them from these issues.

They've started claiming that the methodology of the independent inquiry was flawed, even though the conclusion pointed to massive institutionalized failings. Now, they want another inquiry just to arrive at the same conclusion. Implementing the recommendations would ensure that children are protected, based on the conclusions of the inquiry.
