    At least the odious Jeremy Kyle Show was taken off air after a man commited suicide shortly after appearing on the programme. Love Island has had four suicides directly or indirectly associated with it, including its presenter, yet is somehow still being broadcast,as commercial and sponsorship considerations are deemed more important. TV was once heavily regulated to prevent such exploitative programming, but the 1990 Broadcasting Act and the abolition of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) the following year (preceded by the Independent Television Authority) opened the broadcasting floodgates, but for all the wrong reasons. Lowest common denominator programming such as Love Island proliferates everywhere now; as long as it makes a healthy financial profit, despite the manipulation of vulnerable individuals featured and possessing no kind of artistic quality or value, producers and programme makers alike care for virtually nothing as long as the money comes in.

  • @sunn1011
    @sunn1011 3 дня назад +2

    Oh, absolutely, Love Island is a beacon of moral clarity and a paragon of beauty standards. I mean, who wouldn’t want to spend their summer in a villa surrounded by perfect specimens of humanity, all genetically engineered to remind the rest of us that our bodies are basically just poorly designed sacks of disappointment? Truly inspiring stuff.
    Thank goodness for Love Island, right? It does an excellent job of reminding us that love is only for the thin, the tanned, and the conventionally attractive. Because, really, who wants to watch people with regular bodies fall in love? Gross! I’m sure the reason it’s never happened before is because no one in the real world has ever found happiness with a partner unless they’ve got a six-pack or a perfectly sculpted bum. That’s just science.
    And can we talk about the show’s casting? What a brilliant job they do! It’s so refreshing to see diversity-oh wait, sorry, I mean diversity in terms of bikini colours, not actual human diversity. But hey, who cares about things like body representation, racial equality, or LGBTQ+ inclusion? What matters is that we can sit at home and ogle a bunch of hyper-polished mannequins who look like they spend 23 hours a day at the gym and the other hour taking selfies.
    Of course, Love Island doesn’t just offer a visual feast of physical perfection; it also delivers deep, intellectual conversations. Who can forget those scintillating debates about, well, "What's your type?" Truly groundbreaking stuff. Watching these contestants navigate romance is like watching a Shakespearean drama unfold, except instead of "To be or not to be?" it’s more like "Do you even lift, bro?" or "Is my tan even?" It’s practically poetry.
    And let’s not forget the valuable life lessons Love Island imparts. Want to be loved? Easy-just starve yourself for six months, do 500 squats a day, and get a personal stylist to tell you what part of your body still isn’t good enough for television. But don't worry, the show is just helping us understand what really matters in life-attractiveness, superficiality, and, most importantly, Instagram followers. God forbid you find fulfilment in your intellect or personality. Where’s the fun in that?
    Then there's the mental health angle. Isn’t it just fantastic that a show like this gives people the chance to have their self-worth completely obliterated on a global scale? I mean, who needs therapy when you can get mocked by millions of strangers for not being "fit" enough? And the beauty of it all is that if things get too tough, don't worry-Love Island has already figured out how to provide "support.". Therapy sessions! I’m sure an hour of sitting in a chair after having your life blown up on national TV is more than enough to rebuild shattered confidence.
    So, hats off to Love Island for teaching us that the most important thing in life is to be as physically perfect as possible and that love is a competition where only the genetically gifted get to win. Because nothing says "healthy relationships" like public votes, tabloid coverage of every micro-argument, and constant scrutiny of every ounce of fat or wrinkle.
    Who needs real human connection when you can just swipe left on anyone who isn’t a flawless Ken or Barbie? Keep up the great work, Love Island. You're really showing the world how shallow we all ought to be.
    Great video, DrNewVeg4s!

      That is true, though the media did report on her relationships with Prince Harry before, and they weren't particularly pleasant to her then (they never were when dating royals).

    Incidentally, Patrick Kielty-who seems to have presented the 2005 show-now has the top job in Ireland, i.e. presenting the Late Late show. His wife, Cat Deely, I think is going to present This Morning, which show you often criticise.

      She's already on it. That is another thing I have only slightly touched upon, marriage and favours in the industry. I even think about Ed Balls on Good Morning Britain, giving softball interviews with his wife Yvette Cooper. Its all about who you know or are connected with.

    • @DrNewVegas
      @DrNewVegas  3 дня назад

      Thank you. That's very kind of you to say.
      I'm a very fast writer 😂 which sometimes comes back to bite me. Doing a PhD makes you write at 2x speed and read fast. I would say my quality is a bit average (though I'm critical of myself), but data is data and often speaks for itself.
      I'm a rubbish editor, but again fast. My hope one day (in the very distant future) that I can afford an editor and do better quality on it. Until then, go fast and work till I fall asleep.

    • @shawklan27
      @shawklan27 2 дня назад +1

      @DrNewVegas i dunno if I'll call you're editing style average at all especially compared to how crap I handle my own videos lol. Like the way you use your clips is done in a way that only helps support your points without coming across as super random and is really well paced. Do you edit on premier pro?

    • @DrNewVegas
      @DrNewVegas  День назад +1

      @@shawklan27 I think your editing is Fab (from the videos I've watched). Well, thank you. I used to use Pro but I switched to Davinci as I find it freezes less and is a bit more customisable. I also like the fact you can own it forever, not like the weird subscription service they have with Adobe (bit tired of them).

    • @shawklan27
      @shawklan27 День назад +1

      @DrNewVegas Thank you for the compliment. I appreciate it. davinci sounds like a great app as I only edit using inshot (I used to edit alot on my laptop but the thing's going through alot constant storage issues so I chose to edit on my phone.) I have Adobe myself, but I mainly use it for illustrator and Photoshop purposes. It's very convenient and resourceful, but man, just yesterday, I found out that they will increase the student monthly discount to £28.99 and that's WAAAYYYYYYY too much for they offer! Brother, you've got to make a vid on the cost of living crisis and how it's affecting people like us because shit it's absolutely brutal rn.
