    You have shared great tips for choosing and advancing in one's career, Kara! I found your channel while scrolling through RUclips a few days ago and I must say I am lucky to have found your channel as I'm about to start my corporate career soon. Often, I find people mentioning that you should be happy to accept whatever you're offered in your very first job and I find it difficult to be okay with that statement. Somehow I find all of this related to self-worth and it's not often talked about. I am so glad to have found your channel at the right time in my career. From today onwards, I decide to Advocate for myself and make the most of my experience!

    Great video !!! For the longest time the topic of money was a very difficult for me to negotiate with people..specially family and friends.. Since the last 10 years that has changed and now I love negotiating !!! always want a win/win deal !!! Anyone can become an entrepreneur.. if one can handle the heat !!! Entrepreneurship is a 24/7/365... I think most people should choose another route to happiness..less stressful ..cause I have met or read about a lot of founders who their mental health is in the gutter... As you well said ... happiness.. is doing something that energize you instead of draining you...that one can't wait to wake up in the morning and be ready to work as many hours possible on that work/passion that makes one happy !!! thank you Kara for sharing this very well made informative video !!!

    I totally agree that entrepreneurship isn't the only path to a happy successful life. In my opinion the best two options are either running your own business or working for a company that shares your vision and values and you actually love their products/services. For me now, the most important thing is that I get to make my own schedule and I have complete freedom over it. I can't imagine living without that.

      Same! I sometimes wonder if I could go back to a company. I think it’s possible but (if I have negotiating room) I would need a lot of autonomy in both getting my work done and deciding what to work on/direction.

    Do you negotiate on a regular? 🤔 Negotiation skills can start small, even just asking for an “extra shot of espresso” but eventually, you build yourself up to asking for a sign on bonus, double the equity or more vacation days to spend with your family.

    That's a very useful video! I like when you mentioned that it's not them against you, it's you and them collaborating for the best outcome. I'd appreciate it if you could also speak about "red flags" that everyone should pay attention to whether they're gonna work with a company or with clients. Also your dress is beautiful :)

    • @karaebelofficial
      @karaebelofficial 10 дней назад

      Glad to hear! And thanks :) A lot of the red flags will depend on your needs and preferences and then some relate to whether you're set up to "succeed" in the role. Here's what I mean: 1) Preferences/needs: financial, work security, leadership, team, environment/work space/commute, development... It's important to figure out where you fall on the scale and then, based on that, you can figure out most "red flags." For example: if you ask a future colleague if they can describe a recent large project they worked on at the company and tell you about what the day-to-day on that project looked like + what were their responsibilities, and they tell you that the project was interesting, it was very fast-paced and had to be done within a week, there were a number of late nights but it was cool to see how everything came together. - this could be a "red flag" for you if you're not keen to do such quick-turn around projects. I had a client who's really into quick projects (vs. long term ones). So for them, a red flag would be doing the same project all year long. 2) Performance red flags: These are the red flags where you're not being "set up" to do a good job in the future. For example, if your role description is ambiguous or the company "doesn't yet know what you'll do exactly (but needs a person), this could be tricky. Why? Because if you don't set specific performance metrics and agree on them, how will they evaluate if you did a good job? It's helpful to have that conversation early on. Similarly, if your future boss is a micromanager and you don't work well under that type of leadership. Or there is no overlap between you and the person who had the role before you - this could be fine but it could also mean that there's no one to train you properly. Basically think about "wh?at will I need to succeed in this role" and "is the company setting me up to get those things?"

      @@karaebelofficial Thank you very much for this detailed answer. You're right! It'd depend on the person and the situation. I recently had a company reach out to me offering to work with me on a project and they gave a very vague description of the job and the amount they offered was too good to be true. I asked them to give me more details multiple times and they just kept repeating the same vague description. That felt really suspicious to me and I ended up declining the offer. Your content is very useful! I appreciate your advice :)

    This is as always is a great video ! (Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat) this is what John Wick's back tattoo says ...and it roughly translate to..Fortune Favors The Brave ... this video made me think about this character..(John Wick played by Keanu Reeves. ) we all have fears but when we face the fear.. it disappears and always lead to the Light !!! One hard lesson for me I learned is to don't do things to impress others.. do things that brings me joy and make my heart tickle !!! I totally agree about the subject of love... sharing values...,dreams ,etc... is the recipe for longevity in any relationship....when people have different values, dreams ,etc... usually don't last ..or they live together in misery... finding the one is very hard..yet if one focus on personal growth..usually that one special person will come easily without any pressure... keep up the great work Kara !!!

    Hey your videos are really helpful! I just graduated law school and am thinking taking more risks travelling & exploring entrepreneurial ventures but have this fear it'll set me behind in my legal career and life in general and that the otherside may not be worth it in the end. How do you navigate the the internal conflict between security and something that you are longing for. Thank you!

    • @karaebelofficial
      @karaebelofficial Месяц назад

      Glad to hear it! The way to navigate these questions is often to get very specific. Have you had a chance to define what it is that you're specifically longing for? When it comes to fears, it's also helpful to get specific. Saying this is "going to put me back" in my career is very vague, which tends to trigger more fears in us. You could instead ask yourself, "how is this going to put me back in my career?" And "do I care?" As a general rule of thumb, it is easier to explore when you're younger because you have less responsibilities. But you're saying you've just graduated law school so it's an interesting time to want to explore. Why now? What directions would you like to explore? Are they law-related or not at all? Let me know. Maybe we can make some more sense of it :)

    This video is absolutely great !!!! for many reasons ... 1. Loved how candid you are about the transition from lawyer to entrepreneur ... you even mentioned the financial data from your previous job as a lawyer then your current earnings... 2. Your coolness about the process/journey you are going through and what others can expect if they decide go on a similar journey of starting all over again in a different field...3. The fact you mentioned identity attached to a previous job !!! so true...someone told me a long while ago about social networking..about how almost every person within a couple of minutes in a chat with another person asks what the person do for a living.. the fellow then told me to get to the real identity of the person is to ask instead what do they do for fun ? what hobbies do they have ? what are their passions ? then one can see the other person opening up about their true selves !!! To me life is an adventure ..like an Indiana Jones film ! so is vital to do research, get and study the data, have a plan or strategy and then execute with all of ones might !!! Thank You for sharing content that is valuable and inspiring ...keep up the great work !!!

I have started doing pomodoros though, and that's been helping me challenge this idea and think of the things I do in smaller chunks. If I could, I would carve out entire weeks to edit videos, run around with the camera, etc. But I've found the forcing function of "okay, I need to just make the most of this small window of time" to be very helpful. It pushes me to be even more creative, often. It's definitely exciting to at least set things up and then think about what you'll get to paint :) glad this video resonated with you.

    Thank you for making this video, I find myself constantly disappointed in myself for not being creative all the time as a graphic designer. The way you explained it makes so much more sense... to savor the Creative process, not just the end product. Subscribed, can't wait to see more videos!

      I’m glad to hear this gave you a bit of perspective! The mental switch from focusing on the process as opposed to the “destination”/result was a game changer for me. If you can do a little more of the “processes” that you enjoy, it could help in the day to day a lot. Which parts of the graphics design tasks are usually fun for you?

    This is very cool. However, I’m so out of touch with creativity… I have nothing to spend a coffee break on

      Haha, I see. Maybe the coffee break should just be spent on coffee then :) It just depends on whether you want to be "back in touch" even a little bit or not. Thanks for watching the video anyways, appreciate it!

    Great video for many reasons !!!! the topic of creativity is something very close to my heart ! To me is like you said..is a muscle..not a mindset..the more one exercise it the better it gets... Ive been playing drums for a long time .. 43 years...piano have been my way of writing songs(melody-harmony, etc...) but a few months ago I bought a guitar and a bass... which I play about everyday !!! consistency is the name of then game...and now I'm using those 2 instruments as tools for my writing ! Great analogy about the coffee break... Usually I play guitar and bass for just 5-10 minutes..sometimes twice a day... Before as any novice I was very clumsy with my fingers ..now feels so much better !!! Your video looks great and sounds great ! plus the editing is direct and to the point ! Very well done Kara !!!!

      Thank you JJ! Wow, way to practice even for a small amount of time a day. You're inspiring me to sing a little more. I haven't really done it in months and it takes nothing to do it for 5 minutes. Bass is such a cool instrument and guitar definitely too. Very impressive that you pick up instruments and just figure it out. That's an awesome thing to do. I have someone in my family like this and he sometimes find such niche, random instruments that I haven't even heard about haha. It's so nice to see. Keep it up!
