    Thanks so much for this video! A lot of what you said I found really relatable, and being reminded of not engaging with the thoughts and with not feeding it, and just continuing on with your day, even if the OCD says something is really important, was nice to hear from you. Taking a leap of faith! And being okay with not knowing. And I just got a therapist that knows how to do ERP and that's been really helpful!

    How do you just sit with a thought?

    • @stuckinthemudofficial
      @stuckinthemudofficial 3 дня назад

      @@MandyDutton-d6q Hi, it’s all about building tolerance to a thought, urge, image, feeling etc. We can be aware of it, we know it’s there but we don’t engage with it. So for example OCD might say in your head, “But what if you did this, you’re a terrible person!” The reaction from us might be to question & analyse the thought so we ruminate trying to come to some kind of certainty that we’re not a ‘bad’ person. The problem is we often realise rationally this is not true but the doubt makes it hard to stop, so we can think of the intrusive thought as a toddler having a tantrum but we don’t give in to their demands & eventually it will pass. This is just the same with OCD when it realises we’re not engaging with it we’re letting it sit there it will calm down & fade away on its own. We often gain more clarity over the situation once these thoughts pass as we’re not in such a high state of anxiety. I look back & can see how irrational it is now but it was so hard when I was engaging with it as it creates more confusion. Just remember as least involvement as possible with the thought, urge, image, sensation, feeling, compulsion & it will dissolve on its own. You may even feel some guilt & more anxiety initially for not giving OCD the attention it wants but that soon gets better with practice. Our brain will self regulate once it realises this is not important & doesn’t need to cling on to it. Starving the monster that is OCD is the answer, you’ve got this! 🙌 I wish you all the very best, Kirsty. 😊❤️ Xx

      @@MandyDutton-d6q Hi thanks for watching I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this. 😞 I’ve been right where you are now, I’ve also been through the same types of OCD & it really did take over my life for some time. The reason this is so bad for you is that you are the complete opposite of any of these intrusive obsessive thoughts, they do not define who you are. OCD will target what you value the most in life & being the sensitive kind of people we are it will find the worst possible scenarios to torture us with but it’s all lies. I hope my videos are helping you to see that recovery is possible, you can & will get better from this. The more we involve ourselves with OCD the bigger it gets so the compulsions in your case seem like the religious rituals you may engage in excessively. Our brain reacts to the fact we’re in a state of emergency trying to neutralise these unwanted intrusive thoughts so holds on to them longer as they seem important. When if we can leave these kind of thoughts/urges alone the brain realises they’re not important & they dissolve on their own. It takes practice & more than anything please be kind to yourself as this is tough to go through on a daily basis. Much love Kirsty! 😊❤️🫶

      @stuckinthemudofficial 5 дней назад

      @@x.0.x. Hi I would say to see OCD as a child having a tantrum, it will pushback & keep going but the best thing we can do is let the child or OCD in this case carry on in the background of your mind with as least involvement as possible. As a child would realise it’s not getting the attention it wants it would then calm down as will the intrusive thoughts & urges to do compulsions/rituals. It takes practice but does get easier the more we build a tolerance to the uncomfortable intrusive thoughts & feelings that accompany them. I hope this helps, I also mention other methods in my videos, like postponing rumination & rituals. All the best, Kirsty. 😊

    • @stuckinthemudofficial
      @stuckinthemudofficial 8 дней назад

      Hey, I do believe it helped me but I don’t think it’s dependent on this for recovery, I actually think I made a video on this. OCD is deep rooted fear & someone actually said to me recently that OCD is the love we are for ourselves expressing itself as fear trying to keep us safe. My fears were very much around loss & death so coming to a level of acceptance around the uncertainty of this has been helpful in moving forwards. However the work I do with meta cognitive therapy & detached mindfulness doesn’t require you to work on these root issues at all & is still super effective. I hope this answers your question, wishing you all the best Kirsty. 😊

      @@thecineman3320 Hey I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through a rough time with this. 😞OCD can really take you to some desperate places I know I’ve been there, but please know it CAN & WILL get better. I don’t know specifically what you’re dealing with right now but if OCD intrusive thoughts are really getting to you, do your best to let them be there with as least involvement as possible. I know this isn’t easy at first but they can’t continue without our attention, we shouldn’t try to get rid of them or make them stop as this just makes them grow stronger. Above all of this please be kind to yourself as this stuff is tough to deal with on a daily basis. Take some deep breaths (in through nose & out through mouth) if you feel like your nervous system is overstimulated as it’s hard to do this work when we’re in panic mode & our anxiety is high. Take it in small steps & celebrate those small wins, like when we resist that compulsion or don’t follow an intrusive thought or ask for reassurance. You will get there believe me, you’ve got this! 🙌 I’m hoping to start some one to one coaching sessions soon, so please look out for those. I wish you all the very best, Kirsty. 😊❤️🫶

    Thanks for your videos. Do you think it’s possible to overcome ocd of you do erp but still ruminate? I’m mostly ruminating on not being able to overcome this

    • @stuckinthemudofficial
      @stuckinthemudofficial 10 дней назад

      You’re so welcome thanks for watching, the problem is when still engaging in rumination we’re engaging with OCD. We can be doing lots of exposure therapy but if we’re still engaging in rituals (rumination is also a ritual) we’re still feeding the doubt & OCD cycle. It’s great that you have the awareness to know that you’re doing this which gives you a fantastic opportunity to actually overcome this with a few tweaks. When you become aware you’re engaging with questions & intrusive thoughts around your OCD let them sit there unanswered with as least involvement as possible & move forward with your day. It takes practice but really does work, every time you notice it popping up again be as passive with it as you can for example ‘Ok thanks for that OCD but I’m not answering that’ or ‘Nice try OCD but you’re not gonna get my attention today’. OCD will try to push back with more intrusive thoughts but we repeat again & move forward, it will calm down when it realises you’re not giving in to its demands. You will then notice these kind of the thoughts decreasing in quantity & frequency. This is how we get better from this, we might feel some heightened anxiety initially when we’re not doing as OCD wants but that will also settle. I really hope this helps I explain much more about this in my other video’s. Wishing you all the very best, Kirsty. 😊🫶

    Thank you for your helpful advice. I suffer with harm OCD and have done for over 30 years. To help myself when I had an intrusive thought I started to suspend compulsions such as checking and more importantly rumination, first for 15mins then for 30mins and so on and it helped. For the last month I have been concentrating solely on reducing rumination which is very, very hard to do and requires a lot of courage as well, but I’m slowly getting there. Because OCD feeds off rumination and can’t survive without it, I hope sometime in the future to live a life free from OCD. As I said, it’s not easy to not ruminate when the thoughts and feelings are so frightening but I remind myself to do so will eventually lead to freedom which is much better than living a life of fear without end.

I cover everything I learnt in therapy & feel it should be available to everyone. Thanks for watching my video, wishing you all the best! Kirsty 😊

    You and your videos have been a godsend to me. I have always had anxiety and ocd but had it under control but once i started perimenopause a month ago the "bad" intrusive thoughts started happening, and my anxiety turned to panic disorder. I felt i was losing my mind! I was apffraid to admit to anyone what i was dealing with as i thought they would lock me up for being crazy!You have help so much and now i am currently reaching out to my PCP to get help along with trying to find the correct therapist to help. Thank you so much! You are so brave for sharing this and helping others!❤

      @@devinbuckley8407 Hi thank you so much for your kind words. 😊 I’m sorry to hear you’ve gone through a similar experience too, it would seem that this stage of life can make us more susceptible to mental health conditions especially when we have also experienced these in the past. I now like to see it as an opportunity to address these issues that maybe I hadn’t fully recovered from in the past. Panic disorder can be debilitating I’ve been there but things can & will get better. I’m so glad to hear you’ve reached out for support, I wish you all the best! Much love Kirsty. 😊❤️🫶

    Great vid! And its all true, OCD will keep you in a place where it will feel impossible to come back from. And when we are in that place we yearn to go back to the past but we cant shake off the strong grip, the lies but it is possible to break cycles.

      @@kirksART Most definitely, I really hope my videos are proving to OCD sufferers that you can get better from this, it doesn’t have to be a life sentence. It’s horrible to feel so stuck but you can break free when using the methods I explain in my videos! Thanks for watching & wishing you all the very best, Kirsty. 😊

      @@stuckinthemudofficial your vids are great, they get to the core of what needs to be said and understood about specific manifestations. Its always important to make the "distinction" of what is what within the workings of the disorder and what it can manifest. Many say well "its all OCD" of course it is, but I and I am sure many others feel that different themes of OCD throw up different challenges, and to focus on those challenges is important no matter how deep they go, and videos that convey the reality of "depth" are always a great formula in helping people understand their own personal OCD. After all OCD morphs, themes Change things get harder for some and watching a video that connects well is brilliant. Well done to you and your content. Education and connection is a valuable tool in fighting this wrecking ball of a disorder.

    Thank you for making these videos. I just found you today. I’ve been following the law of attraction/manifesting since I saw the secret in 2005. It’s a bunch of hogwash unless as you said you’re taking action to achieve what you want. I also thought I created bad situations with my thoughts. Finally someone addressing this very important topic in depth.
