Just replaced the batteries (again). What a PITA. BAD design, unreliable. Mine is going into the trash today. I've had it for years, but I'm NOT willing to risk my life on a gun safe that may or may not open when I need it. Nope. I'm done.

Just received my Mini Vault. To put a 9vt battery in there is next to impossible. Now I'm wondering if the clip came broken. I went online and looked at the video, it shows that it just snaps easily in. Well, it doesn't.

...cont...after trying, using a mirror, etc... I had to Gorilla tape it into the clip. Just a terrible design, the rest of the Vault and it's functions are fine.👍

For anyone struggling to find the 9V battery: The older version has a plastic casette containing 8 AA batteries that is screwed to the top of the safe with two nuts on either side of the casette. Unscrew the nuts and the casette will drop free and you can replace the batteries.

Truly finicky safe. Not exactly what I want for a quick access gun safe... I have had it for years and do not access it daily. A few days ago I did, or I should say I tried and it would make a little failed click sound and the door would not drop. I kept trying while timing pushing on the door and I finally got it to open. I added a little dry lubricant to the locking mechanism and worked that back and forth using the key, but it still would do the small click sound and fail to open the door. I decided it had to be an electrical power issue. So, I took out the 8 AA batteries and tested them and they were still in excellent charge shape. Put them back in and that lost my code. Then I could not get the process to add a new code to work as it would keep defaulting to the red light part way through. I pulled the batteries back out, disconnected the 9 volt adapter that snaps on to the 8 AA battery tray and snapped in a new Rayovac Fusion. Everything worked like a charm. Go figure. I successfully added my personal code back in and tested it and the door drops like it's supposed to. I am not positive if it was the combination of the 9 Volt battery and the lubrication or just the 9 volt battery. It seems bizarre that it works with a 9 volt battery, but not with the 8 AA's that showed they all had plenty of power left. Really a bad flaw to have a locking mechanism that is so finicky with it's power source on a device where reliability and quick function is the most critical necessary feature to the product. I have another one of these I just use for long term storage that started doing the same thing years ago and I just went to using the key. I am going to have to see if changing to a 9 volt battery "fixes" that one too. Truly disappointed with the reliability of this model and would never buy another one like this. When you buy a gun safe for quick, reliable opening access you are doing so in case you need quick possibly life and death need of it to work. I have zero confidence in this product now and will probably start a habit of opening it when I go to bed from now on. Really stupid situation!

tried this 5x with new AA BATTERIES, thats what mine came with, model GV2000C. will not work. unplug AA battery tray, plug in 9v, and it works. any idea why? UPDATE after troubleshooting. check voltages with multi meter. all 1.45 or better, total voltage in the tray 11.42. it will "unlock" if the door is open, will not if closed. 9v battery voltage is 9.23. door unlocks when closed or open. why does this vault have a 9v connector that a tray of 8 aa's plugs into (12v total) when the 9v works?

9v batteries are constantly failing at the worth possible moment. I pray for a world without 9v batteries which are the power source of satan. And the ones I got today 5 years life on box…. were, underload, weakening obviously as the learn button was depressed. I’ll never buy another 9v powered product as long as I live. That being said I do believe I got this braket from GunVault and it takes an 8 pack of double “A”’s. This power source lasts for years and isn’t mysterious or finicky. Also while programming: sit down in front of GunVault on the work surface in front of you. Rotate the GunVault counter clockwise, one flat so that GunVault is now resting on it’s side; this will allow you to use your handshake and reach in easily. Keep your right hand on the learn button, use your left to operate buttons…. You’ll be done in less time than it takes to read this.

Just found out that mine has a casette with 8AA batteries attached to the top too. Took me a while. The casette is attached via 2 nuts, one one each side, that you must screw loose and the casette will fall off. Then you can take it out. The cable is attached to the casette via a conmector that looks like it would work on a 9V battery, but since I don’t know if the voltage etc would still work and I had AA batteries lying around, I replaced them with that. I guess you‘ve figured this out by now, but for others wondering the same thing…

Very curious why you so strongly recommend Alkaline battery and strongly discount using Lithium when Lithium can last over 20 years in very low current devices such as this? one reason I ask is that I have an older AA powered model of the GunVault and the Alkalines have got me good a couple of times, I now use Ultimate Lithium AA and I hope I will not have any issues in the next 20 years....

@@Ghost-xi6js WOW! That is really odd. I bought one for my wife and it uses 9V and it has lasted years with the very first 9V it only has the second one in it and it's around 6 years old now. Mine has the AA, but no issue killing the batteries. On the the opposite side really they lasted for several years so I messed up and let them corrode on me. If the device drains batteries in less than a year or so and you have to swap out frequently you usually wont see the corrosion? Odd though if yours is draining so quickly stand by current should be very low on these if all is working correctly?

If you have an older model GV1000C (purchased mine in 2007) it will NOT have a 9 volt battery. It will instead have 8 AA batteries in a large plastic case with a 9 volt style plug on the plastic case! The battery case is located on the top behind the keypad model inside. The best way to see how to remove is to use a mirror and light to look behind the metal keypad module. You will see two "nuts" that can be loosened with fingers...one on each side of the battery case. Unplug the wires (9 volt style plug) and remove the two nuts and the battery case can be removed. Make sure to double check the correct installation of the AA batteries (correct polarity) and then reinstall the case. I used electrical tape to hold the flat metal bar that helps secure the batteries in the plastic case. Once reinstalled, use the reprogramming procedure in the video. Good luck, hope this helps!

Incase anyone is still having trouble making their older model gunvault safe to open with the new code. You need to make sure you're using Duracell or Energizer Alkaline battery. 9v batteries for smoke alarms will not work. And also you might need to try programming in your code while your gunvault is on a solid surface where it wont move or shake/vibrate when putting in your code.
