Kafka’s The Trial: Who Among Us Is Not Guilty?

Franz Kafka has quickly become one of my favorite writers over the past month or two. It’s been exciting getting into his work and seeing how certain aspects may have influenced horror or surreal works done by other people. I do think he was ahead of his time. He’s someone I can add to my ever growing list of influences as a writer. It’s wonderful to deal with certain aspects or qualities in yo...

    when I was growing up the internet definitely existed, but it was only something people used at school or perhaps at work if they couldn't find something they needed in a book or asking someone. People had the internet in their homes, but it wasn't common. In fact I think only 1 or 2 people in our street had it. We didn't get it at home until 2007 when I was a teenager, but even then we had to actually go to the computer and use it because the mobile phones had become so tiny, you could barely see anything worthwile on the screen. when i was in america i did buy a couple of tickets online for things, but I found it easy enough if I wanted to to just turn up and buy them in person. This was in early 2020. now here in the UK I normally buy tickets in person if i can and like to keep them afterwards as a reminder of the concert or whatever event it was. while actually at the event i'm there to enjoy it so taking pictures or videos is not on my priority list.

    Process over results bro. Patience is the biggest part of long term creation and the yearning for validation is the biggest threat to that. Write because it keeps you well put together. Write because if you dont you are restless. Write because you can do it every day and have it make every day more fulfilling and keep you present.

    I have yet to read the Trial but your video is fascinating! I wonder if Kafka was expressing identity issues as a Jewish man living in Europe in the 1920s when antisemitism was on the rise. His predominant culture was persecuting him because of the absurd intangible authority of the societal racial hierarchy. He feels "guilty" because he is taught that he should be ethnically Jewish but there is no real logic for that. European Jews just wanted to be equal members of European society so they tried to participate in predominant European culture but the goal posts keep moving. Honestly, it's really heartbreaking.

    This reminds me of how hollow aesthetics feel specifically in women's/feminine fashion and the current women's fashion trend cycle. There are so many options with an infinite number of subgenres that can be hype specific to you and only a few other people. It can be incredibly fulfilling to be able to craft something like that but it can be incredibly isolating or disconnecting. It feels easier than ever to connect and disconnect from people within this current age. Especially with how polarizing something like fashion can become. It can be inclusive or extremely exclusive. This is just sort of what I've noticed since I've taken a step back from fashion trends and what is left of mainstream women's fashion.

    The greatest paradox of the hermit artist is that, by working so hard for years and years, you can connect with people in ways that are otherwise impossible. Look Back's a pretty good story in general, but it hits hard for creatives in particular. This is a pretty good breakdown of that and gave me a couple insights I hadn't considered yet, so cheers. Hope you got to play Doom after all, lol.

    I revisited this album recently, mostly to try and figure how I felt their newest album fared amongst the rest of their work (Songs of a Lost World is in my top 5 Cure albums! It was a good way to celebrate Halloween). Kiss Me x3 is far too long to feel cohesive for me, but the actual quality of all the songs is really good. What I would usually consider weak points for an album ended up adding to the vibe I got from it: the album feels kind of like a lazy, unplanned Sunday at home with someone you love, with nothing really to do. Or maybe it’s more like a memory constructed from multiple Sundays, all the ways you remember feeling. Even the more mundane memories feel like an adventure when you recall how you felt the most vividly. Anyway, good luck on the next Cure video. Disintegration is their best album, so I imagine there will be a lot to talk about.

    • @noahmcalister
      @noahmcalister 10 дней назад

      Oh that's an interesting way to describe, as a lazy Sunday type thing. That's quite fitting, I think. I definitely saw it as more of a party album like I said, but it's interesting that both of those descriptions work, imo. I suppose it's because the album is kind of a blur? I do like that description of "a memory constructed from multiple Sundays" which is super interesting. Honestly, I think "The Snakepit" is the best track for representing this idea of it being a blur, despite being one of the quite different tracks on the album. And I feel similar about SOALW, with it being a top 5 record. I was telling a friend this, that it may even be a top 3 for me. But, of course, I have a bit before I'll get to that video, so I have time to make up my mind haha And yes, Disintegration will be a long one to cover for sure. Not looking forward to it, honestly haha. THOTD vid was like 31 mins long? So I imagine Disintegration will be longer, especially since it was the first album by the Cure that I listened to, so it holds special memories

    • @SkiaRemori
      @SkiaRemori 7 дней назад

      Thank you for the compliment. And I can definitely see an argument being made for the new album being a top 3, because I considered that too. I'll have to wait and see if I'm swayed! It will certainly be difficult since it's a big project, even more so if you have a lot of memories associated with it, because it's hard to get it all down in a few words and feel like you did it justice. But struggling in creativity can herald some kind of growth. Even if you don't like working on it now, maybe the time spent on it will be another precious memory when you look back on it.

    FINALLY! You’re back! Can’t WAIT to hear your opinion on their most recent album! Personally I favor this album over “The Head on the Door.” I disagree, I feel “Kiss Me” is EVEN MORE varied stylistically than their previous album. It’s a wild album and they’ve never made an album quite like this before or since in their career. My personal Cure ranking up until this point is: 1. Pornography 2. Faith 3. Seventeen Seconds 4. Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me 5. The Head on the Door 6. The Top 7. Japanese Whispers 8. Three Imaginary Boys

    • @noahmcalister
      @noahmcalister 12 дней назад

      Yeah, like I said, talking about The Cure for several albums in a row is a lot lol. Like, I love them, but listening to the records on repeat, along with the editing, it was just a lot. Might have to record multiple vids at once, then edit them or something, to make it more manageable. SOALW is great, and I actually think it pulls more from their post Bloodflowers stuff a lot more than people would give it credit for. It'll be fun to talk about when I get there And yeah, KMx3 was actually a record I didn't love until recently, so I might come to like it even more in the future. Anything's possible lol

    • @samstevenson5328

      @ That IS a lot of work! I commend you man for doing your in-depth homework on these pivotal albums and including lineup changes within the band. I’m also really glad you’re into their early “gothic trilogy.” It’s my personal favorite era of the band. I agree on your stance of “Songs of a Lost World.” For me, there are a lot of call-backs to the “Disintegration” and “Bloodflowers” days. It’s a heartbreaking and beautiful body of work that easily fits in with some of their greatest achievements. Thank you again for all you do. Keep it up man!
