A less clichéd version is a chandelier trap that hurts everyone NOT under the chandelier. My version of the "not-so classic" chandelier trap: CR 9; spell, magic device; spell trigger (programmed image), proximity trigger (alarm); manual reset; spell effect (programmed image [PHB 265], 16th-level Bard, DC 20 Will save disbelief), spell effect (shout, greater [PHB 279, augmented to radius instead cone], 16th-level Bard, 10d6 sonic damage [16d6 to brittle objects] plus stunned for 1 round, plus deafened for 4d6 rounds, DC 20 Reflex negates* or Fortitude partial [see text]); Search DC 31; Disable Device DC 31. Cost: 13,060 gp, 8,768 XP (I'm not 100% about that price). * = For creatures that fail the Will save to notice the illusion: if standing under the "chandelier" when the trap triggers, their Reflex save is inverted to determine whether or not they are affected by the trap (failed Ref save means they are unaffected.)

I think the most interesting poison options are the ones that target the climbing ability score (depending on which game you are playing).

Maybe I would add elements to each encounter room which influence the teleportation effect, such as crystals, amulets, enchanted skulls, which add +1 to the portal roll per item, and have higher number rooms get rather gnarly. Great concept, certainly going to run that one!

I am the creator true but if there are more vines that means I may have to come up with more things that may happen. Thanks for your ideas and words of encouragement. am glad I helped expand the scope and deadliness of this trap. Hopefully I don't run into this trap in my adventures.

A nice twist, and a good way to pull the characters deeper into the structure to recover what might be a treasured and powerful item. Perhaps they get there only to discover it's now in the hands of a fearsome foe who is not so inclined to kindly return the lost item.

You could also do things, like have some of the vines be animate objects that attempt to ensnare those swinging on them, and possibly trying to suffocate them. Also if you want to be evil, the mechanism swinging them could also contain the weak tracks, with the vines changing track at regular intervals, meaning that the vine that just was safe no longer is. If you're going with chains, you could also do things like have them be very hot, or very cold, causing damage if caught with exposed skin.

What about using percentile dice to determine the amount or ropes or vines? Also what if some of the vines act as pull ropes for other traps such as sandblast or release poison gas.

Before this video I never though about using tattoos in my adventures but this has given me a good number of ideas for both adding more to my world and making things more interesting.
