Sounds good. Adding special quarrels can provide nice variety. Magical ones could circumvent the absurd complexity of a mechanical apparatus capable of targeting PCs on the move. Situation variety too. EG: PCs walking down a narrow corridor, repeating crossbow opens fire from behind them, continually firing, essentially turning the corridor into a death trap. If PCs run, augment with a secondary trap, such as a pit trap. Else maybe splash alch fire style attacks when they get to the end of...
...the corridor, blocking the exit they spent the time getting to with a raging inferno, forcing them to brave it, or else try to go back and take out the crossbow. Lots of juicy possibilities. Can hook through in ceilings, walls, or even in floors. Just have the pressure plate depress a locking lever which pushes up on a false section of the floor behind the PCs, with the crossbow mounted at an angle below. Repeating mechanism can store energy in a variety of ways and also be triggered. Mmmm.
Oh, and thanks for these. They're interesting ideas, and rather inspiring. I've diagrammed out three traps since I watched this vid an hour ago.
