Thank you for sharing your knowledge on this motor. I bought a used MercuryTohatsu 6hp four stroke earlier this year and it’s a very good motor. Hopefully it will give many years of good service. Really appreciate and enjoy your videos--Best regards, Jack.

i think that the gas running back to the tank would eliminate the chance of gas flooding the cylinders if the bowl ever stuck open

I have one it's the white tohatsu

Bought a new prime bulb, I noticed that if I don't have a hose on the outlet end it doesn't pump fuel out unless I put my finger on the outlet side, is this normal, my old prime bulb sucked fuel even without a hose at the end

I used to use a 3 quarter shim to pick the motor up and get it to throw a rooster tail

I think you can change your carburetor and get more speed

I bought a new fuel line assembly with a defective bulb. It would barely push any gas, enough to fire, but not run. The seller sent me a new assembly and this one works fine! If you get a bad one, tell your seller what you did to check it and what it's doing or not doing and don't write an angry email. They'd rather keep your business and might send you another one for free like they did for me! My seller was "Overstock Boat Parts!"

Very nice running engine. I’ve used only non-ethanol gasoline in it. Should I still drain the carburetor dry, or will it be OK to leave some 100% gasoline in the float bowl? Thanks very much!--Jack

ran my 2 stroke outboard for 10 minutes on the ear muffs / hose - ran beautifully. Next morning squeezed the bulb maybe 3 x times and couldn't start it after launching at the boat ramp. My next move is to not touch this bulb unless the motor hasn't been started for a few weeks

I always shut the fuel flow to the carb at the end of the day and let it run till the carb is empty

Always check the emergency cut off switch take make sure it has not pulled accidently. Note some times those switches break off internally and you can't see it. Bypass around switch if found defective.

how do i find a throttle resistance knob for a 1990's 6HP 2 stroke mercury?

Is it safe to have your outboard slighly trimmed up all the time? It's not like with the big outboard motor + bass boat, where you have to trim down before making a turn?

It was probably made by Tohatsu. Tohatsu made (co-brand) small outboard engines for Mercury.

You are a true idiot. This is a bunch of bs. The cylinders dont condesate. The lower unit doesnt leak water in. And fuel stabilizer does nothing. Stop pretending to be smart and grow a brain.

Hi.I start the mercury 6 hp 4 stroke with no problems in the mornings.I drive it 2-3 hours in the sea and put the boat on the beach.After 6-7 hours,when ı try to start the engine it never starts.Then again it starts perfectly in the next morning:)Do you have an idea about the problem?Thanks

How do you fix the locking pull cord? The pull cord on the Mercury 6hp locked when we were out on Lake Erie on our sail boat. It locked up when I tried to restart it before we took our sailboat into the harbor. I watched your video on water and back in harbor after sailing in.. our problem seems to be the white lever doesn't go up when I try to shift into neutral. So not only does pull cord not pull, I can't get it out of forward. Richard
