    0:01 maybe we should feature a travelling soft toy companion per trip. This is Shrooms. 0:37 If if I may say so myself, that's a pretty unique way of spending a bday 1:11 Botswana really has many, many elephants. 2:31 yes the skies are always this blue, even in winter. 4:16, oh yeah, I kept thinking we were being served by the Last Samurai. That said, Lift was a pretty comfy budget ride. The food/ drinks were unexpected. 5:15, there is also a 24-seater version of the truck. For our trip, we were lucky to be with 10 other really fun folks, and as a smaller group, got the upgraded version of the truck i.e 12 seater. Our truck is named Taureg Someone asked us why travel by road when it would be faster to fly? Sure, but there's something about travelling overland that makes the trip the way it was. Slower and more immersive, or maybe its just the vastness of Africa. 🐘

      Travelling via Nomad Tours was definitely a new experience for us considering we don't usually join "tour groups" - but it's something I'm glad we went through, because we met such good people and created new memories while exploring the roads less travelled. :)

    Hi Jelly and Mr P, a very belated Happy Birthday to Jelly! It looks like a wonderful adventure trip. This is the first time I've heard of a nomad tour. @tobyteng7522 hello! Jelly's usually shy of ppl giving her attention, so getting our friends to sing her a bday song really helped chase her shyness away for the rest of the trip. More to share on the adventure we had. The tour operator we went with was called Nomad Tours, but as its namesake, we were really travelling like a modern day nomad. At that point, we weren't missing sg food that much yet, but after more days on the road, Jelly needs her spice. We had 2x precious Tom Yum cup noodles packed haha.

To me, it was just another day in the year, so this one felt really special. Fortunately, or unfortunately, I wasn't filming when I was doing bushy-bushy (usually I'm done under 1 minute). • @oheyjelly
      @oheyjelly 13 дней назад

      Hello there! Thanks for watching our vlog & joining the @oheyjelly RUclips fam! I would say that hiking Mount Gede is generally less physically-taxing compared to Mount Kinabalu. There were some really steep terrain, but it's doable with more breaks in between and staying hydrated. There are also options to go slower, different routes, camp more nights etc, as long as it's communicated with your guide beforehand. If you're a 60-year-old who is relatively fit, exercises regularly e.g. hiking, climbing, running, strength training etc, I'd say that you're probably fitter than me (and most other youths!). 💪

      @saidkhan538 hello there, thanks for watching our vlog. To add on to Jelly’s reply, POS 1-2 was more gradient slope, and the steepness really sets in from POS 3-5 (imagine double stairs for at least an hour). That said, the hike being less famous and the camping in a pretty impressive edelweiss meadow was certainly worth it!

    @0:12 does Swee Heng have affiliate links? 😅 @0:14 after months of planning BY MR P. @0:43 for those who are wondering, we each packed a larger backpack combined with a smaller bag for the trip. The intent was to pack 8-10 days worth of clothes with a few laundry cycles in between. But as you will see, this didn't happen as planned haha. Luckily for us, SQ announced Book the Chef for premium eco class passengers and we were spoilt for choice pre-selecting our meals. Sometimes, its amazing knowing how much effort SQ puts into making sure that the meals taste just as good inflight. Fun fact, our taste buds changes with elevation, and keeping the meals tasty in a pressurised cabin is challenging to say the least. Bravo SQ, best way to fly. Have you taken this/ similar flight before, let us know your experience in the comments box below. Stay tuned for our next vlogs as we go overland trucking with a bunch of fun folks🚌

    Very Nice video! Thanks! I'm going to great wall in August, I'm undecided if go to mutinyau section o jinshanling section. Have you got any suggestions? Do you think that mutianyu will be very crowded in August? Or maybe the same crowd of your video?

    • @oheyjelly
      @oheyjelly 22 дня назад

      Hello there! Thanks for watching our vlogs & joining the @oheyjelly RUclips fam! 😄 Each wall has its unique features, but the long meandering wall would be best represented by JinShanLing. There were also less crowds which allowed us to better enjoy the landscape in its entirety. There's a raw & natural beauty which i really appreciated. Some wall segments weren't fully restored, extremely steep & rocky. There are plenty of steps, and you could take time to walk, explore, climb & take in the sights, sounds and crisp clean air - but you must like hiking, and don't mind breaking into a sweat. The flipside was that there were little food choices, and lesser time on the wall for day trips. MuTianYu has more modernised infrastructure (in terms of cable car, food options, shuttle bus, general signs). It's an easier walk for someone with general fitness. If you don't like walking, there are also a variety of other transport options up/down the wall. It also has the toboggan for thrill seekers. There are definitely more crowds since it's nearer to Beijing. We also went to the Shan Hai Guan/ Lao Long Tou, which is the first Pass from the East and where the Great Wall ends in the sea. It was definitely interesting too. Ultimately, i think you may have to consider a multitude of factors - 1) how much time do you have to explore great wall? 2) how keen are you to hike, and also your physical fitness? 3) will you be taking public/tourist buses, or hiring a private transport? 4) do you prefer a more commercialized experience, or something more authentic? PS: I just returned from an early July trip to China and it happens to be their 2-month school vacation break now. It should extend till August and domestic travels are insane. Would advise you to go after August for sure. :)

There is definitely quality difference when it comes to Premium Economy vs. Economy Class meals 😛. And yes, we did experience quite a bit of turbulence on both going & return flights. In fact, my most recent flight out to Kunming (Yunnan, China) was also so turbulent I had to hold onto my armrests half the time, and the seatbelt sign was turned on 80% of the flight. 🙃 I didn't even visit the washroom throughout the flight haha. Hello there! Thanks for watching the vlog & joining the @oheyjelly RUclips fam! 🤗I've seen a few solo-travellers while we were in Bhutan, so I doubt that solo-travelling will be of any issue. The guide tagged to you (you'll have to book your tour package through the operator first, of course) will be able to offer assistance in photo-taking as long as you ask him to. To add on to Jelly's comment, one way bus ticket from beijing costs 50yuan pp. The shuttle one way from the ticket counter to the wall entrance is 10yuan pp and the cable car one way is 40yuan pp (if you buy return there would be a slight discount at 60yuan pp). Hello there! Thanks for watching the video & joining @oheyjelly RUclips fam! 😊 Great job on making the climb to Panalaban base! It's definitely not a basic climb for most, and we trained really hard/intense in the two weeks leading up to our trip. I did stairs, squats, inclined walks/runs on the treadmill & a few hikes at Bukit Timah hill. Not to mention with our full backpack load to get accustomed to the weight - since no porter. 🫠 I'd say the focus is on breath regulation & listening to your body too. Give the climb another shot after you feel more prepared? The view at the top is amazinggg. 💪🏻

    Hi Jelly and Mr P, thank you for sharing your adventure to Tiger's Nest. It blew my mind when I heard you say the Tiger's Nest was constructed in 1692! I am intrigued how they were able to build a monastery on a cliff. I hired a horse when I was at Mt Bromo and it was one of the most terrifying rides in my life. I am glad you went on foot. 5:04 The monastery at Tiger's Nest was built 245 years before the blue pine tree was planted in 1937. Is drone allowed to be flown in the area? 9:17 the view is stunning. 10:04 the steps look really steep. 10:49 How nice of Domo kun and Sylvanas to tag along too. 12:26 too bad cannot take video or photos inside. 18:04 hungry already. The home-cooked meal looks so yummy. 18:06 oh dear. What happened to Mr P? He looked OK during the climb. I am glad he got better. 22:30 In your opinion are high cut hiking boots better or low cut ones? I have a pair of low cut hiking boots but I am thinking of getting a new pair. I also second your advice on hiking sticks. It is a must for me too. Thank you again for your lovely vlog.

      Hi Toby! Thanks for the lovely comment! ✨ Apologies for the late response as wifi & network has been really spotty here i Africa + we've been out camping so there's no network whatsoever 😮‍💨. Yes, we were also mindblown knowing that the monastery was constructed in such circumstances & environment. To fly drones anywhere in Bhutan, you will need to request your agency to apply for the necessary permits. We didn't try, so not very sure about the full process! The view was indeed stunning, but a pity that no recording equipment is allowed into the monastery. We cldnt immortalize the images on social media, only in our memories. 🫠

      Oh yes, i always prefer high cut boots when hiking. I feel like it gives me a lot more stability & protection for the ankles. However, they're a chore to remove/put on, and especially so at security checks in airports.

    Hi, video very useful. Tks for the tips. One quick question- when you all were climbing to the summit - can you leave your main backpack at the hut and pick it up enroute during the descent? I noticed from the base up to midpoint, the bags were bigger but from midpoint to summit, everyone seems to be carrying smaller bag. Tks

    • @oheyjelly
      @oheyjelly 2 месяца назад

      Hello there! Thanks for watching our vlog & finding it useful! Yes, when you're making the summit attack, there's no need to bring along your main backpacks. Just pack a small one to put water and other stuff you might need for 2-3 hours when you summit and make your way back down to panalaban. You will collect your main backpacks after returning from summit, have some food at the restaurant (if you're in time for lunch), and head back down to base after.

    @2:31 it was easy to just stand still and had help wearing the gho. @5:53 Punakha Dzong reminded me of the Japanese castles. Located next to a flowing river, a tall central building overseeing the region, evoking an almost zen-like vibe. Can imagine how glorious the building would have been to people of the past. @8:48 Won't exactly call it a lesson, more like a mini-summary of what we learnt from Kinley. The Wheel of Life is the representation of all realms and it serves as a reminder that all things are associated to one another and your actions, no matter how small, does have an impact on others. @15:27 is how Dochula Pass looks like after dark. It was a natural kind of real cold, one that I haven't felt in a while. It was kind of refreshing. @17.03 having our dinner at a local shop was quite the experience. This was where we learnt more about Kinley and Tandin and shared further stories and laughs. It's funny how connected we can feel after a few good 4 days, perhaps its just innate in all of us. Hi! We've observed that they're generally a cashless society today. However, it'll be wise to carry along some petty cash wherever you go. Cash will come in handy in cases where systems crash (i.e. cannot pay using apps), or in some cases, transport - the public bus driver bringing us to Great Wall only accepted cash for the bus tickets. If you were to go to the smaller towns and cities, the locals may also accept cash more than cashless options!
