Buddhism made simple and easy by finding Zen insight in your everyday life, which I call Zen Fits. The wisdom of Buddhism is not complicated or abstract when we stay focused on our everyday experience. We must work with your world that is given, that's the first rule. The second rule is that you don't need anything but your own experience to become more conscious. It's not what you see but how you see that is important. Let's wake up together!
The pain of the bud is the pain of the bloom
When you are stuck in pain and no matter what you do, there is just more pain, that is the moment when you should stop and see through and through that there is only one Pain that has no cause, The pain of the bud (the ego) is the pain of the bloom, or imagined awakening.
The bub and the bloom are separate outside, but inside, they cannot be separated. You are the pain and the pain is you. See that and your suffering ceases. From the beginning all beings are Buddha...or One pain...Life is suffering said Buddha.

Well done, Ed 👏
I assume you got this on a post in Living Zen where a link to my talk came with Hakuin. I'm not doing any live talks as the urge has not rising to do so. I have a thousand talks on youtube that I have been giving under various titles since. 1015. Wow..how time flies. These talks were my dharma talks, my active Zazen where I just turned on the camera and winged it. This was the only talk where I just read something.
...I have this book resting in my library shelf for years...never got around it...the small print, the yellowed pages , wry writing... today just happened to hear you...Great teacher you are I say... now, armed with such a succinct introduction I'm going to read it ... looks like you do have a way with books👍 God Bless 💕

Hello Ed, how are you. I am looking for the talk you did on the heart sutra. I commented on it, but now I can’t find it back. Can you help? Thanks! 🙌🏼
I can't fine it either. Unfortunately I don't tag my talks with key words or put there subject in the title. I'm amazed at how many titles thee are. Whoever is doing these talk is very creative. I haven't given any for some weeks now. They come and go, having their own mind and title. Was there something specific about the Heart Sutra that you are looking for? The first thing I do every morning is get coffee, and the second is chant the Heart Sutra. Like my talks, the Sutra is self-generating. Self-generating is a good idea, for it means arousing the mind, the. energy that does not rest on other agents. And this is the Heart Sutra....the Maha Mantra that transmutes everyday experience into gold, or a new way of seeing or knowing, a way that is fresh, innocent and always for the first time. The Zen teacher that activated the Heart Sutra for me was Albert Low and his little book What Am I? I cannot express how transformative discovering this diamond in my life has been. The Prajnaparamita Heart Sutra comes from the Diamond Sutra, diamond meaning it cuts through everything. Sound..sound is what arouses the Bodhisattva of Compassion...what is the sound of the words before the meaning. This is why Sanskrit language is powerful because the english meaning are added, and you can drop into the pure sound and forget the words...you can hear the jazz before the song is added. An Old Pond A Frog leaps PLOP (sound) We chant the Prajnaparamita as if the chant is chanting us...we are carried away by the sound, killed by the sound so sweetly, so lovingly. The first time I listened to the chant, my actual heart, this chakra of being, began to pulse is great throbs of sorrow and joy...Oh...stop..Oh...don't stop...On and on..on and on...my being was held and squeezed like a baker kneading dough. The Tears of Quan Yin....are real...so very real... The sound of the heart sutra sung by Imee Ooi, arouses the Heart from its sleep beneath our thinking mind that fractures and separates Being itself, this Knowing that is the heart of life. So I chant the Prajnaparamita for no reason, not to have that experience again, not to attain anything. Prajna means aroused knowing, and Paramita is across to the Other Shore and the cessation of the suffering of separation. ruclips.net/video/QUzzivYjvRA/видео.htmlsi=KV1Oqspm6ZxZWJKO Stay in touch.

I love the story of hui neng. It really hits home that he was an illiterate woodcutter. It resonates very much so here because the first glimpse and the hunger for awakening was aroused at hearing an audio recording of a recitation of the diamond sutra. Truly a powerful text about nothing at all.
The books and talks by Albtert Low (Montreal Zen Center) introduced me to Chinese Zen and the Koans and writing of the Golden Age of Zen (7-9 OCE), and it shifted my understanding and practice from passive waiting for something to happen, to active, from intellectual zen to the kitchen and pantry everyday mind. It was the Prajnaparamita Heart Sutra that gave me open heart massage of great waves of joy and sorrow..Stop...don't stop....oh..stop...don/t and I knew through and through that Prajaparamita...The diamond Surtra is its parent, and the Patriarchs are real. So why did the monk ask the stupid question? Or did he want to test the master?
Koans are dramas preserved for a thousand years from the golden age of Zen (7-9 AD) they are mini-dramas that put a monk's point of view (yours) against the master (the awakening mind). This is a drama or confrontation between the Egoic mind and the awakened mind. A koan is a nut with the sweet meat of awakening inside if you can crack it. But, these hard nuts cannot be cracked by the logical rational mind, like the question you asked, which is a logical question. The monks ask logical questions, and the master points beyond or upstream of logic to a new way of using the mind, the creative way. The koan unlocks your creativity...but you have to come to the realization that the koan cannot be cracked, yet, you stay with it...letting the koan chew you up.
THANKS A LOT I LOVE THIS BOOK

On the heart sutra I keep the mantra is written as Gate gate Paragate Parasamgate Bodhi Svaha, and translated as "Gone, Gone, gone to the other (river) bank, together gone to the other bank." And I never knew what the hell it was trying to say. So thank you for this, it is much clearer now.
This is a working mantra, a can operner you can use to Let Go of impediments in the mind, those situations were a tape loop gets going between two faces of the mind. Find the contradiction of bleeding wound in the mind, find on view and say GATE, then find the opposing thought or mind, and say GATE. Then, finding the two viewpoints-I should do this, I want to do that- and say PARAGATE. Then see that both sides of the contradiction are empty...PARASAMGATE......Bodhi Svaha...Oh, what an awakening.... Parasamgate is awakening that is beyond yes or no, right or wrong, good or bad....I AM is an explosion....
Thank you @@conley347
Very insightful metaphor, this. Thank you!
All I know is what I see in the movies. Great movies, great metaphors, our rational secularism has erased the traditional myths/metaphors. Movies are our gurus now. Unfortunately, most don't know how to read movies as stories to wake up by. Instead of arousing vision, they are the way we avoid reality.
Great to see you again, Ed!

Thanks for your comment because it demonstrates an awakening awareness-which is. I'm OK, you'OK- that is always sleeping beneath I'm Not OK and the world is Not ok. You felt it stir, and responded by going back to the video, despite your Not OK surface mind saying this talk is not OK, I'm moving on. You heard the Call and responded. This may seem like an insignificant incident, but I see something much deeper going on, like a waking up of a sleeping giant, a good giant mind you, but a giant who is dreaming he is an insignificant human that feels either he or the world is not OK. You felt the giant stir.... We are so much greater than we think or dream we are. All the fairy tales and myths tell us so, but we think they are just fantasies and not the sleeping giant within. When the giant wakes up, EVERYTHING is OK. Why not, you are a giant.
Don't feel Sorry for the way you may feel So Express yourself you are the real deal Others feel the same way they will reveal Common ground is the appeal So be real Not to conceal how you feel you will heal

I finally just got a glimpse of the beauty of the smile of the Buddha without a “Flower being Twirled” in front of me……relax and release the art of letting go of control and spontaneous spontaneity…how to see the unconditioned within the condition…I am glad I ran into this presentation 🎭
Thanks for the response, and I saw this talk was 4 years ago, or was it 20, or 50? The Smile of Buddha is behind the years, and as I age, (I'm 86), this smile never changes. Who is writing these notes from the Other Side I wonder? Smiling his secret smile and posting notes and talks to be left in the wake of time, the Buddha smiles through my life. Like the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland, the Smile is here and there, disappearing, appearing, always coming, always going. From the beginning, all beings a Buddha. (Hakun) All beings are the Smile of Buddha.
@@conley347 Yes, Yes, Yes…….but the way you spoke about “The Smile” and as it hit my ear drums a shift in perspective occurred without anything new being introduced and that is on a micro level as each moment comes and goes all kinds of permutations of emotion and thoughts come and go sometimes perplexing us as we grapple with phenomena…..one way of grounding ourselves is to return to the knowing of “not knowing” which is our true face….as this “not knowing” becomes familiar a sense of ease permeates the moment…..and a “Smile” occurs spontaneously by itself inside of us and manifests itself - on our face. Ahhhhhh, that is The Buddha (Awareness) smiling through the lens of recognition.
If you are in Panama I just friended you. While I post talks, I write in Facebook. @@mralexander99
@@conley347 I am not in Panama, that is where I spent my boyhood (6yrs old - 16yrs old)….I very rarely use Facebook so I am not the type to “Friend” on it. I live in San Francisco now, I left Panama 🇵🇦 in 1970 and I have been on “walkabout” ever since. I fell deeply in love with The Buddha and The Dharma in 1997 and have embraced his teachings with all my blood, sweat and tears. Engaging with the Thai Forest tradition of Ajahn Sumedho and Ajahn Amaro, along with The San Francisco Zen center and Spirit Rock. Recently over the last 5 years I have fallen deeply in love with The Stoics as expressed by Marcus Aurelius, Seneca and Epictetus. Combined with the Persian poets of Haféz, Rumi and Attar mixed in with Nietzsche, Spinoza and Emerson as nutrition for the mind to guide me on as life itself sculpts me into moving in the direction to approach Life as the art of living….i find myself fascinated by zen koans and Hakuin and Dogen🦅
Forgive me, but isn’t “Koan” pronounced as “Ko-Ann” instead of “Cone”……maybe this is a “Tomato vs Tomaatto” question? But either way the koan “Mu” is a fascinating journey that I am currently engaged with. Just recently as I was working on “Mu” while I was on a long walk in a park….i had a sudden flash of humor that reflected on this question….what if the monk had asked the great zen master Joshu - “Does a cow have Buddha Nature?”……would the answer have been the same? And immediately following this train of humor another sudden flash pierced my thoughts - “You will never ever ever ever understand “Mu” conceptually at all because it is the sword itself cutting off conceptual thought before it even begins throwing us into the wide chasm of immediate experience of this instant of falling into “not knowing” being most intimate that is unconcerned with answers and embraces the “not knowing” as it’s field of living experience --> “This Entire Universe Is One Bright Pearl?” --> “Mu?!?” Or as a dog would say “Woof?”
I suggest the study of the works by Albert Low, Zen master of Montreal Zen Center. His teaching of koans has been a revelation in my practice, teaching me how to inhabit the koan, chewing on it, seeing it from every side, turning it over and over until it pops in the mouth like a grape.
Thank You……and that is how I have been practicing with this Koan…from the moment I wake up until I lay down for heavenly sleep keeping the koan close to me…..sitting in Zazen “Mu” is what I keep in mind with me…..it is “Mu” in all sounds, all events such as disappointments, irritations, annoyances…it is all “Mu”…………every delight, joy and surprise is “Mu”……….”Mu” is the fulcrum containing everything, nothing and in between……”Mu” cracks me open revealing that my views, preferences, appetites, wishes and desires are just floating into the mist of life while living each moment, day, week, month…..I can’t say year yet since I picked up “Mu” a few months ago…. I have found Ruben Habitio, Henry Shukman on RUclips and “The Book of Mu” to give me the instruments to probe “Mu”……and I have ventured forth to a zen teacher in Berkeley CA for one day to see who I could find as a one to one teacher…but nothing came of it…..so my eyes and ears are geared towards those being out there who have fallen in love with “Mu” as she works inside of me cracking me open to the vastness of the universe as the “me” fades away it’s grip on my panoramic view of life….and today the RUclips algorithm gave me your video….so here I am🦅
Albert Low, Zen master tucked away at Montreal Zen Center, opened the mysteries of Koan practice, and especially MU, which is called a breath through koan. You cannot begin the practice of Zen until you break through the barrier of MU. But all koans are MU. No, wait...my whole life is MU!. MU breaks through the ice of thinking. MU smiles through the fixed face of my mind. MU is everywhere in the movies. The dance of Zorba, the liberation of Barbie, the Life of PI when he reaches the Other Shore and finds that like Dorothy he never left Oz. . What is MU? What am I? I am MU, both the question and the answer. Check out Albert Low on the Montreal Zen Center. He died a few years ago, but his expositions and talks on Zen has aroused MU in me, the mind that does not rest on anything. @@mralexander99
