Has Gary Kitchen seen this?

Garry Kitchen recently said in an interview that it wasn't sabotaged. If he was given limitless ROM size, he still couldn't have done more given the time constraint. It had to be in stores in Sept, so he had a May deadline. He said he could have done all four levels, given an 8K cart AND more time.

When it comes to the various Atari 2600 VCS versions of Donkey Kong I already have the original Coleco Donkey Kong for the Atari 2600 which I like playing, but I was not really satisfied with it being missing two of the arcade levels. Having watched your video I believe that I would like to have the Donkey Kong Arcade version for my Atari 2600. I don't care for the scrolling up and down the screen like on the Donkey Kong VCS version. What I do like is that Donkey Kong Arcade and Donkey Kong VCS both have all four screen levels like the original Nintendo Donkey Kong coin-op arcade video game has. I might buy the Harmony cartridge some time in the near future, but for now I will have to rely upon playing the various versions on my Stella emulator program for my Windows PC.

The Atari VCS version is sooooooo cool. I even like the vertical scrolling aspect; it’s both an interesting innovation as well as a clever workaround. I really admire the creative ingenuity that the team put behind this version. Oh, the Gingerbread monster 😂

As always, the original arcade is the ONLY version that should ever be contemplated. ;)

Always annoying when someone makes a version of the game and changes the order just to show that they KNOW it was originally supposed to be that way. Doesn't matter what it was going to be. You are still not making a faithful reproduction. Unless you are making a Crazy Kong port.

My parents were children of the 70s and 80s so me and my sister were always avid lovers of Atari and arcade games growing up, only now have I finally beaten all 4 stages of this game and it feels so satisfying

Imagine if Atari had of cared about its customers enough to put out the best versions of games they could instead of cheeping out to maximise profit short term. Thanks Atari your greed gave us Nintendo.

What a nice Christmas game!

Some have made claims that this contributed to the crash. It makes sense at face value; it is a poorly made game designed to cash in on the gaming craze, but then logic is applied. Not a single shop stocked copies, and it had low sales and production. The unsuccessful selling strategy also resulted in most copies getting destroyed. As such, it's one of the rarest and most valuable Atari VCS/2600 games.

I'm quite sure I've seen the arcade machines that say "How high can you try?" In fact I questioned why some of them said one thing and others said another thing. Maybe it was a change made to take away from the idea of "How high can you get?", which obviously sounds like you are talking about something else.

Donkey Kong VCS is visually beautiful, but the Donkey Kong arcade version is far more accurate to the arcade in many ways. Sure, it's not as visually nice, but simply fantastic and incredible when considering that it was created via basic.

Such DK versions on hardware that was designed never to do this is simply astounding.

I'm sorry to disagree with you but the Atari 2600 Donkey Kong wasn't good. It sucked. It was one of the worst versions of Donkey Kong that has ever been made. The Atari 8 bit computer Donkey Kong was much better. Donkey Kong for the Atari 8 bit computer was a must have game but the Atari 2600 version should've been thrown in the trash. The Atari 2600 version of Donkey Kong Junior sucked as well.

informative video. 3 of the Sancho games where released over here in Australia under the John Sands brand. Exoset was Exoset Missile, Skin Diver was Aquatak and Seahawk was Seahawk.

I wonder why the US version had the levels the wrong way around?

For what i know,back then they had to create the graphics by knowing exactly how the raser beem gun of a tv works by telling the beam wich pixel to generate at wich color and at wich moment,same thing for sprites, so you can imagine how hard and boring that must have be to do so, I don’t know if theres software today wich could automatically convert backgrounds & sprites automatically into co.ordinated signals for the tia chip,but if so then it should be nowadays much easier to make atari 2600 g ames unlike back in the day and adding extra rom and ram into the cartride should allow better graphics to be possible on the atari 2600😁

Played this heaps back in the day, especially 2 player on the ice tracks, lots of fun.

When I was in JHS, we used to play the hell out of Space Invaders. Used to have contests and all the weird 2-player/co-op options were just a blast though it did leave to a few punched arms here and there.
