Hike: Tillamook Head - Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club
June 15, 2024
Tillamook Head Trail, located in Ecola State Park between Seaside and Cannon Beach, is actually part of the Pacific Coast Trail. This is a densely forested area, and part of the trail can be muddy after the rains. There are World War II cement structures scattered around the top, you just need to explore a bit off-trail to find them. Views can be had of the Tillamook Lighthouse, also known as Terrible Tilly, which was first lit in 1881.
This hike can be completed as a one-way trek starting from Indian Beach to Seaside, or vice-versa. On this day, we began at Indian Beach, reached what we thought was the apex of the hike, then returned.

The Wreck of the Peter Iredale - Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club
Просмотров 3128 дней назад
June 13, 2024 During our annual campout, we visited the shipwrecked Peter Iredale near Fort Stevens, Oregon. This was not a hike, but an enjoyable visit to an interesting piece of Oregon history. In the early morning of October 25, 1906, the Peter Iredale, a four-masted steel bark built in Maryport, England, ran aground on Clatsop Beach, just south of the mouth of the Columbia River. After the ...
Hike: Saddle Mountain - Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club
Просмотров 116Месяц назад
June 13, 2024 Located just east of Seaside, this popular trail leads hikers up the slopes of Saddle Mountain. This was day one of the hiking club’s annual camp out, and it did not disappoint. We camped at Fort Stevens State Park and made the relatively short drive to the trailhead which begins in a lush green carpeted forest. In the spring, the flowers here are just amazing. Around every corner...
Hike: Cliff Lake and Buckeye Lake - Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club
Просмотров 77Месяц назад
May 11, 2024 The short 2-mile hike into Buckeye Lake, via the Skimmerhorn trailhead, is an unremarkable standard walk through the woods. But the views at Buckeye Lake are spectacular. Sitting right below Grasshopper Mountain, Buckeye Lake, along with Cliff Lake just to the east, provide hikers and backpackers that quintessential high altitude mountain lake experience with little effort.
Hike: North Umpqua Trail - Jessie Wright Section - Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club
Просмотров 1203 месяца назад
March 30, 2024 This 7-mile roundtrip hike from the Marsters Bridge to Boulder Creek and back takes hikers under the volcanic remnants of Eagle Rock, Old Man Rock and Rattlesnake Rock. The North Umpqua River is a constant companion for most of the hike, with the trail remaining mostly flat along this section. The picturesque bridge at Boulder Creek provides the perfect lunch spot and turnaround ...
Hike: Sacchi, Agate and Merchants Beach - Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club
Просмотров 2164 месяца назад
March 16, 2024 Starting at Seven Devils Wayside just north of Bandon, this hike takes you along 3 beaches: Merchants, Agate and Sacchi Beach. It's 2.5 miles to the end of Sacchi Beach, but there are some rocks and monolithic boulders you will have to deal with, making it barely passable at low tide. This hike was scheduled to do just that, and we were able to make it around the point.
Hike: Bullpup Lake - Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club
Просмотров 1248 месяцев назад
October 28, 2023 With the morning sun glimmering off of Bullpup Lake and the snow-covered trees perched against the clear blue sky, our minds were duped into thinking that Christmas must be right around the corner. Yet, Halloween hadn’t even happened! The trail from Bullpup Lake leads further up and eventually peaks near Lost Prairie Rock. Our plan was to see how far up the hillside we could ge...
Hike: Tipsoo Peak - Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club
Просмотров 1139 месяцев назад
September 16, 2023 With spectacular birds-eye views of Mt Thielsen, Mt Bailey, Sawtooth Mountain, and Diamond Peak, the trek up to Tipsoo Peak is well worth it. This is an absolute must-do when hiking in the Diamond Lake area: You get all the views of being on a tall mountain without the strenuous task of climbing one of the aforementioned daunting peaks. The trail going up has a steady but gen...
Hike: Rogue-Umpqua Divide Trail: Three Lakes - Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club
Просмотров 7310 месяцев назад
August 19, 2023 On the far eastern end of the Rogue-Umpqua Divide Trail lies Three Lakes, if in name only. In reality, there's really only one lake, but even then, it barely qualifies as a pond. Perhaps in the past there were two other small bodies of water, but it appears those have all but dried up and turned into meadows. This was our destination, nonetheless, so the route to get to this lar...

Hike 3 of 3: Annual Campout 2023 MCNEIL POINT On this third and final day of hiking, we had determined one certainty: Mt Hood attracts people. Like tasty campers attract blood-thirsty mosquitoes, which thankfully there were next-to-none on this trip, Mt Hood draws its fair share of nature-lovers and thrill-seekers. As we made our way to the trailhead to hike toward McNeil Point on the northwest...

Hike 2 of 3: Annual Campout 2023 TIMBERLINE TRAIL As we arrived at the Timberline Lodge to hike along a small portion of the Timberline Trail, it was like showing up to a large sporting event: We had to find parking and then join the throngs of people who were all there to enjoy, well, a multitude of activities. Hikers, backpackers, snowboarders, skiers, and your regular everyday tourists. Most...
Hike: Tom Dick and Harry Mountain - Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club

Hike 1 of 3: Annual Campout 2023 Tom Dick and Harry Mountain If there was an award for the most unlikely name for a mountain, Tom Dick and Harry Mountain would most likely walk away with trophy in hand. Named for its three distinct peaks along the summit, TD&H would also probably win the award for busiest trail in the Mt. Hood area. On this day, there was no shortage of eager hikers making thei...
Hike: Hemlock Creek - Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club
Просмотров 13111 месяцев назад
Beginning from Lake in the Woods near Glide, this trail leads hikers up to Hemlock Lake, the obvious headwaters of Hemlock Creek. Entirely forested, the trail goes past several small waterfalls and across quaint little wooden footbridges. At the top, an intersection near a large scenic meadow offers several routes for hikers to take. One trail continues to Hemlock Lake campground while the othe...
Hike: Pine Bench - Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club
Просмотров 105Год назад
July 8, 2023 The Boulder Creek Wilderness is a rough, unforgiving area with tall cliffs and steep canyons. Not a place you'd want to get lost in. Ahh, but there is hiker-friendly plateau by the name of Pine Bench on the southern edge of this wilderness that begs to be walked upon! Nature provided a nice big flat place which offers some great views of rocky bluffs and gentle strolls through tall...
Hike: Cape Mountain - Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club

April 15, 2023 The Cape Mountain Trail system in the Siuslaw National Forest just north of Florence provides hikers and equestrians alike with a variety of options. Cape Mountain itself is not the destination, but the area around it is. With a multitude of intersections here and there, there are many different ways to hike this wooded place. On this day, our group took the Princess Tasha trail ...

The absolutely amazing video and the nature around is simply beautiful. Thank you a lot for making such a video. It's really cool to experience something new like this, as I feel like I lost my adventure spirit a while ago and not being able to access it ever since. This pushes me to get back out there and explore and enjoy life again. Thank you so much and wish you all the best :)
