This not-for-profit channel is dedicated raising awareness for conservation of the Western Lowland Gorilla and their habitat. By bringing attention of these captivating animals and sharing their inspiring stories of day to day life we hope to help build on their popularity with the goal to raise public awareness to the dangers this species faces and the vital protection needed to be able to flourish in the wild. She is staring at him occasionally and not moving when he walks near, which normally she stays away from him, and avoids baby Willie B too. Silverback Bachelor Brotherhood Group

In Habitat 1 in ZooAtlanta's Ford African Rainforest exhibit is the Silverback Bachelor Group. Here is Stadi and Kekla, and Charlie is somewhere off alone. Did you know all 3 silverbacks have the same father? Ozzie who died a couple years ago was the oldest living gorilla in captivity and fathered these guys. That makes the 3 of course, half-brothers.

Gorillas develop twice as fast as humans and are fully independent much sooner in life too. Willie B is still very young, but he is in his "toddler" stage and it will not be much longer before he gets into his full blown "kid gorilla" stage like Floyd. Of course everyone will see him as "the new baby" for now, so he should enjoy it while he can.

You can see the entire Willie B Jr family enjoying their new climbing structure amongst each other, and you can see Kambera is very pregnant and it won't be long before a new infant is born. Baby Willie is getting stronger and starting to try and grab all the biggest branches and leaves for himself, and if he doesn't eat it, he'll play with it.

He's over 400 pounds and is the biggest gorilla in his enclosure as well as the whole facility. He lives in Habitat 1 with Stadi and Kekla. Zoo Atlanta pioneered the housing of putting multiple silverbacks together in a bachelor group, just like the would in the wild.

The Zoo has been busy for the last 2 months erecting this structure in Habitat 4 for Willie B Jr's group to enjoy and keep them exploring and intereacting in new ways. Baby gorilla Willie B seems to love it, and seeing has they will soon have another infant gorilla it won't be long till there will be 2 youngster climbing the structure and playing.

Floyd and his sister were only playing, but because his sisters are still much bigger than him, Lulu his mother came running in and grabbed his sister from behind to defend her kid gorilla. Poor sister had the look "why didja do that? We were just playing?" But mother's will always protect their offspring when they aren't fully grown, even if it's a bit overkill.

What I love best is the bigger ones know they can win in a wrestle match and they don't do it they simply play equal or something let the smaller gorilla feel like they are winning. That is must more than just bonding that's a true sense of love for your fellow sibling or dare I say it loved one. I know some will say that animals can not know love but I diss agree my dog knows and if these gorillas are of higher mentality than our common pets of cat's and dog's then I say then can.

I understand exactly how that feels. I also have a lot of older sisters who fight with me 24/7. And if they're not fighting, they're trying to drive me crazy in other ways.

Who's the silverback of this troop
Taz is the Silverback, there is one other juvenile female named Andi that isn't in this video, and there are 3 adult females in there enclosure too, Kudzoo, LuLu, and Sukari.
When there play there don't bite eachother hard do there
no, they aren't really biting at all, and the few times they do, it's usually to say "hey ease up a little"... they open their mouths more for a show. They do pinch, grab and sometimes smack pretty hard, but gorillas are definitely tougher than humans, so they never get hurt, other than their feelings sometimes.

I think you could be right, The only reason I even made this a topic, is that normally Armari stays away from everyone during feeding, I'll have to see if she's doing anything else that is really different. Little Willie always is close to hid dad when possible. It's so cute!

Like some humans there are some who develop bald spots or alopecia and some from over grooming but you see that more with chimps and bonobos
Interesting, I do know that she is naturally a little "longer limbed or taller" then other female gorillas too. The only info on her I could find was a vet checkup exam at her old zoo and they made no mention of her hair. I never have seen her plucking either...

It looks like Willie B is the one who's flirting. Has Amari recently had a "knockdown" exam? The veterinarians probably shaved patches of her hair. I've seen that a few times at various zoos.
I don't thin so, her arms have been like that for some time. I tried to research the answer online but got nowhere. I suppose I can just as one of the Zoo staff who sometimes are at the viewing area telling everyone about the gorillas

They are very handsome,, the zoo’s need to get together from around the world to get new blood lines for or beautiful gorillas 🦍.. don’t get me wrong I love the Silverbacks they are amazing to me but IDK 🤷♀️ they need a troop so they can become great Dads to their offspring. I could watch silverbacks all day a never not be happy 😂unlike sometimes I get mad 😡 at some for what I think is being mean😊. Bros living the single life, what a shame this will be the sum total of their lives. There are many females available for pairing, but is always the case red tape gets in the way!
What i understood is that the gorillas in captivity are often close related, the Dna Pool is small.. also the silverbacks are used to a Harem of females... you can also look at the positive side... no headaches for these brothers😊.. but i agree it is sad they will not have families of their own.. they are beautifull

Even though I’m not a fan of zoos. This looks quite habitable for the Gorillas.
Justifying zoo's is such a complicated topic, and there are compelling reasons for both sides of the argument. The fact that zoos still exist that have sub standard care or facilities for animals does not help either. For some animals that are endangered I think it's a necessity to have good quality conservation programs that involve zoos for conservation education, but I think for animals that aren't endangered it's not really necessary.

Definitely, that will take over 10 years before he even begins to show signs of his head growing and other silverback characteristics.
Do the gorillas enter the habitat through the rock windows?
At the top of the hill out of view is their entrance, I do think there is an observing window for keepers, but usually they just stand on top of the rock facade where there is a railing when watching from that side.

Too bad they dont have swings, mirrors and such to distract from boredom. A water fountain would be fun too if they like getting wet! Stuffed gorillas might be fun too. Big toys. Balls and frisbees too.
They do have most of those things, in hab 4 they just put in a new structure they can climb on with ropes n stuff. Some were even able to climb the trees now. They have enrichment devices for getting food out of, and sometimes they get objects to have, mostly burlap sacks which they seem to love. I'm sure that their indoor enclosures have more swings and possibly mirrors... not sure . Thanks for watching and commenting!

It's just bumper music for the intro and outro. Plus most of the audio is not the original because no one would watch these videos if they heard how truly annoying and ignorant the humans visiting the zoo when I'm there can be. Plus the kids are screaming a lot etc. I'm doing everyone a favor with the "annoying music". Hope you made it past the first 20 seconds when it stops.
