The great men of this world are polymaths. The problem with all this, is that the modern world ( USA ) is a democratic-Republic and not a Kingship. The USA since the 1960s has been usurped and the psychopaths have been making sure no man becomes a King. This is the Truth. But, even at that someone will gather a group of the same-minded men and take over their country. They will start Kingship again and make peace on this earth for a little while, until the next King takes his kingship away. And, all this will be done with brute force, which modern societies have no respect for anymore. The great men like King Charlemagne and Alexander the great, used force. The great Kings understand the usefulness of force. Most men today will avoid force because they have been taught that force is wrong, yet look at your own government ? You as a free citizen are not free and are being forced, by laws, taxes, inflation, property rights, etc to do as your Kings or Masters tell you to do. The Thief Larry Fink of BlackRock, said, he and his company will get together with other Trusts and " Force " change as they want, because trying to convince people without force never works. King Charlemagne had to " force " people to accept Christianity and converted people by " force ". I know this is not the answer people want to hear, but being a manager in a corporation or a good father is not the same thing as being a real King. Most men actually do not want to be King and you can not read a book and become a King, it is something you are born with as a child and you become one as you live life and the many experiences you gain. There will be a time, when you and only you know when to take control. And, you will need other men and women to help you, but with all of these people around you you will be alone. This is why most men will reject being a King.

As an architecture student I totally agree with most of this, Thomas Heatherwick wrote a great book about this. Not that he is a perfect architect, but I would argue that most of his projects are quite beautiful. The one thing I might disagree on is that it is all the architects fault. It’s definitely originalt the architects fault for introducing this cost cutting futuristic different kind of thinking that was mainly adapted after the war as a result of a bad economy. The problem is that cost cutting has also become a culture with developers. It’s scary having to pay more for something that might be more worth, might not. It has also been a quite large culture shift in many architecture schools around the world, where le corbusiers early works are looked at as proven to not work. And Mies Van der rohe’s houses actually make you feel like living in a display case. Human scale has become important… again

Acedia isnt just not caring, its more like not caring, while at the same time wishing you did care but you cant. You feel completely dead to the core, bored out of your mind, want to be moved, and appreciate all you have, you want to want to go do something but nothing and i mean nothing sounds even remotely appealing, its like a cloud of deadness comes and smothers your soul and all you can seem to do is wait the 4 or 5 hours that seem like 400 years for it to lift off you. Or pray to God to get it off you.

It is so understated how much of human spirit is either built up or torn down by surroundings we live in - its very telling that architects themselves and people of power prefer the old, but always force everyone else to live in the new. Political discourse has to touch upon urbanism and architecture, because inevitably, it is those surroundings that make a place desirable and worth fighting for - no one fights to save a concrete block, but everyone will want to see an old townhouse saved. and it is that discourse that is so antithetical to the left - with visible tradition and history in place, their ideas are refuted and have no purchase when people have roots and commitments to their physical place, as opposed to abstract and fluid ideas.

Dante was a non-christian, a heretic. Only those who have not read it have a highly opinion on the Divine Comedy.

Love it! If the "Grayhound" is indeed Dante's Comedy - what it contains can truly transform the whole world and future of the Universe.

Great work. The lack of these perspectives in modern culture and intellectual life is also unfortunately reflected in English translations of works like Dante's Comedy - often missing essential dimensions of allegory, anagogical insights and mysticism. But reading the originals with this in mind, opens up an infinite wealth of beauty and wisdom!

The Aesthetic City released a video recently about the failure of schools of architecture, very much along the lines of these talks. He has a very low opinion of modernist "starchitects." That video also highlights that, thankfully, there are schools for traditional architecture being revived, or classical tracks being reintroduced in some modern schools. To name a few in the States: Notre Dame, The Catholic University of America, Benedictine College, Utah Valley University, University of Miami, and more. I hope it become even more prominent. Traditional architecture needs a renaissance.

You define the problem nicely, like all the experts, but I hear no practical solutions. We're all clear there's a problem, but how do we solve it? Other than "become your fully realized archetype". HOW?

This Christian obsession of having children is strange. It makes sense with God saying be fruitful and multiply. But if the human race goes extinct, what does that matter? Is earth more important than heaven? Why would ushering in the second-coming be a bad thing? It's disheartening to hear that having children is this all-important thing for those of us with genetic disorders that make it ill-advised to have children. Jesus did not have children and neither did Paul. If anything, it is more Christ-like to not marry and not have children. Another point: If we believe in evolution, then we already know that the desire to have children will be biologically and socially selected. So it's suspicious when your values happen to line up with exactly what evolution selects for. We don't need to be fully cynical, but come on. A healthy dose of cynicism is needed to prevent gullibility.

My only retort in this refreshing abd truthful discussion is in regard to the Dark Ages .. the man in England responsible for the destruction of monasteries and the keepers of knowledge was the ruler responsible for the English Reformation.
