as i stated on a previous posting, I am not British, I am American. I have never understood some of my fellow citizens obsession with the royal family. The idea of service to others is a noble virtue and one that is lacking in this world. the KING of Kings showed us what it means and we all would do well to embrace it.
Hey Greg, I'm American too and never stood the obsession growing up either. Having been able to think about it more over time though, I've had some of the following thoughts: 1) Being obsessed with the royal family for the mere sake of it is different than being interested its affairs out of recognition of the symbolic power of their position and the inherent value of the monarchical institution. 2) While the latter half of the above is preferable, even the former half is ideal to what we have in the states: celebrity worship over much more banal and narcissistic individuals. What I'm trying to say is that if people are going to obsess over the lives of others (which I think will always happen at least to a certain degree), then it's better that they obsess over people who are at least expected to comport themselves with an actual degree of respect, reverence, tradition, and dignity. And when they actually do so, in the case of Elizabeth, they provide an example to millions of others of what servant leadership looks like. Elizabeth had her King of kings whom she followed, and I'd like to think her life inspired others to follow that same example

I agree that obsession is unhealthy, however bear in mind she was a devoted Christian and so is her son
Because monarchy is a historic and natural tradition that everyone subconsciously wants to have.

@@RewiretheWest nicely said. It's something to think on. Honor to those who deserve Honor, respect to those who deserve respect.
