Great video. Man, you got me thinking with that question. It's almost like a challenge. I don't know if my answer is a valid one but i would say that the thing that TW2 does better that the others is Flotsam, that place to me is the most deep, interconnected, cohesive and alive area in all three games

I think the thing with Witcher 2 is that it plants the seeds for a lot of the things that you really like in Witcher 3. That said I agree with your lack of shining that Witcher 2 has unless you really like the political intrigue. My favorite song from all three soundtracks is in virgin but it's on the other side. I'd suggest playing it again but go the other path and see what happens.

I played Iorveth's path many years ago. It was my introduction to The Witcher, I was a bit overwhelmed and I remember little about the story. I'm definitely going to consider playing it again in the future. I agree very heavily with what you said about it planting the seeds but then Witcher 3 often doing it better. At least in my opinion, Witcher 2 takes a bunch of steps in the good direction but it's soooo easy for me to compare to Witcher 3 that it makes it seem worst than it probably is 😅 Thanks for the comment, as always!

I think this is what happen. 1. gaetan come to the village for a contract 2. the elder and gaetan agreed for a certain price 3. gaetan kill the beast (very high chance wounded in the process) 4. gaetan comeback and ask the reward 5. gaetan see this elder have a nice room, probably have much wealth for himself, so gaetan ask for more 6. this shocked the elder, and probably make the elder angry, so they ended up yell and curse at each other 7. gaetan (probably wounded) tell the elder that he will wait in the barn for more crown he ask, gaetan also needed time and place to heal his wound 8. while gaetan in the barn, the elder and a few man think they can take on a wounded witcher, thinking it would not be to much of a hassle because of the wound 9. the elder came to the barn with a few man, but no, they cant kill the wounded witcher, instead, what they are doing is only enraging the wounded witcher 10. blinded by his rage, gaetan kill all the villager, all, except this one girl, who reminded him of his little sister 11. not long after, geralt came this this village

I think its such a brilliant retelling of the snow white and Popiel's legend mixed together. The daughter of a nobleman drinks the poison that makes her die, but it's not a poisoned apple given by an evil witch but a sleeping agent given by a morally questionable mage. And instead of a prince coming to save her with the true love's kiss, it's a depressed peasant. And as the peasant kisses his undead lover, they reunite, but not as a happy bride and groom, but instead they reunite in death. I love thid quest.

Honestly for me personally this quest is pretty ok. There just isn't much going for me other than the moral ambiguity of deciding to kill the werewolf or not. Even then you feel restricted over the outcome of the quest and it's pretty short in length. I think as well trying to pick a favourite side quest would be difficult for me, it's like trying to pick a favourite food haha. If it came to it, I think it would come down to a side quest from either Skellige or Toussaint. Anyways keep the videos coming man, I'm loving it!

I hear a lot of arguments in favor of sparing gaetan like: -'but he is a witcher and witchers are rare' -'but the villagers cheated on him' -'but gaetan did kill monsters to save peoples lives' The thing is sparing him would only make sense if gaetan had only killed the people inside the barn, but no he simply had to go all the way to every house which are more than a few meters apart to slaughter every inhabitant and if there was not a little girl that has the looks of his sister, than yeah he is in high risk in killing children as well. So no Gaetan needs to be put down, the risks are simply too great in my book.

When I played it, I had played the first game but that game was WAY less heavy on using book terminology and having information about the various nations. So I still felt like I was thrown in the deep end in Witcher 2. Consequently, I don't think I enjoyed the story as much as I probably would now. I'm glad my comment made it to your video. What's weird is chapter 2 I feel The combat isn't as bad. Maybe you get better. I don't know for sure. But since you're grouped up on all the time it makes it really hard to do. One of my personal gripes but I know it's trying to be immersive is the map. Especially in chapter 1 because like you said everything looks the same it's so hard finding things. Especially the contracts. As for the music. I always have loved the shadows and conspiracies track which is like the stealth music you heard during like conference and such. I do like the bar music which is in chapter 1 and on the iorverth side in chapter 2. I do think one thing chapter 1 gets right is this kind of fantasy world type place that flotsam is almost at the edge of the known world in a weird way.

Actually, you are right about the tavern music. Initially, I had a moment in the video where I talked about how I enjoyed the short segments with Dandelion, Zoltan, Triss, etc in the tavern. One of the reasons why I liked those segments so much was the music, it was really good. Unfortunately that part of the video ended up being cut for a few reasons :/ Also I just listened to shadows and conspiracies again, I think it does a great job at creating tension but it's not necessarily a track that I will really remember personally. I can see why you like it though, it definitely isn't bad. Interesting to hear you say combat might get better in Chapter 2. I'll keep an open mind and we'll see how it goes!

Funnily enough I recently finished Witcher 2 and had the same thoughts as you in regards to many aspects. Particularly with repetitiveness as you're walking along the same paths many times, with side quests compounding it further. One thing I absolutely hated though, which you didn't mention, were the invisible walls around the forest. Instead of being able to walk through virtually everywhere (Witcher 3) there are many invisible boundaries which ruins the environment for me personally. I also ended up picking Roche as he is the character I wanted to explore first when I first played the game as I remember seeing him in Witcher 3 and thinking he was an extremely cool character. Also I'm a sucker for lore, so I wanted to learn more about Temeria. The stuff you said about the ambience I also totally agree with. The music and noises felt very C tier and just overall pretty generic. Whereas in Witcher 3 the music excels in immersing you in the area you're located. Particularly Skellige as the music uses tones reminiscent of medieval Highlanders or Vikings. Anyways that's all I got to say, another awesome video as always. Keep it up!!

Glad you enjoyed :) It's true that Roche is awesome in Witcher 3. We don't see him much but I find his character and his patriotism for Temeria quite interesting. That man could be alone against Nilfgaard and he still wouldn't give up. Also I really like the song that plays in Witcher 3 when we talk with him at his hideout. I can understand how seeing him in Witcher 3 made you curious about him. In an ideal world, Iorveth would've made an appearance in the third game as well... It's a bit disappointing that he's not there at all. Also I agree with what you said about the invisible walls in the forest. It just feels like an extremely limited location to navigate and unfortunately it's super easy to compare it to Witcher 3 for us haha and it's clear that the world of Witcher 3 is way more enjoyable to navigate overall.

@@muskeys In my opinion, the elf's path is more interesting and has a better location, and a large role is played by Filipha, who is absent from Vernon's and her part of the plot is very important in 3. importing this ihorweth also adds more unique w3 dialogues
