The Boys: Power Corrupts ...?
The Boys has gained a notable spot in online discourse as the show to reference when talking about what superheroes "would actually be like" - often contrasting the morally upstanding heroes of more positive stories with the weird evil freaks of The Boys, all based on the logic of the famous quote, "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." But does The Boys actually hold such a pessimistic position? I don't think so. And you can decide for yourself after watching this video essay analysis thing

I love that many people got inspired about by TTGL. Sadly even though I enjoyed the hell out of it and immediately considered it best anime I watched so far (and now consider it best anime of all time) I wasn't inspired by it, it didn't changed my life. Barely any fiction did. :/ Only 2 titles did and one was negative and positive effect from another didn't lasted (while negative did). Maybe actually more works of fiction influenced me and their influence was negative? ._. But my watch list was quite normal, mostly typical stuff, something that would likely to inspire someone than discourage them.

Gurren Lagann is a celebration of the Mecha genre. Its plot is nowhere original and its concept is obviously derivative from the likes of Getter Robot, Mazinger Z, Grendizer, Gundam, Evangelion, Gunbuster and many more. But it didn't shy away from being a derivative of those shows. GL wants to celebrate those shows and they both "parody" and pay homage to those works through great story telling and compelling character arcs. The anime only has 26 episodes and 3 recap movies but even then it didn't push for more or over-reach their story.

Good video! This basically summarizes my views on the ending as well. I agree, it’s more important to look at the scene from a thematic and character standpoint than to read too much into the literal imagery and events. I see it not so much as a contradiction of the previous scene’s optimism, but as a grounding of it. If the scene ended with Shinji choking Asuka, without the caress or him letting her go, I think there would be a stronger case that the ending is just a total downer, as some think it is. With those bits, and combined with the previous scene, however, I think it shows that reality is often harsh and we will often fuck up, but there are still good things in the world and we can learn and move past those fuck ups.

The way I think is that you should do your best to care for others and yourself in your life, but if something comes along that necessitates this blank stoicism so you can avoid catatonia in the immediate aftermath, let it be so, only for as long as it's needed. John Wick is a good example of this: he was at peace after a previous lifetime of wetwork, living with his dog, before he gets beat and said dog gets gunned down ruthlessly. After he dismantles the mafia he originally worked for, he feels relieved, knowing that his retribution is complete and he can live in peace again, hopefully not having to kill anyone else.

To me, the main message when I watched it was: it's good that you managed to become a better person but all the pain you inflicted, all the mean words you said and all the bad things you have done to others... it won't go away. People hurt by you won't just tell: I forgive you, I still want you to be part of my life. Most of them will in good scenario say: I'm happy that you are now a better person, but the damage you have caused is too much for me to want to have you near me, maybe the time will come when I had healed and we will be able to talk like we used to, but not today. And this is the ending in EoE. You have to live with consequences of your choices even if you wouldn't take them in your current state. It correspondes with the ending of TV show well. There, people were just happy that Shinji managed to improve himself, but it was in his head, in reality these people just aren't near him - it's the real life - if someone loved you, but you hurt them, the past them would be happy about your change - although they wouldn't be near you in real life. Asuka and Shinji on the beach can represent two different messages to viewer having two different tasks. Shinji failed his own task, because he relapsed on causing harm to other people - the result is that despite trying to be better you will have moments of weakness. And Asuka had a job of showing affection in a humane way, which was hard for her, and she did it - she teaches you a lesson, that you can truly change for better and there is hope for you, like for Shinji, to deal with you own problems, change your bad habits and ways of dealing with your traumas. Asuka can also show you that sometimes even for your own sake you have to forgive. You, the viewer, have a task to not only forgive yourself for your mistakes but also forgive other people for theirs. Only then you can live YOUR own life - not the life other people burdened you with due to their mistakes. Shinji himself is shown that he managed to realise what had happened. He makes a symbol of a grave for Misato but also generally for his past. He realised that it's all gone - people from the time before he was sinking to the bottom won't come back and he has to move on, which he partially does. But he can't further progress. It's like with people who grind bad grain every morning and wonder why they eat unhealthy bread every evening. He sits or lies on the beach hoping that someone from his past will come back, despite the fact it could be better to just move on - if you burn a bridge you can't expect it to be there tommorow, if you hurt someone they won't be there for you next time waiting to potentially get hurt again. He has a problem with things he has done, what his world is now and what it means for his future - in some way it depicts that he did change for better internally, beaouse if you despise your past bad choices it means you grew as a human. To sum up. Eva and EoE are both beautifull, there is no happy ending because this anime was meant to be in some way realistic and so is the ending. It perfectly depicts a lot of issues and can teach us that we can overcome them, but in the end we rip what we sow, even if we sowed it in the worst moments of our lives. And always remember that escapism isn't a good choice to make, the real life can inflict the pain, but it's because it's real. If you decided to read this all, thanks. If it managed to make you a better person, congratulations.

I can see many of us doing very similar if not the same thing as Eren Yeager given such a power. People like to talk big about peace and prosperity but almost all of them don't have what it takes to get those, Patience, lots of Patience. I don't think you will wait in your house like a good little boy hoping things will work out for the better while entire Army is coming to kill everyone you love especially when you possess a power to stop them once and for all. People want to build a better world so they and people they love can live better lifes. As my man, Madara, said, selfish intend of wanting to preserve peace will only intitiate more wars because hatred is just a byproduct of love. I lost almost all of my hope in humanity long times ago. Hope i won't live long enough to see they destroy their selves.

Choosing to feel good at seeing the wellbeing of others will come at a cost of feeling bad at seeing others in despair and trouble. It may be the reason behind why many people are trying to become more stoic and emotionless. Especially when you have a devil of a thing called internet everywhere you go which filled with negativities. Kindness and Empathy can harm you if you left them unchecked and Anger and hatred can help you if you see it from the specific perspective. The words "Good" and "Bad" have too many definitions that they don't mean a thing anymore. Thorffin's journey to Pacifism is not that different from Nagato's journey to Consequentialism if you think about it.

Aspire to evolve beyond the person you were just a minute before like Simon, but understand that it's okay to struggle with life like Shinji. Neither character is better than the other, neither had better development than the other. Simon's progress was mostly an ideal constant, while Shinji's was far rockier and more realistic. We all have spiral power, we just need to courage to put it to use and the ability to accept that the occasional dampeners are an unavoidable truth that we have to press on through.

Asuka held shinji's face to tell she's alive. Shinji cried, and asuka was appalled "Here he goes crying again. And i find it...disgusting." It's like ending was telling yes people are back, but does not necessarily mean changed. Shinji is still the same shinji and asuka is still the same asuka.

If he would given Armin and Hange a plan to somehow build peace with the outside world, then a lot more people would reconsider agreeing with the alliance. But because they’re isn’t any other solutions, we get an nonsensical ending. I know this story is supposed to be realistic but just the idea of teaming up with your former enemies while killing your own friends and comrades in the process and then dooming your family and your own people in order to save a bunch of strangers who hate your entire existence is just… it’s ridiculous! I’m sorry but it’s like if the Jews found away to destroy the Nazi empire and they created an secret weapon in order to save themselves but then a rag team of Jewish rebels felt like this was going to far so they tried to stop it from killing the exact same people who put them through concentration camps. 😐😐😐
