Thank you for sharing and watching!🌻
This is well presented, but if you have seams that won't lie flat, your quilt top has fullness/wobbles/bubbles the problem is usually in construction, not pressing technique. Back up a bit and go back to basics: did you cut accurately with straight cuts? Did you sew a correct and straight seam? did you press seams open as much as possible (keeps the top flat as possible)? Those three things cause "the wonky and bubbly." Pressing/spraying/blocking can hide construction errors but it cannot fix them.
Thank you so much for sharing and watching! 🌻
I love your sewing room. So beautiful. A lovely place to create.
Thank you so much! 🌻
Cute, like a yoyo but not. Im always open to new techniques
I love learning techniques too! Thank you for your kind words and for watching!🌻
Thanks for showing this. I saw it in a book but just couldn’t do it
So happy to hear my video was of a help! 🌻
Thank you for sharing, new to quilting
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching! 🌻
Love your humour to lighten a sometimes frustrating procedure. Great visual on your techniques. Tx. Ontario, Canada.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching! 🌻
The dark side?
Hello. Pressing to the dark side means when you press the seams on your quilt block you press them over towards the darker fabric so they don’t show through on the front of the quilt. I explain more about the technique and how it is done in my “How to Press Your Quilt Block Seams-Quilting Tutorial” video. Thank you for watching! 🌻
@@ginnielynn got it. I'm a beginner, so I had no clue what you meant by that.
No worries. I got a similar question after I posted that video and why I did the other video to help folks out. I am so glad I could help! 😊 I didn’t know either when I started and had to ask too. It was why I started my channel to help other quilters starting out. I am so happy I could help. Let me know if there any other topics I could cover in a video. Happy Quilting! 🌻.
@@ginnielynn thank you so much. 😊❤️
Thank you! I’m a new quilter, after you make the half square triangle will I need to square up the block?
Thank you for watching! 🌻 Yes it is good practice to square them up. I use my Clearly Slotted Trimmer ruler to square them up.
Wow. Thought I knew every hexie technique out there... (Like yo-yo's, but better.) One sheet of cotton flannel would probably do fine for batting in a quilt of these. I am currently waiting on shipment of a 1000 hexie papers, and will have some fun with these, while waiting. One odd thing I've noticed in the world of fold-over paper hexie making is the insistence that papers HAVE to be left in on aggregate edges, as if you can ONLY sew them together with the paper intact, and the hexie will self-destruct without the form (everyone presses....right?). I see this even in videos where the maker has neatly thread basted the corners down. Nice presentation. Thank you.
Thank you so much for the kind words and sharing! 🌻So happy to hear you learned a new hexie technique! They are quite fun! Not sure if you saw my follow up video “Quilting Tips: Hexagons Without Paper Forms” I recently posted where you can see a project I am working on with this technique and I offer a few tips too!
I do this, but I come up the center from the outside, leaving the knot on the outside. That way I can just snip the knot off after I have pressed and sewn together.❤
Thank you for watching and sharing! 🌻
GENIUS 😮
Thanks for sharing the washing tips. ❤
Thank you so much for watching and your continued support of my channel! It is so appreciated!🌻
This is perfect timing! I just finished my first quilt this weekend and had been searching around for videos on how to wash. Thanks so much for sharing 😊

Thank you for acknowledging that you are in the US, and a lot of us watching are not!

ok, the entry to your vid with the pup in the cart prompted me to do a thumbs up! Love it
Aw thank you! My dogs love their trips to the hardware store! Thank you for watching and liking the video! 🌻
Is it a UFO if the fabric has been purchased and the pattern is ready to go, but no cutting has been done at all? Is there a different 'title' for these? Most of my stash space is occupied by non-starters like these....😢
I have a few of them and I did count them, but put them in their own category. 🌻
Thank you
Thank you so much!🌻 Thank you for watching too! 😊
So you say, but I find it more prone to error looking through the thickness of the ruler.
Thank you for sharing and watching! 🌻When I first started quilting I kept hearing this phrase from other quilters “to cut with your ruler”. So I guessed at what they meant for a long time, until one day someone actually demonstrated what it meant. Imagine my joy! I tried it and things got better I wanted to share what this meant in case someone else was struggling to understand as well. I find the ruler lines help. 😀 Happy Quilting!
So glad I found your channel! I needed humor today especially. Watched your "10 tips/flat seams" and love the ending. Thank you for sharing... I learned much.
Thank you so much for watching and your kind words! 🌻 so happy to hear the video made you smile! 😊
Smart double face .meditative
Thank you !🌻
Thank you for sharing. Could you use a hexagon template without paper?
Thank you so much. 🌻If you want to use the circle as a starting point then you would need a circle twice the size of your hexagon template. Center the template on the circle begin to fold and finger press. I use my nail to really mark it. When done pull out the template and refold and do a quick securing stitch. I can shoot and post a short video this week on how I did it if that helps. Does this answer your question? Or were you thinking in the lines of cutting the hexagon from a template? If so, that joining technique would use the standard 1/4” seam for piecing. I can show that in a video as well too if that helps. Let me know. 😀
@@ginnielynn Thanks that helped.
Great news! 🌻
Great video. Thank you. 😊
Thank you so much! You are so welcome! 🌻
😂😂😂
Thank you🌻! So happy to see the laughter! It was a fun piece to shoot. 😂
Nice tecnique. I will try it out on some circles I have left from a yoyo quilt I made.
Thank you so much! 🌻hope it works out well for you. Working on a follow video with some tips tied in with a small project.
You could also do it with the velcro-y ones if you needed to be able to detach and reattach it so it could still be stored flat or in a narrow space!
Great idea! Thank you for sharing! 🌻
I like that cork idea for seam rippers! I am going to USE that IDEA for my stiletto!
So happy to hear idea was helpful! Thank you for sharing and watching! 🌻
I don’t like the lint brush with my machine so I use a softer makeup brush.
Great idea! Thank you for sharing🌻

I have that same work bench! Right now I use it as part of my desk for work. But it is a great cutting surface. I love this table.
Thank you for sharing! It is great! Love the flexibility! I have it paired up with my other table in the room now to finish up my collage quilt project. 🌻
I love the inspiration! I'm gonna get a proper work bench now. Sewing tables are crazy expensive, but I found a good work bench with pegboard back, drawers, and a light for less than $200!
Awesome! Thank you for watching. I did put a link for mine in the description, a few folks requested it if you are interested. 🌻
I enjoy using a tackle box to house my sewing/quilting supplies. I bought it many years ago; it has a flip open top, but then the bottom flips open separately and has handy little containers in it which I can use to further subdivide my supplies.
Wow that sounds super handy! Thank you for sharing! 🌻
You didn’t tell everyone that your work table is a Husky work bench. I have one and it’s my sewing table.❤
Thank you for sharing and watching! 🌻
The spool adaptor on your featherweight looks interesting. Can you tell us about that please? The overhead arm that feeds thread from the cone. Thanks
Yes it is a Featherweight Stand. Since we typically now use modern, cross-wound thread spools or large cones the stand helps for easier flow of thread! I got it from one of my favorite online shops the Featherweight Store. Here’s a link for the stand. singer-featherweight.com/products/thread-stand In addition to being my go to spot for Featherweight items they also have fabric and notions as well. 🌻
Seems to me you undid the wrong stitches? Doesn’t that leave a hole in your seam. I think you undo the stitches within the free bit of seam allowance. And I’d use smaller stitches and maybe a dab of fraystop because now there’s a risk of them coming undone, especially if you wash your quilt.
I had the concern about them coming apart as well. You’re just removing a single stitch generally in two spots to make the spin. Most likely the piece will be quilted and will help hold things together. I have done this on a few pieces and have had no issues. Including the small blockI used to demo the hammer usage in the video. 🌻happy quilting!🌸
Jealous for that bench too!
Aw! Thank you! If I come across something similar in the UK 🇬🇧I’ll let you know! 🌻
I sooo wish we’d could buy such a long ruler in the UK. If anyone has a source over here please tell us!
I lived in London for two years and have a friend who’s a fellow quilter in the UK. I’ll check with her and see if she has any sources I could share. Thank you for watching !🌻
Watching a second time so I can see the intro again.0:11 An adorable dog and pleasant music!🌻 Great supplies suggestions, as well. 🛍️ Also, I want (but may not need) the Kobalt storage drawers. 6:42 I just checked online and all the colors are in stock at my local Lowe’s.
Thank you so much! 🌻 I was looking for an opening and had taken that shot when I was out researching and getting video shots. It was so cute at the time. So was thrilled when the idea came to me on how I could use it and I could make the transition make sense. Thank you for your continued support of my channel ! 🌻 I really appreciate it!
I used to take my Yorkie every where even hardware stores he loved riding in the cart with his hair blowing back it was some of his favorite times. His name was Rhett Butler yes that Rhett Butler from Gone With the Wind!! I really like the Kolbalt tool box great idea!! Thank you!!
Thank you for watching and for sharing about Rhett Butler! 🌻 How sweet! 💕
The magnetic tray, got mine at a garage sale for 50cents or a dollar. DEFINITELY wanting a rolling tool chest for all my sewing crafting tools.
Wow! It’s the best when you find a great bargain! Thank you for sharing and watching! 🌻
Can you put a link to the table you have
Thank you for watching!🌻 I added it to my description. Here it is as well. 😀www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-52-in-W-x-24-in-D-Steel-2-Drawer-Adjustable-Height-Solid-Wood-Top-Workbench-Table-in-White-HOLT5202BJ2/311742117
@@ginnielynn thank you! 😀
You’re welcome! 🌼
I use a rubber mallet instead of a hammer to flatten my seams. Same principal, but the mallet was already on hand or I would have used a hammer.
Thank you for sharing! 🌻
Do not get that round magnet bowl, it makes the pins stick straight up into your hands. Get the rectangular one.
Thank you for sharing! Good to know! 🌻
Don’t need a full sized hammer. A small tack hammer will flatten those seams and fits nicely in with your other notions.
Thank you for sharing! 🌻 I typically use my tack hammer as it is easier to store.
That large ruler is a great idea. I use my dining table for my cutting table so, it will definitely work for me. I shop at Lowe's (it's closer to my house) and I also have the Kobalt toolbox🤩. I also use painters' tape too. I love your work bench. I would have taken that route if I had thought about it. My husband made my sewing table for me. I also bought insulation foam for my design board. I have one board in each room. Since they are very tall, I put them on their sides. Thanks for the extra tips!😊
Thank you for watching and sharing! 🌻I am so happy to hear it was helpful!
Good ideas. I use a parts bin for my small stuff, thread, bobbins, etc. Works great! Saves space
Thank you so much! 😊 Thank you for sharing the great idea about the bins. 🌻
I use a rubber mallet that was a gift from being one of the first people into a sewing festival. It works great for the sewing room. Lighter than a hammer and easier on the fabric.
Great idea! Thank you for sharing and watching! 🌻
Ginnie Is your Husky cutting table 30" Deep? What are it's dimensions? I am searching on Home Depot for it.
It is 24" deep and comes in several sizes. If you do a search on the Home Depot website for "husky adjustable height workbench", you should find them.
Here is the link to the one I have. www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-52-in-2-Drawer-Adjustable-Height-Table-White-HOLT5202BJ2/320931117
I need the magnetic bowl...the bigger the better. I have a tendency to fling them somewhere in the general area of my small magnetic pin cushion and then picking them up from all over the floor and table for where I missed
I flung a clip at the magnetic bowl yesterday. It grabbed it and in it went. It was pretty cool. 😀Thank you for sharing and watching! 🌻
I use old worn out toothbrushes
Thank you for sharing! What a great idea! 🌻
