    Cool, I can never find rpk specific mag pouches, I use some surplus French or British sling pouches I found at a surplus store for my 40s, I like to tape my 40s together tho, so a big dump/sling pouches works better

    An excellently informative video, as always. To the point and factual: something that this platform sorely requires. Incidentally, are there any good reference materials on Fallschirmjager equipment? I recently came across what was advertised as a DDR jump helmet from 1990. I was only aware that the east German airborne used steel WZ. 63 helmets, but this example is made of plastic with leather padding around the rim and a Styrofoam filler. For the life of me, I can’t find any source to indicate any switch to this manner of helmet.

    Hello Simon, I' like to correct you a little bit. The genuine Bundeswehr Parka was worn at least until the middle of the 1990ies. When I served with the Bundesluftwaffe (the Federal German Air Force) in 1994 and 1995, i was issued that item. And i managed to keep it in my possesion after the end of my service. I still have it today. Friendly greetings from Germany, Stefan

      I second that, I bought one fairly recently on my birthday last year, I went to Iornbridge last year and to an antiques store just below the bridge itself. And purchased an early 90s Bundeswehr parka, with 1991 on the tag, on the wool liner and inside the parka itself. So the Bundeswehr were probably issuing from the start of 1990 till the fall of the Berlin wall and after. As on the Surplus, market their very common and but very desireable especially in larger sizes too.

    Just a thought. In regards to OG 107 and Jungle Fatigues mixes...I can't help but wonder if you could be confusing the Jungle fatigue trousers with The OD field Pants?? The look very similar from a distance, and i can't imagine US GIs wearing OG 107 Shirts in combination with Jungle fatigue trousers. Ive never seen it before. Just my thoughts on the subject.

    • @RMmilitarymiscellany
      @RMmilitarymiscellany Месяц назад

      It's possible but not very likely, in my opinion. Firstly, it's very obvious from some of the photos shown that tropical combat jackets were worn with the standard OG-107 stateen trousers in some instances so it's not surprising thot think that the reverse combination would also occur. Going into this a bit deeper, the M-1951 field trousers weren't issued in country as far as I am aware. This makes sense given that the M-1951 field trousers are really part of the US cold weather uniform of the time, it's therefore logical to conclude that trousers shown in the photos are theatre appropriate tropical combat trousers. In addition, where the shirts are tucked in the photos show no evidence of the upper angle pocket flaps present on the M-1951 field trousers.

    Most of the Iraqi soldiers had no intention to fight. They surrendered at the first sign of resistance. The "4th largest military" was also a misnomer. Iraq had a lot of ghost soldiers, and the "soldiers" they had, fired 5-10 rounds in training. Remember, even in it’s absolute peak capability (early Iran-Iraq war era) Iraqi army would lose battles regularly against sanction riddled Iran. They had no chance against the coalition.

    Lafuma produced a rucksack for the french in the 1950's used in the indochina war. It had an X frame, with two large outside pockets, it was this pack, made of canvas and leather, combined w some coveted features of the Communist rucksacks, and M1910 grommet attachment points along w new 1956 US equipment that contributed to the ARVN rucksack, which combined with the US mountain pack lead to the development of the lightweight rucksack and the Jungle rucksack which retained the X frame from its original French design made by Lafuma.

    Interesting to see the similarities between the Iraqi army and the Argentine one ten years earlier. The look in the helmet and big parka, the fact they both invaded their neighbours quickly and easily but were later swiftly removed by force.

    • @cattledog901
      @cattledog901 2 месяца назад

      The Argentines didn't get their butt's "royally kicked" at all like the Iraqis did in the Gulf War. For the losses they sustained, they inflicted reasonably heavy casualties on the British including sinking 2 destroyers, 2 frigates, and destroying 10 fighters and 24 helicopters. That campaign was not some cake walk for the British. Do you even know what you are talking about?

    • @orangealiens8201

      @@cattledog901 “do you even know what you are talking about” well bruh I could ask you the same question. I mean the Argentines are fighting in their own back yard, they’ve got most of their Air Force and Navy online (apart from the guys watching Chile), and yeah sure they inflict some material losses on the Brits but in return they walk over a mountain range, kick you out, and sink your flagship in the process. I certainly think that even with the casualties the UK won handily.

    • @cattledog901
      @cattledog901 2 месяца назад

      @@orangealiens8201 No one said the British didn't win genius. I said it wasn't a "royal butt kicking" like you claimed it was. The British suffered 255 dead, Argentina 649. Thats no where near some easy cake walk for the British and much more than some "material losses". In the Gulf War the coalition suffered 292 killed and the Iraqis somewhere between 30k to 50k killed. Saying both those campaigns were similar "royal butt kickings" is absurd and shows you have no idea what you are talking about.

      @@orangealiens8201 I mean no one anywhere not even the British themselves claim the Falklands campaign was a "royal butt kicking". You could watch the lowest level most mainstream documentary about the war and it will show the British took their fair share of punches and casualties in the process. The fact you are ignorant to that is clear evidence you aren't read on the subject in the slightest, you don't even know the basics. Maybe don't open your mouth when you don't know what your talking about and you won't have to get called out.
