The downfall of "You" was that instead of Joe being the likeable stalker/killer character and us looking forward to his next adventure, they tried to insert Joe's wife (Love) into his role and tried to girl boss their way through the story because the writers thought ---> "It's THE WOMANS TURN NOW to SHOW EVERYONE HOW DANGEROUS SHE IS" The show wasn't made from a female aggressor's perspective. It became that for NO reason because Joe's timeline wasn't even complete yet. It was just coming to fruition. It was solely made from a stealthy male's perspective who is excellent at blending in, and we wanted that to stay consistent since the 1st season was fucking amazing. The love triangle of Joe, the neighbor's son, and Love was just pure stupidity wrapped in idiocy. We don't need to see that development when you haven't fulfilled the main requirements. This is a common theme in Marvel where the men are pursuing their comic storylines as they should be doing and certain female characters get inserted in the middle of everything with ALL the possible powers and they just breeze through the antagonists without any development. Mrs. Marvel being a chief example of this

I would guess netflix wanted him to continue but he really should have pushed out some marketing trailer for black mirror red and not try to sneak it in?! Horrors of technology and horror is a hella nice slogan. Mazy day really, you cant have her without any supernatural shown show her suddenly as werewolf?! more demon?

The first one was a fresh take on spy action, but its glaring faults like emptiness and casual sexism got inescapable with the sequels. They should have left at the highest point, not drag it. Love your video essays!

Love this show, the writing is so witty and fun. Keri Russel's fortunate to be in both The Americans and this. The Wylers' relationship is worth analyzing all on its own.

1. It has Keri Russell in it 2. West wing writer 3. Not enough seasons yet. When it has 5 or 6 seasons I will check it out. Not going to waste my time and get invested just for it to be cancelled.

I watched this for the first time when it was 5 seasons long, loved the first three seasons thought the last 2 were ok at best. I said at the time that I wished it ended after season 3. I still think that’s true because the story would’ve been 10x better. But the ending on season 5 pmo so bad that I didn’t watch any seasons after until now. And I at least realize that season 6,7, and 8, while not stacking up to the original seasons, are still a pretty good show, (season 8 was actually really good imo). However I think season 7 proves why elite doesn’t work without flash forwards, I was not even thinking a crime would happen until the last episode. But after seasons 1-3, elite isn’t elite, it’s an entirely different show with lazy writing. It seems this show only added seasons for money and it shows. The moment after Lu left the show crumbled. I’ll always love Elite, but this show proves that only renewing a show for money and lazy writing can kill even the best of stories. Loved Isa though, her character was cool after season 5. But why’d they get rid of Didác and Rocio with no explanation, that pmo. And now I’ve realized I wrote 13,000 paragraphs of ranting but I swear if I don’t write it in this comment I will crash out at someone. TLDR: Elite really dropped off after seasons 1-3

I loved season 1, but I had my difficulties with season 2. Primarily because I had the feeling that in season 2 Kate Wyler seemed to have degressed into teenager behaviour. Which was confusing to me as the seasons spanned a period of just a few weeks.

I haven’t watched season 2 yet. But I loved season 1, especially the soundtracks.

I love this series. I can’t wait for the next season!!

Season 1 is Art. Season 2 have the best intro and best ending. Season 3 have a great first half. Season 4 is an overall improvement from season 3.

The one thing I will give to this show is that it would’ve been so easy for them to blame the attack on the Iranian “Arab terrorists” just like every other political thriller ever. But thankfully, they didn’t. They actually wrote a more realistic and interesting story

Probably very niche, but my biggest issue with the show, is that it's written to mimic the pacing and energy of the West Wing. I stopped midway through episode one to look at the writing team because it gave such West Wing vibes, and was not surprised at all to see the showrunner was a former writer on the West Wing. That "goodness of liberalism will prevail" nostalgic energy underscores the whole show, and doesn't land the same way it did 25 years ago. In the modern political landscape, it really broke the immersion of the show for me.

I agree with you, the plot has gone a bit all over the place and I think the original characters still being in the story is the writers attempt to discuss things with characters the audience is already attached to. Totally agree about the butterfly effect and how the reality they live in would be vastly different from ours. I think they’re struggling to discuss world events (which is interesting) but their reach is going so far and wide that it’s becoming a bit far fetched and difficult to believe. Don’t get me wrong though I will probably continue to watch it as I’m attached to the characters now but I think it’s more for that reason than the plot.

I’m glad someone else felt like the first 2 seasons were really just one long story. I watched seasons 1 & 2 all in one weekend so I assumed that was why I had the that feeling. But the season 2 finale really opened up a whole new world of possibilities for the series.

I will be saving this video for later because I still haven't watched the show (though I added it to my list and preemptively gave it 👍🏻👍🏻 on Netflix just in case they're hungry for engagement and validation, as always 😮‍💨) just because the premise sounded amazing to me.

I feel the story of this show -- though at points a bit far-fetched and hard to believe -- is overall very good. What's holding is back, is the poor character writing. It basically inserts a lot of low quality "soapy" drama into what could have been a great show. This makes it hard to take the characters seriously and also makes them feel incoherent at times -- especially across seasons. Moreover, most characters aren't very likeable. Some character are somewhat likeable at one point of another, but then they do really weird and antipathetic things, and you start disliking them. Then they try to write a redemption arc for some of the character, but most of those just fall flat on their face. You don't watch this show for the character, you watch this show despite of the characters.

I've just rewatched seasong 3 and 4, after remembering being very disappointed with s5 and s6, and my current hot take is that the show has a Diana problem. Lots of episodes center around a character feeling unhappy, lost or mistreated (Margaret, Philip, Charles...), but they usually centre around something else (like the whole Margaret & Townsend drama in S1 which also says a lot about Elizabeth's struggle balancing between her roles as sister and queen; Philip's existential crisis in s3 which is framed by the moon landing, or Charles' in the same season which is also about Wales and the struggle of the Welsh). The first episode about Diana being unhappy, lost and mistreated; S04E03 Fairytale, is just about that. There's no juxtaposition with anything larger, and Diana is never used as a metaphor as most other characters are. What I really liked about The Crown is that it's not actually about the royals as people, but uses them to tell a story about Britain, politics and history. But it seems like they can't do that about Diana, as she's somehow forever frozen in the narrative about the tragic beautiful people's princess who died too young. And the show is... fascinated... by her in a way that it doesn't seem to be by any other member of the royal family. It lost me in S6 when four whole episodes were dedicated to the last few weeks of Diana's life - without trying to tell any other or bigger story alongside it. No other character gets that kind of screentime and focus on themselves. And it's not like there aren't a million other retellings of exactly that same story. I'm sorry The Crown went that same route instead of actually showing us some interesting British politics from the early 90s.

A good chunk of writing by netflix sounds like a bunch of 8th graders who are squeezing in cringy sexual jokes and unnecessary nudity. I started watching some of the Love Death and Robots stuff and the nudity is ridiculous, and so are the sexual jokes.

The Margo and Josh, and Julia and Penny story lines were hands down my least favorite. All that build up of two great female characters, only to throw them away to please men. Both men they were never interested in at all. Like what?

Hot take I thought season 4 was the best it really had me at the end of my seat with each episode it reminded me a bit of when Hannibal (in the show Hannibal) fleed the country and we got a new fresh setting

Tv shows are suspension of belief. It's not a documentary. Downfalll? It's just another pretty good show. To conjur up a video just for sake of making a video. Your criticisms may have been somewhat correct but to say it's a Downfall? A Downfall is Game of Thrones. Being a ten and then suddenly a two. This show has been consistent with each season being a 7, 8,7,6 Not a Downfall. It's not breaking Bad.

I thunk you got it the other. It’s not that the showrunners assume they don’t need to tell us who Andrew or Edward are, it’s that everyone knows who they are, and there’s no point in overcomplicating the writing

Was a great concept....season 1 set up for great follow ons....but was probably 4-5 episodes too long for season 2 and 3......fell into the now standatd DEI trap.....if they stuck to the core exploration alternative history & technology timeline goal would have been much better. Too many rediculous social issues to fix, too many woman and gay and race based story lines...guaranteed women aren't watching in the numbers male sci fi viewers are, who want to watch..... thank goodness for fast forward button. Molly character should have finished season 2....its a stretch even for sci fi fans. NASA catching up to mars...so rediculous wasnt funny....started tunning out then.....seaon 4 seems like a fail from the start.
