Absolutely I don’t think anyone expected it to be as good as it is…great actually. It’s emotional, comedic, and very well acted. I’m so happy it’s not a cheesy rom com. Most importantly, the movie has crossed over to a mainstream audience. There’s a lot of pressure for a sequel now.
They better do come actually with a good plot of new conflict, which shouldnt be hard. But if they keep it being an ambitious earnest romcom, yes. Meet the other parents?
As another person who generally hates romcoms, I really enjoyed this one. My only issue with it is that it was very fast paced. That's also coming from someone who cannot watch something slow paced. From what I've seen, it seems like it is a lot fleshed out in the books but they had to condense it down. Apparently, it was originally 3 hr long so I wish we get to see that one day
I agree with your initial comment. While the book makes the "enemies to friends" the basis for what follows, the film alludes to it as it progresses which does detract from it. I do also think that the "hate" aspect is trivilaised in the film as the extent that Alex wanted Henry to be the one that "showed him the ropes" at their first meeting is so downplayed in the movie that as you comment it seems rather trivial. Its not trivial. Alex really took Henry's dismissal of his situation to heart. But for all that I did like the movie, loved the main characters and look forward to their next work.
I loved the movie and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. But to address your "meh" points, the book, by virtue of being a book, can take it's sweet time telling a story. A two hour movie doesn't have that luxury. I think it would have worked much better as a two-part mini series allowing it to address your pacing issues.
The thing is enemies to lovers is not enemies to lovers apearently, its starcrossed lovers. Seriously them being annoyed isnt evenmies, enemies should at least be they are at least from fractions who pose a real thrat to each other, hell i count romeo and juliet as, like their families do try regulary For some goidforsaken reason there used enemies to lovers , is starcrossed lovers that hasnt them to be from enemy fractions. or beware, one having tried to go after anothers life at least somewhat, or their fraction. Nor underworld is an enemy to lovers, if, its more she hates werewolves and he becomes one and, on her side it is ok.
For the enemy banter scenes they have to cut a lot of it out I heard that if the movie doesn't cut down on time the full movie is written to be about 3hours long movie
i actually read the book! in my opinion, the book is (like in most cases) better than the movie, i think it really deepens the relationship between Alex and Henry more and the “hatred” part is also longer (while i do agree with you that in the movie its supposed to be hate but never really portrayed as such). Love your vids man! also, i was genuinely shocked when i saw your sub count, like really you deserve way way more!!
I LOVE this film. Watched it 2x, and will watch it again and . . . Your review is okay, but fails to realize Alex and Henry really do not "hate" each other. Initially they are friendly enemy combatants. Perhaps you are "over analyzing" it?
That is exactly what I say though in the video - that they don't actually hate one another [the whole "The Meh" section is dedicated to this]. Hence why calling the movie enemies-to-lovers story is somewhat of a stretch.
I do like this slew of modern queer movies that are just… pleasant, have happy and accepting resolutions. Honestly, even as a millennial, that was just unheard of for me. Maybe in another realm this could be considered “Just another Hallmark movie” - but to me it was a very nice, organic, simple love story with the absurd premise of a prince and president’s son going from making assumptions of one another to fostering a connection that a lot of us exhausted homos could only dream of. The vast majority of queer film as I grew up was… pretty bleak by comparison: it was a reflection of the landscape for us, I guess. I happened to love the palace scene with the speeches and the protests. I want that dream, I can be a realist and an idealist at the same time. But yeah, the advertising campaign for this was a tad one-note, I’m assuming they were afraid the nuanced bits (because, like you said, they surprisingly had deep, thoughtful writing) would be lost on the audience.

It should have been a series.

Agreed, and I also hope they release that longer cut
i reco u read the book! ^-^

I honestly liked the movie and I'm considering rewatching it
you definitely should, I know I will
I really hope the longer version will be released!
It was fun and I did check the time stamp when they got together coz it was so fast

As someone on Tumblr once said "enemies to lovers" only works when there's attempts on each other's lives

It is good enough for a sequel, but it probably won't be as good.
0:40 not the feet 😩
