    it’s annoying to see people say this is a lower version of elite when nobody is mentioning that elite is a ‘spain’ish version of america’s gossip girl which was also a carbon copy of mexico’s rebelde. like they say in advertising, “there’s nothing new under the sun”.

    17:51 about using "Dude" line... It's actually pretty accurate to the environment it takes place. People actually talk like that. Also tiktok being cringe was the point 👉 I've seen even cringe tiktoks than that! It's pretty accurate depiction TBH

    Thank you for this review as I'm a huge Elite fan and was wondering whether to watch Class. I've seen all of your reviews and agree with you almost 99% on everything you say. I just wanted to point out something that struck me here, when you explained about the character of Marina in Class having better justification for her actions throughout the series, unlike in the original. Actually, Marina was very well explained and justified in the original as well. That was the point of the whole first season - to slowly uncover the reasons behind her murder and the type of person she was. That's why Marina is the biggest contradiction as she is both sweet and innocent, but later turns out to be manipulative and cunning. In each episode, layer after layer is peeled off to learn why she is like that and to understand the sequence of events that lead to her actions.
    Her parents might not be outwardly abusive but it's clear that she's grown to despise the world of the rich and how it works. She hates that her parents are capable of crime (her father's construction company) and then always get away with it. Marina feels like a failure because she is the real daughter but Guzman is much more what her parents expect from their offspring. She's repeatedly shown failing or having failed her parents by her own volition and choices in the past. She's HIV positive and her diagnose might hold her from pursuing her true passion - dance. And she did it herself. It becomes clear that Marina feels like she's hit rock bottom. That's why she's so drawn to Nano, instead of Samu. Nano is just as much of a failure as she is, they're unintentional soulmates.
    Also, in one of the videos Samu did on her for the school project, I think she mentioned about wanting to do investigative journalism. She clearly has a moral compass and wants to bring positive change to the world. At the same time she resents her parents for crossing the line, breaching the law to help their business partners or themselves. Part of the reason why she was such a bitch to Samu, was because she realized how innocent Samu is, how trustful and clean his heart is, and she knew he was better off hating her, instead of loving her. Despite how troubled she is, if she didn't love her family, she would have gone with the watch blackmail. Her hesitation made the plan impossible and terminated the opportunity of running away with Nano.
    I'm sorry for the long comment. I'll be really glad if you manage to talk a little about the lgbt representation in the second part for Class, because it is such an integral part of the original series and I know the creators of Class were probably very limited in what they can/can not show.

    27:30 The "You" example is not the same. The guy in You is literally a villain, so nobody cares that he's not relatable, just entertaining to see what he'll do next. With these students, they are not evil, as a teenager is almost never going to be just some evil person doing psychopathic things. That's why Polo killing Marina worked so well, because he is not a evil villain, but is someone who lost their cool after all the bad things that kept happening to them and snapped. Not an excuse for murder, but at least you can see how it got to that point. People can actually relate to Polo despite him killing someone, because although we might not be murderers, we have certainly gone through similar situations in life with either bullying or social media causing a stir, etc. Joe from You is a grown man who is literally just a psychopath. Him not being relatable is fine, because majority of people are not psychopaths.

      You can relate to a rich person. Just because they have money doesn't mean they aren't a human being who is decent. It doesn't make sense to relate to a serial killer though.

    • @andrewreviews
      @andrewreviews  Год назад +1

      I understand what you mean, and I agree. The context I used the example in doesn't say anything contrary to what you suggest. I said that coming after this show for not being relatable was not very valid, and that Joe Goldberg is not relatable, and the show is perfectly engaging as is. Class, too, is to a certain level engaging without the need for it to be relatable. As for whether rich kids are relatable - some can be, it depends on portrayal. If you relate to rich kids as portrayed in Class - kids who consistently act in ways that are not entirely moral and commit some questionable choices - then you do you. Not saying there is no one to relate to in Class - Suhani is rich, yet she is very relatable in her struggles. But I was not necessarily referring to her, as she is only a part of a larger cast of characters. As for you bringing up Polo - he was in Elite, the subject matter here is Class. They are two different beasts. I do intend on discussing his character further in Part 2.

    Yay, I was so excited for this video, thank you for reviewing Class! I liked the show ok, but didn't love it as much as s1-3 of Elite. I did love the cinematography- as you mentioned, the rich kids' houses look gorgeous and the establishing shots of Delhi are a thing of beauty.
    Trying to structure my reply here as well as your videos, haha. I AGREE with you that the bullying on Class felt more intense. The scene of the three scholarship students introducing themselves at school alone... definitely worse than what the rich kids did in Elite. I also liked the inclusion of social media here as a BIG factor! Tho I actually thought it was most interestingly used with Yashika's character. IMO she clearly does all her vapid Insta lives and constantly posts because she doesn't have anyone she can connect with irl. There's a cool scene in ep3 where Veer brushes her off on the phone while he's looking for Suhani, and after that, she posts a pic of the two of them, captioned with "My number one always". She uses social media to reassure herself and to feel less alone (and for horrible cyberbullying, but that's another matter -.-). Also Saba and her hijab- sigh. That really was... nothing. The way Elite handled it, esp in s2, was questionable, but at least Nadia got that really emotional scene where she watches herself in the mirror as she takes it off.
    I DISAGREE with you on two main things. One is the Suhani/Veer constellation. You mention that Suhani is treated horribly by her whole family, which is true. They're all awful to her, and all seem to actively dislike her. The way I understood it, you liked that because it gave her more of a reason to rebel than Marina, who had a loving relationship with Guzman and a mom who loved her, too, even though she didn't understand her (not sure abt her dad...). I didn't like it, because IMO it takes away from the emotional impact of her death. Guzman's grief was a powerful factor at the end of s1 and in s2. I didn't get that from Veer at all and don't see how it would be believable in a potential s2. The other character I view differently is Yashika. You're right in that they cut the two most emotional moments Lu had in s1, the one you showed and the one where she saves Guzman's life on the bridge. But Class tries to give Yashika more depth before this. I actually thought you were going to touch on that, because you have her walking in her house (?) when your "Additions" slogan comes up, haha. They provide more family background on her than we got for Lu in s1. She basically gets Lu's s3 storyline early- both parents abandoned her for a new family or work abroad and aren't even paying the staff anymore. It seems she isn't getting money from them anymore either. That's why she's so desperate to win the Hampton Gold - she actually needs it to study abroad, like Lu did the Columbia scholarship in s3. I found that really interesting (not to say devastating- who leaves their 18-yr-old to her own devices and straight up moves to another country? These ppl really shouldn't have had kids in the first place).
    SO SORRY for the rant- I have feelings, bitch :D Looking forward to your part 2!

    29:49 I think you may have misunderstood this. I'm pretty sure he means "let's talk later" as it is translated not in like a let's set up a time and place, but instead more like a "see you around" type of way.

    I think the hijab topic is a lot more complex and is not as straight forward. I didnt find nadia's storyline for example, as it shows dual form of oppression that women face as theyre pressured into upholding as a form of religious identity that men do not have to. It made sense for her character to move away from wearing hijab as she decided to give up on being that perfect daughter.
    For saba, i still have to watch her story but we face different struggles than diaspora. And it is possible that wearing and taking off hijab is not that big a deal fot saba as it may have been for nadia. Altho i would say that the situation in india, as muslim are a minority despite being native there. But in iran protests for example, women burned their hijab and hair and it was a protest against iranian regime not a denouncement of them being muslim and women. Muslim women do want the right to choose to their own clothing and body that doesnt exist. I do hope they explore it in saba's case as well as the opportunity of such discussion is still possible. But it is also more of a choice and a selective thing in pak and india where ppl might choose to wear hijab in certain places and not in others against family wishes or even b/c of them. Not like Nadia's family's strict background. It would lead more to women's rights and less about religious representation.

    Two things really stood out to me:
    1.) The killer being the same as the OG. Don't get me wrong, I could watch Indian Polo's actor do NSFW stuff till the day I die, I mean, he is so hot he could beat me into a bloody pulp with a trophy and I would still say thank you, but I just felt this could be an alternative universe and we could explore what if the killer was different in this timeline? I suppose they plan on keeping Indian Christian around for season 2 (the OG left because the actor himself wanted to leave and I just hope Indian Christian's actor doesn't wanna leave), so that could alter the course of events in season 2. I did like how they actually showed them hiding the murder weapon and not just talking about it, this way, when Indian Cayetana goes swimming in season 2 in that lake to go look for the trophy, it would make a lot more sense, since it is a smaller lake to being with, it is actually more like a little pond, rather than a whole-ass lake.
    2.) Indian Polo's bisexuality and all the bullying he got for it just don't really make sense to me because the rich kids ARE using gay culture slang in their speech, especially online. I mean I remember them using the nailpolish emoji and stuff like slay etc. So it made zero sense to me why they would be biphobic, IF the slang they use was clearly inspired by gay culture.

    • @gashinadiamond3146
      @gashinadiamond3146 Год назад +6

      it's to show the double standards. even in the west, queer slang and culture is adopted by the general youth due to that being prevalent online so it gets translated into young indian people too, however many of them don't even know the queer origins of the slang and even if they do, they use the slang yet still discriminate when actual queerness is brought up. it's a sad reality.

    • @andrewreviews
      @andrewreviews  Год назад +2

      On your first point - I definitely agree, and I think that the killer should have been Yashika as she made far more sense to be the killer. I really don't understand why they set up Yashika that way [essentially borrowing Lu's storyline from Season 3 where she actually is a killer], as they didn't really do much with that. On paper, it is definitely an interesting idea to try and combine these two strong motivations of Polo and Lu in a single season, but that was, imo, wasted. I will elaborate on that in Part 2 tho.
      On your second point - totally! It's especially weird considering that rich people even irl have done weird stuff [since, you know, MONEY], so how do they even have the grounds to bully a teen for his sexuality? That might come down to cultural differences though

    • @gashinadiamond3146
      @gashinadiamond3146 Год назад +5

      @@andrewreviews i think it's bc it's still not really normalized to be queer in india? it's still a deeply heteronormative and patriarchal society and that's also shown in how they changed the indian ander's parents' reaction to his homosexuality from the original where they, for the most part had no issue with it. before beginning the show i wondered if they'd keep that part in class bc it would be, uncommon at the least, for parents to react like that but they changed it.

    • @carlableiker3752
      @carlableiker3752 Год назад

      I also really wanted them to switch up who the killer is. But before s2 was confirmed, the director said that for a potential s2, he would change it up and move away from the original, have Class strike out completely on its own. So I'm curious for that! (Though it would mean no Caye-equivalent going into that pond for the trophy, I'd assume)

    The caste system of India has been abolished since independence in 1947, since then reservations have been given to all lower caste citizens so that they get enough opportunities to decrease social divide and uplift themselves.
