Self protection lol!? Madrid is the safest city I know. There's a cop in every freaking corner, it's literally swarming with Police and Guardia Civil. There are no major gangs anymore: there are no more skinhead gangs, Latin gangs got crushed by the Police, getting mugged it's nigh-impossible in even the worst hoods mostly because everything is crowded and everything is lighted, the odds of blood crimes are ridiculously minimal, the worst thing that can happen to you is getting scammed or pickpocketed, but even that happens rarely. Lately, especially, it's been the calmest, most crimeless and peaceful I'ver seen this city ever.

Spain and France were allies during the whole XVIII century, then came Napoleon and with his troops already in the country being invited in with the excuse of going to Portugal he betrayed Spain exiling the spanish royal family and putting his brother in the throne. When the spaniards revolted a bloody war ensued. Spaniards who know history will never forget that betrayal and the spaniards who don't hate them anyways as an inherited attitude from those who do.

My next door neighbor is an elderly lady. Another neighbor doesn't like her who knows why, and calls her the French woman as an insult, because she lived in France for 6 years... and in Italy for 37. What shocked me the most as a girl from the US living in Spain was how unfaithful Spanish women are and I don't think I'm particularly bigoted either... They actually have a joke among themselves that's like "blowing isn't cheating" 😵‍💫

As a Dutchman I can tell you that the French aren’t popular in the Netherlands either. Not many dutch have problems with the Spanish. Even though the beat us in the finals in 2012!!

Basically, they have done many shitty things to spaniards. Just a few examples: Spaniards used to migrate to france in the 60s and 70s and they were treated like sh*t. Even the term they use to refer to maids now in France is a racist slur against spaniards, i.e. conchitas. They also used to assault our lorry drivers and destroy our agricultural products when they crossed the border because they didn't want our products to compete with theirs. Recently, government officials also tried to spread fake news re. our agriculture saying we use toxic components and our products are tasteless, which is not true. They also welcomed ETA terrorists to hide in france for decades and refused to cooperate with our police. This resulted in hundreds of murders. Only when they decided to cooperate a thousand murders later we got to win the war against terror. Btw, there's never been any evidence re. our sports players doping. They're just bad losers. Tbh, I've encountered nothing but kindness from french people but i see why some people are still pissed by this.

The only time you do see that in Spain is from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, but it is my favorite distinction from southern European countries vs. US.

Here in Spain, the only people who go out in pajamas, a bathrobe or slippers are gypsy women when they go to buy bread or something. Why? Because they don't care about anything and if you dare to tell them something they'll put a gypsy curse on you. 😅😂

“Claro” means “of course”….not “all clear”….”está bien” can be used in a lot of ways like saying ok to something or more commonly used as “it’s ok” ex: would you like to come in? No, it’s ok.

I’m a Spaniard from Malaga but lived in the US from 7-11yo, and then 29-35yo. What my friends in the US mostly are in shock with is the healthcare and time off companies give you.
