Sim Racing to Real Racing with ERA Championship (Part 2)
I got the opportunity to test the ERA all electric F110E single seat race car last weekend!
I had previously built this car in Assetto Corsa because I was so excited by the prospect of an electric single seater racing car! I spent hundreds of laps throwing it around Circuit Zolder in virtual reality, but nothing had prepared me for doing it for real!
During the week of 28th August, the ERA championship in collaboration with Software AG, the title sponsor of the series, held a hackathon at their workshop in Belgium. I was invited to take part in the event which had a focus on building never before seen technology into a racing series.
This is what happened at the circuit on day 5!
Huge thanks ...

Have driven to Hungary two years ago in a model 3 and last & this year in a model Y. Love the drive in the Tesla….just a bit more planning and always useful to get a hotel that has or is close to a supercharger to set off the next day with a full charge. The St Quentin charger has also been a regular of mine, along with the one in Metz!

It’s still in the garage as I’m not happy with the mounting system. It’s not safe at all. Especially around cars, dogs and children. I think I have a solution but I need to swap out the broken atlas 4 still. At least I know my tower is safe up to 80mph winds.

*All practical tests show that small wind turbines hardly generate any electricity! And only at very high costs!* Because there is hardly any wind close to the ground. It is also extremely gusty, which usually reduces the service life very much. Only if you need to be self-sufficient from the power grid, you should install the largest possible wind turbine on a high tower for the winter. *With solar panels, on the other hand, you can reliably generate green electricity for 25 years at approx. 3-10 cent/kWh!*

stuck mine on a scaffold pole with 4 cables coming off. I to was sent a Delta grid tie inverter along with the 5kw turbine. I've never ever no matter what I tried managed to get no more than just over 100 watts connecting it to 3 chinese 2000w grid tie inverters. tried using it with the Delta 5kw inverter grid tied but all it did was trip the electrics everytime. I gave up. Tesup lied & still continue to lie. Wasted my money. be interesting to see if you get yours working. I'm told by Delta that the Tesup 5kw is not compatible as it's for solar only. I stuck solar panels on it & the Delta works great.

@robertgoy9367 that’s the biggest issue, they mount they ship with the Magnum 5 that I was going to use is absolutely NOT safe or fit for purpose. I think I’m going to use an aluminium scaffold pole (which I have) and some steel cables to the 3 points or the tower to try to triangulate it as best I can. Fixing the pole to the tower shouldn’t be too bad either, but it’s a long job to switch out the atlas 4.0, I haven’t had time yet.

I just did another trip to Venice this summer, and we also went home via cologne. Another fantastic road trip, all you need is A Better Route Planner app and the Tesla in car navigation and it makes everything super easy. Use ABRP to set the level of charge you want at your destination then navigate in the car to the last supercharger stop ABRP recommends and that’s it. Super simple and reliable. I would highly recommend the Telepass from Ulys too, makes toll roads a breeze and you can pay for car parking in Italy or France with it too. Such a huge quality of life improvement than trying to take toll tickets from the wrong side of the car if you are in a RHD vehicle.

I made it myself using a custom sized 8mm plate of aluminium & 9mm marine ply for the base plate under the turbine & F33 stage truss for the tower. F33 stage truss is available, look for brand “global truss f33”. I minimised the number of joints using 2.5m sections and a 1m base section with hinge joints. The base is the heavy duty 800mm square f33 steel base plate. I think all in the tower cost about ~£2900 excluding the concrete, but with fixings, steel cables and other fixings.

    • @sustainableorange

The biggest issue with the hybrid is the atlas output is only 120vac, the magnum is 220vac so the magnum will start generating sooner and more consistently. It also has a bigger swept area. The build quality has not been good on my magnum, atlas 4 or charge controller unfortunately. I’ve had issues with them all.

Sorry for so many questions. So let me get this straight, I need to buy the turbine the charge controller and the inverter from tessup. Will that be sufficient to make it work with the solar system I'm planning? Obviously will be hooked to the grid.
