Test everything. Hold on to the good.” So, whether it is a “word from the Lord” or a supposed prophecy, our response should be the same. Compare what is said to what the Word of God says. @@ShowChrist1 Thanks for the response. First off, I agree with your last paragraph but I do not know how much it can contribute to the conversation. But unfortunately, in the rest of the other passages, you were unable to show a bible reference for your conclusion that there are no prophets or apostles in the present generation. The very claim that "we dont need prophets" reflects that you dont want to accept the continuation of the office of Prophets You made a big jump and made many assumptions to walk all of us to the conclusions you want to believe. 1. Are apostles and Prophets there just to be the foundation? You assume it so. If thats the case why would Paul consider Junias to be a notable apostle, Barnabas and Simeon to be teachers and prophets, and Luke call Agabus a prophets? What foundation did Junias, Barnabas, Simeon, Agabus lay? 2. You defined the gift of prophecy. But is it an accurate and comprehensive definition? What is the evidence for you to conclude that the prophets in the NT acted as a medium to "fill the gap"? Any bible reference? Why can't such prophets like Agabus continue to prophesy now a days? Perhaps your theological bias doesn't allow it. After all I dont see the gospel in hearing how paul would be arrested.I don't understand how Agabus "filled the gap" here by prophesying it. 3. We both agree that God can use a person to reveal something supernaturally. But you do not wish to call him a prophet. That seems to contradict the example you showed - Agabus. After all, I have not seen Agabus supernaturally preaching the gospel but supernaturally prophesying how Paul would be arrested and how famine would come. He did not lay any foundation, yet he was called Prophet. If Paul is happy to recognise Agabus a prophet, what is stopping you to call others who have the same office Prophets? You made a lot of inferences to come to the conclusion you are at now. This in no way proves that there are no apostles of prophets today. You may ask me to show one if such people really exist. But I don't have to as the bible doesnt say it. Finally...1 Cor 12 - Now *you* are *the body of Christ*, and *individual members* of it. 28 And God has *appointed these* in the church: first *apostles*, second *prophets*, third *teachers*, next *miracles*, then *gifts of healing*, *helping*, *leading*, various *kinds of tongues*. 29 Are all *apostles*? Are all *prophets*? Are all *teachers*? Do all do miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But desire the greater gifts. This verse put Apostles, Prophets and Teachers collectively. I dont understand why Apostles and Prophets need to get extinct and Teachers to exist. I don't see a seperation you try to bring. If you say apostles and propets ceased, you need to say teachers also ceas as God appointed them together for the Church. Just because you dont feel their need, doesnt mean that God would think the same.
