It's encouraging to see small startup thrive and grow while having another job. Did you choose Etsy over Shopify because of the marketing aspect? It seems once you build your brand and audience that Shopify may be a good transition. Would love to hear your thoughts.

I put the pegboard bin file in my cart, but I forgot to check out before midnight. When I checked out at 12:30 they were five dollars. That’s OK, I still love them even at five dollars.

I always feel like Etsy and eBay are like doing business with the mob. I figure $.03 per gram for materials and electrical costs. Eventually that cover most everything miscellaneous.

$4.8k in profit on 370 sales. I made $1k more than that on only 71 sales, I also didn't spend a penny in ads either and ran no sales. Good thing my 3d printed products are original and have literally no competition.

HI, I have an A1 Mini and wondering what settings you use for quality prints? Like roughly, .4mm nozzle and standard PLA settings? Or do you use .2mm fine nozzle and then fine tune the slicer at all? Thanks

Total steal, I’ve been watching your videos and have rethought what I want, I swapped to part time at my day job and have been spending all of my free time learning how to 3D model as I want to make my own models, 3D printing isn’t hard but I can say it’s a big learning curve if you know absolutely nothings

These are very smart words about being self employed in general. In worst case scenario, you'll be just trading one difficult job into another. I've been running similar style business as yours since 2016 now, and my biggest struggle has been time management. I'm estimating about 60 or 70% of my daily WORK time is wasted somewhere else, such as taking care of the kid (who is ten now, but still needs quite a lot of adult presence due to his medical challenges), taking care of the household or apparently providing elderly relatives constant helpdesk service with their consumer electronics. And since my business would require me to BE in my workshop, doing my work, the income through my business is currently very low. In my country, there's also a lot of takers for that meagre cake, for example various business insurances chew about 300eur per month alone. It would be easier to run a service based business, sure, such as web designing. I could do the design work in the night once the kid's asleep and a single commission could easily fetch me four-digit figure of income. And that would be a major step up from the current money I'm dealing with. But the problem is, I don't know web designing, nor do I like it. I like making stuff in my garage workshop, stuff which bring actual joy and happiness to their new owners.

Wow. Been watching your videos this last week. You mentioned you had a couple hundred subs in this video and I see today you’re over 5k subscribers. Congratulations! I retired 3 yrs ago but since have been consult in IT since. Last year I got the 3d printing bug out of a personal need for a specific widget I needed. I decided to add 3d design/manufacturing as an arm of my business. I have a specific niche I’m focused on and a few prototypes, but have not yet begun selling. Thanks for the practical advice and encouragement.

I have never owned a 3D printer as of 1 week ago. Since then, I purchased a P1S Combo, A1, and two A1 Mini's. I have multiple CNCs and Lasers and have been selling items on eBay for 10yrs. I plan on adding to my eBay store and opening an Esty store next week. My biggest hurdle is learning CAD. Thanks for the help OffDaBench.

Another good video, Chris! You've learned a lot about the struggles of a small business owner. Hopefully, one day your business will grow to the point to give you the option to make it full time. As someone who was self-employed for over 29 years, I know it's not easy. Would I do it again? In a heartbeat!! Like several others, I ordered the STLs to help get you over the top! I think you'll make it!! :) They will make a great first, real print job once I finish setting up my 3D printer. By the way, my stepson (also named Chris) loved the DeWalt charger and battery holder (the "combo" I ordered not realizing it was a "combo" 😁) right before Christmas! Best of luck in 2025!!
