Fernandes FRT-2 (Floyd Rose History), 1982-1985
Просмотров 9892 года назад
The Fernandes FRT-2 was essentially a string through version of the Floyd Rose FRT-1 and only available in Japan from 1982-1985. It was a Fernandes design. Saddles were chrome plated brass. Although the base plate is the same as the Japanese FRT-1, this is not technically considered an official Floyd Rose product.

Vintage Floyd Rose FRT-4 Prototype Holy Grail (Just Like EVH's from 1982)
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.3 года назад
This is an ultra rare vintage Floyd Rose FRT-4 prototype with vertical fine tuners. It's essentially identical to the version Eddie Van Halen played on his Frankenstrat in the summer of 1982 (not to be confused with the production FRT-4s...which are also very rare), except for it being chrome and sustain block flattened one one side. It's an important artifact in tremolo history. MY WEBSITES: *...

15 Years of Searching: Aphex Aural Exciter Prototype (HOLY GRAIL)

The ultra rare Aphex 402 tube Aural Exciter has been found, and as of now, only three are known to exist. Once used on most major records and hits in the mid-1970s, including the most famous Fleetwood Mac "Rumours" album, this piece of important recording history has fallen into oblivion and only three of the five made have been found. Did you know Tom Anderson redrilled the Floyd Rose posts and replaced the neck on EVH's Frankenstrat in around 1985? Listen to this crazy story. The luthier whom is photographed with the guitar is Benny Rodriguez. He worked with Tom Anderson and Rand Havener during those days and also painted Eddie's TA neck headstock. www.bjrguitars.com/ MY WEBSITES: *www.vintagefloydrose.com *www.randguitars....

    I don’t see any actual tubes in this. Looks like op amps from the photos. I’m beginning to think the tube version was a lie for promotional/copyright purposes to add mystery. I’ve looked into the patent and 16v dc for the tubes makes no sense anyway unless it’s intentionally running them as a starved plate.

    • @SoundsofTime
      @SoundsofTime Месяц назад

      The tubes were in the exciter card which were labeled on the back as the unit as "410" - they are both missing on my unit and supposedly purposely taken out to prevent copying them back in the day. However, I just posted photos of one in the album I listed in the video description. The photo is at the bottom of the page with other tube card variants and shows the 410 exciter card with tubes in it. I also just posted it on the 402 page on vintageaphex.com - I was also confused by the 16v, but I guess that was the design. I guess it creates some dynamics? Not sure.

    If you're not gonna dig up Edward Van Halen's body to cut off his fingers and sew them on to your hands so you can play like Van Halen, don't bother building a guitar exactly like Eddie's if you can't play exactly like Eddie. 😅 waste of money. Just buy a Striped series EVH and be done with it.

    I have the reissue Nightswan Aztec made in Indonesia I believe. I love the guitar!! It plays great, fretwork is outstanding. I got it from a dealer who got it fully setup though, so I don’t know how it came out of the factory. I can’t wait to swap the JB for a full shred and that F1000 for an original FR. In my opinion they are a great bang for the buck but they need a professional setup.

    One of the many things Eddie was bitter about was he came up with the fine tuner idea and Floyd said,”Great idea and screw you Eddie Van Halen!” Then he got the patent behind his back according to Eddie. Ed coulda used that extra money

    I bought a beautiful white Rockinger Super Strat ("The Strat") in 1987 that was equipped with a Rockinger Tru Tune tremolo system. It was a very good and reliable system. I preferred it to the Floyd Rose, as you could adust the string action for every string separately with the Rockinger Tremolo. Maybe the Floyd Rose was better suited for 80's shredder antics, but for me as an average player, it worked really well. I found the following text on the website of the onwer of Rockinger company, Dieter Gölsdorf: "Shortly afterwards, we had our first stand at the Frankfurt Music Fair [...] Our [stand] neighbor was KRAMER-USA. Their boss, Dennis Berardi, saw our tremolo and was fascinated. Yes, the Americans were enthusiastic about our fine-tune tremolos [...]. The contract was signed in no time at all and we had to increase the production volume considerably.

    Brad Gillis says (depending on the interview) Eddie got the first, Santana or Neil Schon got second and he got the third.... it's bizarre that Eddie had so much to do with the first Floyd's then he goes over to musician who uses gotoh. I mean it's not bizarre the I did that, I went from having 3 floyd originals to 3 gotohs but it's because I got tired of losing the little brass pieces under the saddles. Nah. I'll stick with the gotohs.

      I found a former Aphex employee that has the exciter cards for the 402, but, he is holding onto them. He designed the Aphex 712 model which I sent him to repair for me. In time, I believe I will have the exciter cards, but it still needs to be repaired. It's process. In the end, it's a slowly developing story that may take time to finish. I've search almost all options for the exciter cards. This old Aphex employee is literally my only hope. The good news is, I did, in fact, find exciter cards for it. That was a miracle in itself.

    I have the new Sm1 in orange crush and the metal black. Both are Outstanding instruments. For 80s metal and hard rock these are perfect. All 5 pickup positions sound great and the coil tap also works great on 3 pickups. The floyd 1000 seems to be built well, I've had no issues in the two years ive owned both guitars. The necks have a unique feel and take some getting used to but once you do they are superb. Very balanced body and gorgeous finishes. Over all the best value i can think of. Been playing 20 years and own jacksons, gibsons, washburns, kramers, fenders, among others. I put these kramer Sm1s at the top of the list. All i did was add strap locks and adjust the height a alittle and both are stage ready. The thru neck is very stable and easy to keep in tune. Over all couldn't be happier. They need to make a metallic green next ❤
