Solo hiking Tasmania’s Three Capes Track (‘Free Capes’ track alternative) + Cape Raoul
Welcome to Tassie and the beautiful Tasman National Park!
The Three Capes walking track is apparently 48km and is typically walked from Port Arthur to Fortescue Bay over 4 days. There are fantastic facilities on this walk with modern huts and incredibly well maintained trail and lookout points. The official trail is described as being the three capes track experience not simply a walk and I believe it really would be just that - a wonderful experience and highly accessible and achievable!
In this video I invite you to join me on the ‘Free Capes’ track alternate and explore the area in a different and more budget friendly way making the track possible even if you’ve missed out on a pass bu...

Although you got to see Waterloo you unfortunately missed out on the best section, which, in my opinion , is Sealers Cove to Waterloo. You'll have to put it back in your list 😋

Thank you SO MUCH from the U.S.! I thought I would have to trade in my Hyundai Veloster for an SUV or even a Class B or C but your setup has inspired me! One question: have you ever considered an SUV tent or hatchback tent? Why or why not?

hello, would you recommend buying a car in australia, even though i am keen on doing a couple of long distance hikes? is it hard to find safe spots to leave your car for the duration of the hike? if you could go back, would you buy a car in aussie again? thanks and all the best, fabian

The "green tunnel" at 25:00 is Bossiaea aquifolium, aka 'waterbush'. Very common understorey species in the jarrah forest and very unpleasant to walk through after rain.

This was lovely to enjoy and thank you. Spending time like this with your parents is such a privilege for all of you. For many years, I camped and hiked with my parents and sister as a kid, and in later years with them and my own children now, right up until we lost dad last year. Mum and dad had countless great outdoor travels all over Aust and your joyful adventure brought back many wonderful memories. So, thank you - beautifully filmed and produced! Do you guys ever stop smiling?? Watching you all makes us very happy. Cheers and thanks from Sydney - Dave and family

Wow, Laura, what an amazing walk! You really did smash out those kms!!! Enjoyed your very informative commentary, and footage is excellent. You must be super fit!! Such an inspiration. Would love to know more about what gear you used (esp boots!), how you packed up your kit, and any pros & cons you found with your gear. I was wondering what all that water did to your feet!

Thanks Laura, for this wonderful vlog. Mt Buffalo holds a special place in my heart so it was lovely to be treated to views I haven't seen for many years, and see some places I hadn't been. My 1st visit to the snow (from WA) was in 1981 to Tatra/Cresta. In 1982 we hiked across the plain to Dicksons Falls and enjoyed spectacular views. Leigh Kennedy also arranged a BBQ and X-country hike towards The Horn & it was great having lessons on the "skinny-skis"! Your filming and information were fabulous!

I have just started getting back into hiking, kayaking, camping etc again after a long layoff (kids, work etc) and have also done alot of bush work as an exploration geologist in several states. Was great to get some more tips about planning and new gear (obviously a little different given I am a 6'2" guy) but still the knowledge can be translated as I am keen to start doing some longer trips than just a couple of days that I have experienced so far. If you ever need any assistance with future food drops, ideas etc for the Victorian high country (especially the far NE Vic section, let me know, more than happy to provide some knowledge or arrange some local help. keep up the great adventures and I am loving the content as you have completed a number of walks I am very keen to do when I get a chance.

What an amazing adventure on Tasmania’s Three Capes Track! The ‘Free Capes’ alternative sounds like a fantastic way to explore this stunning area, especially for those on a budget or who couldn't get a pass. The scenery in Tasman National Park looks absolutely breathtaking. Thanks for sharing your experience and tips on making this beautiful hike accessible. Looking forward to more of your adventures! Hi there...I am heading back out to the Nullarbor in November / December (Fowlers Ba, South Australia...From there to the WA border is an awesome walk. I know a couple who did this trek...NOBODY has film THAT walk though...Look I am 57 years old, not some pervert and for you to achieve that walk you'll need a lot of preparation as help could be 9 to 12 hours away unless the rescue chopper is in Ceduna which it rarely is...Water would be your biggest concern put I could go ahead and place water containers in various locations...I think you are a lovely young woman and I thought I would let you know...Nobody has filmed that trek...I'm Steve...Keep up the great content.

I would agree the Ossa is a less technical climb than Cradle Mt. I've been up in thigh deep snow and 6 months later in mid to high 20's temperatures. Observed helicopters lifting the walls of Kia Ora hut in March 2022 from the summit of Ossa. A really good summary of the Overland track. I am scheduled to do a winter reverse trip - Lake St Clair to Cradle in a couple of weeks. Was thinking about pulling out but this video has re-kindled my enthusiasm. Just need the weather to play ball. BTW, it's Hartnett not Hartlett Falls 😀😀

Hi Laura, you really know how to produce great content-absolutely enjoyable and compelling footage. That sure was a tough trail and you seem to take it all in your stride. You must have had some really tough days and moments hiking across so much rock etc. I'm a hiker too and know what it's like to carry a big pack with plenty of water over long tough distances. You are clearly super fit and resilient. Keep up the great work. Kind Regards. Trevor from 'AAWT One Step at A Time' video.
