"science at home" videos about chemistry, microbiology and microscopy. All experiments are performed in my home lab, usually with chemicals and devices you can buy in the supermarket or order on the internet. As some experiments can be dangerous, I recommend you not to try this at home! Always wear protective gear when experimenting!
Tollens´ reagent for aldehyde detection
If you want to find out if there is a ketone or aldehyde functional group in a substance, the Tollens´ reagent can help you. It´s always freshly made from a silver nitrate solution with a few drops of ammonia. If there´s a aldehyde group in a molecule like e.g in glucose, it will be oxidized and the silver nitrate is reduced, producing the so called silver mirror (elemental silver layer) on your reaction vessel. If the test is negative, the solution will stay colourless. The ammonia forms a complex with the silver, preventing that silver oxide is produced. instagram: floka_98

Просмотров 11 тыс.9 лет назад
Eosin methylene blue agar, or just EMB agar, is an important selective medium, which indicates the growth of the most famous bacteria, e.coli, by colonies with an green metallic sheen. This medium is often used to proof the existence of different pathogenic bacteria such as enterobacteriaceae. In this video you´ll learn how to make EMB agar plates and how different types of bacteria look like w...
Oxidation of the Amino Acid L-Cysteine
Просмотров 10 тыс.9 лет назад
Disulfide bridges play an important role in biochemistry. They are responsible for the structure of everything thats made of the protein keratin like your hair or nails. (and much more...) To have a look on those S-S bonds, we need to make them e.g. by oxidation of L-cysteine with hydrogen peroxide. In this video you´ll learn about the chemical mechanism of this reaction, see what happens if yo...
Making Barium Chloride for Sulfate Detection - Failure?!
Просмотров 4,7 тыс.9 лет назад
You need a detection reagent for sulfate ions? Take barium chloride! In this video, I´ll show you how to obtain it by a reaction between barium carbonate and hydrochloric acid. Don´t make the same mistake I did and avoid using a cheap iron spatula... you´ll get green-yellow iron chloride complexes :/ instagram: floka_98
DRY ICE - explosions, bubbles & science experiments
Просмотров 6119 лет назад
This is a compilation of experiments I did with some kilograms of dry ice containing several bottle bomb explosions, -80°C cold rose and lemon, CO2 filled bubbles and more "cool" stuff :D DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! I am not responsible for any accidents or inappropriate actions. instagram: floka_98
[DIY BIO] How to obtain Acetobacter & making Bromothymol blue Agar
Просмотров 13 тыс.9 лет назад
Acetobacter can oxidize ethanol to acetic acid when oxygen is present. As they´re pretty interesting to do experiments with, today I show you two different methods on how to obtain them from beer or old vinegar. Furthermore, I´ll explain how to make a Bromothymol blue agar which indicates the presence of an acid (or let´s say of acetobacter) by changing its colour from green to yellow. instagra...
How to Arrange a Portable Water Current System for a Distillery
Просмотров 2 тыс.9 лет назад
In small home labs it´s often difficult to work with a distillery because a faucet for the condenser may not be available. Today I´ll show you how to build your own small and cheap water current system for a distillery. You only need a aquarium pump (5W should be enough), a tube which fits on the extension pipes of your condenser as well as on the pump and finally a container filled with cold w...
Using silver nitrate as a detection reagent for chloride anions
Просмотров 8 тыс.9 лет назад
If you want to know whether there are chloride ions in a solution, you can use a 1% silver nitrate as a detection reagent. This is a classical precipitation reaction of analytical chemistry. instagram: floka_98
[DIY BIO] How To Conserve Bacteria For Months
Просмотров 20 тыс.9 лет назад
After around two weeks, bacteria die on agar plates. If you need to keep them alive longer, e.g. to have an insant source of bacteria, you will have to freeze them. The problem is that water freezes at 0°C and the spiky ice crystals would destroy the cell wall. That´s why you should use a mixture of glycerol and 0,9% of Sodium Chloride. I´ll show you a easy home lab method to do this. I do not ...
How To Make SulfurOUS (not sulfuric) acid [H2S03]
Просмотров 9 тыс.9 лет назад
Many factories emit sulfur dioxide which reacts with clouds in the air, producing sulphurous acid. This is one of the main chemical being responsible for acid rain. I´m producing this acid in the home lab scale. This reaction is very important for environmental chemistry instagram: floka_98
The Symbiotic Relationship Between Ants And Aphids
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.9 лет назад
A short video about a phenomenon I detected in my garden. Aphids get their nurishment by sucking the juice out of the needles. The remaining juice is eaten by the ants which protect the aphids/greenflies/plant louses from enemies. Both species profit from the each other, which is called symbiosis. instagram: floka_98
Reaction of Calcium Carbide [CaC2] with water
Просмотров 34 тыс.9 лет назад
Many people know the reaction of calcium carbide with water, because the highly flammable ethyne gas is often used as a "safe" explosive to play with. (although it isn´t) But did you know that the base calcium hydroxide is produced? We will prove it´s basic character by using a bromthymol blue indicator. Do Not Try This At Home! instagram: floka_98
synthesis and electrolysis of zinc iodide [ZnI2]
Просмотров 7 тыс.9 лет назад
If you already have a zinc iodide solution, skip to 2:31 In this video I´ll show you how to make a zinc iodide solution out of the elements zinc and iodine. The electrolysis of the solution produces these elements again, which is indicated by an orange colour change on the positive pole, and a silver looking metal on the negative pole. Wear safety equipment! instagram: floka_98
[DIY LAB] How to Build a Home Lab Working Surface
Просмотров 8 тыс.9 лет назад
I´ll show you how to craft a portable chemistry working top for around 50€. You can buy everything you need for this project in a DIY market. In fact, it´s just a wooden board with small lab tiles on it. You´ll need 2 or 3 hours to build it. Especially for home lab chemists this surface will be very useful because it´s resistant to most acids and heat. instagram: floka_98
How to make nitrogen triiodine [NI3]
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.9 лет назад
An easy way to make nitrogen triiodine. This is a very sensitive exposive, even flashlights or sounds can make it detonate! That´s why you have to handle it very carefully! Always wear safety equipment! I do not recommend to try this at home! I am not responsible for any accidents or inappropriate actions! Do never use more than 15ml ammonia and 2,5g iodine. instagram: floka_98

Germans know a lot about gas
I got 37% How much should be the ratio for 100g?
Good job! 👍
I was not able to find this information thank you for help man.
😀
Love ur video ❤
Thank you!!
Oh wow !!
Youre not getting 2 hcl. Without heat you only get one and a bicarbonate. In my experience, i dont get much of anything wothout heating the solution.
Hm, I've always learned that as a rule of thumb for most distillations, the cold water should enter at the top of the liebig (the left valve).
The rule of thumb is that the cooling water should be run in a countercurrent to the cooled medium. So the presented way is the correct one. The one exception is when the condenser is vertical then the cooling water enters from the bottom, so the cooling jacket can be filled fully, disregarding the actual flow of the cooled medium, which can, but doesn't have to, flow in a countercurrent.
@@Tyresio12 yea that makes sense nvm my prior comment lol
I was bit confused with my vertical condenser for a bit before realising this and the water wouldn't just pour away when new water entered the condenser.
is CO2 produced from the reaction? then how is it getting burned?
Product's this reaction are only ethene and Ca(OH)2. Simply ethene is a flammable gas
Uh, shouldn’t you rinse mother vinegar’s booger with distilled or spring water and not tap that has chlorine? I would much rather use mother vinegar’s booger than bug beer. 🤢🤮
You are using far too much water for this small experiment. Everything needs to be in proportion to what you have in the test-tube. It's no wonder you obviously won't get a high concentration.
what happens to the aluminum?
when is new video coming?
I think, but I never tried: NaCl + H2SO4 = NaHSO4 + HCL; since the cc.H2SO4 can barely give away the second H+, and when the reaction starts there is less H2SO4 than NaCl
¿ T °C in reaccion ? ¿T °C in HCl + H2O ?
Zinc depositied not H2 given off, even though Zn more reactive than H, as concentration Zn2+ much higher than conc H+,. Also the power supply voltage is more than the redox potential of the Zn2+/Zn half cell, so we have an "overvoltage" which helps overcome the activation energy.
I don't want to see the PH. That tells me nothing. I want to see if it fumes when you blow over it. Is it 37% concentrated or higher?
If you take the temperature below 200°C so the reaction will be :- NaCl +H2SO4---------> NaHSO4 + HCl But if you take the temperature above 200°C so the reaction will be:- NaCl + H2SO4---------> Na2SO4 + HCl In both cases, you will get the HCl gas but there will be different reactions.....
Hey, tomorrow is my board exams of chemistry and I am confused with this topic but you made it successful for me....thanks buddy... You got a new like and a new View and a new subscriber also 😉
How did you do Ashish Kumar? @AshishKumar?
if h2SO4 is more stable than HCl (as i learned in chem class) then why does H2SO4 turn to HCl(less active to more active) not the other way around?
Because the sodium in the sodium chloride wants to react with the sulphur oxide making NaSO3 or NaSO4 depending on tempture.
This thing drank all my alcohol!
With 37% HCL, what reading do you get on your PH meter? I think it shoud be 0.
To be fair its not easy to get to 37% due to the chlorine dissolving in to the water.
@@tek4 Whenever I make HCL, I always get 37% or higher.
Excellent and informative video, Thankyou!
Question, is this gas anhydrous or dry or is it hydrated? How do you dehydrate the HCL gas?
hydrated its aqueos for dehydration, theoretically i think you could boil it (its called fractional distilation) but please note i am no expert, doing so might result in explosions if done in a lab
Help helo
Really it's very helpful for me to make corrosive acid for increasing my terrorism.
TQ for the information ☺️☺️☺️
Since the reaction was not heated to 200°C so it will form Nahso4
How you made inoculation loop
Hay German (Deutchie :O) ) fella! I like you being human. Nitcht AGAIN Ish mushta nitchet de non-humans. Of course, I speak in the name of no stupidity movement, Dr. Reich, and the movements, (new things, that is) of the 21st Century. Good Job- sorry I speak terrible German
Loved it!
Good
thank you bro..so neat and simple, make more videos like this...
Sir is what are the othrr sources of Acetobacter species
That was awesome 👌👏😎🙌
Op😊😊😊
Can we use KCl in place of NaCl
yes, and CaCl2, CsCl, whatever else, that would work atleast, stay eoth the alkaline metals but stay away from things that would form insoluble sulfates (temp over 200° c) lile calcium
I made it by burning sulfur in a sealed jar and pouring in some water.
did you faint due to the toxic gas? I heard that everbody who does this faints for a minute and then wakes up with crossed eyes.
@@davemwangi05 I didn't inhale alot of it. I felt a little in my throat but nothing severe.
@@vxbrxnt No I was just kidding. Maybe you should try in haling some nitrogen oxide. I did and it was fun.
@@davemwangi05 nitrous oxide also forms poisonous nitrogen dioxide on contact with oxygen in the air. Are you sure that you want to be inhaling that? 😜
Amazing, I didn’t know about the potassium
The reaction that you wrote at last, in it why there is no Water, H²o
you use hydrochloric acid ?
Are you German?
Well what about the drying agent, you took out only the moist HCl gas 😂
yep he needs to dry it using h2so4 (conc)
If you first mix NaCl with H2O and then, drops the H2SO4?
I think you can add videos like before. They are nice to see them
What is black part
This kids is how meth labs make the freebase into the salt of meth you see on the street.
