Is Social Media Ruining Miniature Painting?
Yes I have lost a few heads because of this.
So real.
beautiful
Cheers mate
Gotta get rid of that aquilla!
That looks awesome. Black is such a hard colour to get right. Well, I find it super difficult. This tutorial looks really achievable. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful!
Interesting, love the purple color filter. How would you approach adding blue highlights to these? Some of the RG models use this for edge highlighting, wondered if I could just use a blue wash, or should I drybrush a night blue....
Thank you. If you wanted to have a colder highlight colour you could mix some blue to the black filter, this would tint everything so I wouldn't apply it to the metallics. If you wanted to follow the steps in the this video you could drybrush the blue highlights.
@@jwminiatures Thanks, I'll be working on a couple of Justaerin next week, I'll give this a shot and let you know what works best.
This looks very nice
Thank you
Great tutorial and great idea with the brain! Looks amazing!
Superb work 👌🏻
I was just lamenting that there wasn’t much chaos trim NMM reference on Pinterest. Thanks for the tutorial, your end result looks great!
That looks great. This lil short earned my like n sub. Thanks
What did you use for the basing? :)
I've got a video covering how I made the bases ruclips.net/video/qxforJD-NHA/видео.html
I wish I saw this before I absolutely wrecked my swords with the worst attempt at powerswords ever xD This looks so simple and good!
Cheers buddy. It's never to late to go back and repaint them!
Bro, thank you so much for this shit. Save so much time simple and easy. Looks amazing.
I'm glad you found it helpful!
Fantastic paint job and as a beginner easy to understand the steps you went through.
Thank you buddy. Glad you enjoyed it!
I mean, it's a good sheme, but it does look a lot like a Dark Angel
It does a bit. I personally like a darker Salamander, has a bit more of a grimdark feel to it
Pinta increíble
Awesome as always! Thank you for sharing. Can’t wait to try this out.
Thank you. Look forward to seeing the results!
Woooooo burni bois! I prefer mine slightly lighter else I think they look too like dark angels
That's a fair, I like the darker greens. You could add some additional highlights or passes with brighter greens using the same steps and processes
Super cool stuff. What model is that?
Cheers buddy. He is from Garrek's Reavers Underworld warband, they were in the original starting box
Fantastic video! The use of the filter layer really helped tie the skin tones together.
Thank you mate. Yeah, filter layers are a great way to pull everything together
Interesting, nice result.
Thank you buddy!
Great colours!
Cheers mate!
Great video, clear info, thanks and keep up the high quality!
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it!
If mario and samus had a baby
Bro GW and Nintendo finna be on him💀
He finally had enough of bowers shit 😂
LET'S A GOOOOOO!!!!!
Mario style!
"Thin it down to a wash." - Great idea, but for those new to that, what's the ratio? Must we use distilled water and perhaps dish soap? A glaze is the exact same but thicker, right?
I tend to do it by eye, when you are thinning it yourself you have a bit more control. You can create a thick wash or thin wash, but it's probably close to something like 1 part paint to 5-10 parts water. I just my paint water to thin it, nothing fancy but you can use glaze mediums and thinners if you prefer.
@@jwminiatures Thanks. I think then the glaze contains a surfactant akin to dish soap, which should improve coverage for 80% opaque ink/dye/speed/contrast/glaze (1:3.5 water) painting whereas a regular 30% opaque wash/shade (1:7.5 water) tends to stick to corners due to surface tension.
TBH its more about the application of the mix. With a glaze or a filter layer you use roughly the same consistency as a wash but its applied in a very controlled manner vs a wash which is generally applied liberally so it pools in the recesses.
I've been reading about these reactivating when some people have been applying polyurethane varnishes over them. Though possibly this is when the varnish has been applied by hand rather than airbrush. Have you had any experience of this?
I've never had any issues with reactivation when using these paints. I've never brushed on a varnish, I've always done it with an airbrush but I have layer multiple different paints over these and even mixed them with other paints and had no issues
@jwminiatures fantastic, thank you so much for the info!
Cool video. Haven't seen anyone using this technique before.
Cheers buddy, glad you enjoyed it!
Love this! Hope the rest of the series drops soon!
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it. The next video will be dropping soon!
Gonna give this try
Look forward to seeing how it goes!

Yeah, feel free to reach out if you have any questions about it
Lovely skin tone 😍
Thank you mate
Nice job, this goes into the watch again pile for a future project. Thanks!
Cheers mate, glad you liked it!
I’ve never used tufts, do they just stick themselves or did you use the super glue?
They are usually self adhesive, sometimes you need a wee bit of super glue if you have a lot of pigments on the base or if you think you'll be handling them a lot.
Looks great!
Thank you mate!
Great video. Just about to embark on some Darkoath so it’s also brilliantly timed. Thanks James.
Nice one. Be sure you share some pics of the models!
Awesome and really helpful tutorial, this may come in handy in the future. Thanks for sharing 🙌. Do you mind sharing what colors you used for the bronze parts e.g. the sword hilt?
Cheers buddy, glad you enjoyed it! I think it was doombull brown, XV-88, cadian fleshtone and white
Bravo 👏
Cheers mate
After about 20+ years wanting to start painting miniatures, I had finally started last week - commercial models are way too expensive in my country, but a few months ago I had purchased a 3D printer and after some trials I am getting fairly good results with a 0.2mm nozzle, and printing my models to learn how to paint. Videos like this one are being invaluable for me, who hasn't a clue about paints, techniques, color theory, etc. My results are a mess right now, but I am enjoying the process. I always needed something to calm down my mind, painting miniatures is doing it, and this is possible (for me, at least) only because of people like you putting time and effort to teach people like me. Thank you very much! 😊
Thank you very much, really appreciate the comment
Excellent, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What purples?
There is a full video explaining the processes and colours used
Only thing I'm doing different in my formula is the eyes; I went with amber eyes - red is actually diametrically opposed to green (I also think it looks too Christmas-y) but the complimentary color is orange-yellow. Also fits in with their roots being Luna Wolves. Finally, I'm dabbling with enamels and am using a black-brown oil wash with reductive technique instead of the black/mournfang you have here. I do some final highlights afterward with gold/aluminium from the same vallejo range for a touch more contrast. EDIT: One thing I love doing is blacking out those center chest piece assemblies and highlighting with some grey, gives is a nice armor feel rather than just "metal overlay", but I have done the gunmetal on several units.
Sounds cool, feel free to share some pics
Hey this looks great! I’m just wondering will it be fine/look roughly the same if I don’t dry brush it ?
Cheer buddy. Yeah it will look pretty much the same if you layer up the highlights, it will probably give you a more pop as the layers will be more opaque but might take a wee bit longer
The hero returns just when he's needed most. Thanks for this dude, have a ton of bezerkers who need their skin painted!
Perfect timing! Share some pics when you get them finished!
Batman Space Marines are called Night Lords ;) Awesome work though ^^
Ultra stylé Limite un petit tuto serai super 😎
Thank you buddy
Those highlights are beautiful
Thank you!
Fantastic work! I have to ask, what kind of painting handle is that?
Cheers buddy. I am using the Rathcore Miniature holder with a 70mm arm in this video, I get mine from elementgames.co.uk/paints-hobby-and-scenery/rathcore?d=10816
