Mauricio Pochettino is the NEW USMNT Manager
Great segment! Good to see both of you sharing insights… really good stuff this week. Can we agree that Taylor Booth really shouldn’t even be in the senior team radar at this point? Unfortunately for him, I just don’t see him making the senior squad ever again. And love the shoutout to Julían Carranza for his tribute to Holden Trent. Those kinds of things show sports at their best, and it’s part of why we love the game so much. RIP Holden Trent ❤
I honestly don’t know why people still are mentioning him in the senior team picture. There’s also the fact that he’s playing out of position, but everyone seems to have just accepted that he’s a winger for some reason.
Happy for Tessmann, Lyon such a wild club I can't believe he's there after last season.
They’re pretty entertaining to be fair, still can’t wrap my head around the fact that they didn’t win either game last week.
I was hoping you were going to mention Johnny. Didn’t have any goal contributions but should have. Multiple good through balls from Johnny. Betis should have had another couple of goals, dominated the game. Been hard for me to get excited about PSV. Outside of the top 5 teams is the Dutch league even better than MLS?.
Incredible match from him, very encouraging to see. I’d definitely say Eredivisie is better than MLS, especially in terms of producing talent and setting up young players for future success. PSV themselves are much better than any MLS club and performing well for them is very significant.
Hi Dear Yuri and Hi Dear Braden I love this content so much.🥰😍🤗❤🤍💙💯
Thank you!
Not sure how many games Weah will start with the youngster that came in for him scoring two goals and the youngster on the right wing everyone seems to be in love with. Pepi had best make every minute count as long as PSV is still in uefa - once they are out, de Jong will play every minute to pad his stats. Any news on Gio or Kevin Paredes - have they dropped off the face of the earth? With BD losing games it’s killing me not to see Gio in the lineup. I saw where Fonseca believes Pulisic’s best position is through the middle especially with Leao having a seat and other forwards coming off the bench. I hope the USMNT has enough bodies to play him in both positions to change up their attack.
I doubt Weah will be starting every game, but if he keeps scoring he’s going to make himself undeniable. Even if it’s not starting, he’ll definitely get minutes in every match that he’s fit for. Unfortunately Gio and KP are both still injured, they’re likely to be out until at least the next international break in November.
Pepi just scores! How can you keep this guy on the USMNT branch? We need a 2 striker formation going forward.
Interested to see what lineup you would put out with 2 strikers
Rip that keeper died so Young do you what happened
Out of respect for Holden Trent and his family the details of his death were not released, but his family shared a few days prior that he had been admitted to the ICU.
@@AMERICANULTRASTALK oh no so tragic for them. Such a young man with a good future ahead taken to soon
Glad to see Tessmann starting for Lyon! Good game he had. McKennie and pepi also
It was a great week in general for our players, so many good performances!
Gaga Slonina has been benched at Barnsley 😢
Not a good start to the season for him
Pulisic is making everyone else look bad
True, but that’s to be expected considering how good he is
great vid, would love the mls predictions video
Out now!
The minute McKenzie gets a chance at a big match for the National Team we will be doomed.
Kind of think we’re doomed in big matches regardless of who plays CB
Just in time for lunch 🔥 thank u
🔥🔥🔥
Good recap. Fairly quiet week, and glad you highlighted MLS players deserving a shoutout, because most other the other guys were pretty quiet, except for Pulisic, who absolutely is in the best form of his life. Always like the youth shoutouts. And can Diego Luna please get a chance with US Soccer?? 🤞🏽 Have to see how he would do in that type of environment.
Kind of crazy how Luna continues to be overlooked by us. How much longer until he gives in and chooses Mexico?
McKenzie back to his usual self, always directly involved in any goals his team concedes. Can Neal and Wynder step up please
I wouldn’t be that optimistic about Neal, he’s very overrated. Banks is the best bet, unless we can get Chase to commit.
Where's the props for the Vazquez control out of the air?
Pochettino obviously doesn't agree with you guys. Morris is an 8 and a very skilled player. Yuri, did you miss Morris doing the toe poke drible de vaca?
What are you talking about?? Tessman? Malooney?? Those two are horrible...Tessman specifically is like old bradley 2.0. Only back passes and no dribling skills
For someone like Malik Tillman, it’s such a shame knowing a player really doesn’t have the heart and spirit for playing for the US national team, you know he accepted the call up just for a career benefit not because his heart is really in it, am I speculating on this? Maybe, but this is very similar to the stories of the Klinsmann era where German born Americans only accepted the call because they weren’t cracking the German squad, and arrogantly and lethargically played for the USMNT.
Aaronson was the worst by far, IMO. He turned it over or back passed every single time. He killed us.
It was very frustrating watching him pass it back so often
What this shows us is our player depth is weak. Unfortunately a big load of our starters are hurt and the backups showed they are a big drop off in quality.
Pete and Tac made a solid point in their postmatch livestream, some of these backups are solid role players but aren’t good starters at all. Unfortunately, with the injury issues we always seem to have, we need some backups who are capable starters.
Just now waking up to the Championship being a just ok average league ranked by Opta 1 level below MLS. Maybe that's the reason why our Championship level guys have NEVER ever been significantly better than our MLS guys. Dual nats can be great as role players, but they're rarely stars and are often mercenaries that won't fight hard
I think that ranking is bs honestly, MLS isn’t a top 10 league in the world. Agree about dual nats, although often they’re very talented, just don’t care enough for it to matter.
It was embarrassing. 10 minutes in super naive tactics. An Aaronson back pass or us giving away possession in midfield, shocking stuff.
Yeah, it was bad.
Guys, you’re all overreacting. 😂 It’s his first camp. We should have some of our core players available for the Jamaica games.
We better, because if this group of players has to start again we’re going to lose.
I’m not that upset. This was a punch you in the mouth kind of game against Mexico in Mexico. We roll out aaronson who gets blown over by a stiff breeze, Busio who’s never taken the ball away from anyone, and Morris who is actually over a 100Lbs but is really slow. One look at the lineup and you knew we were going to lose the midfield. So then we are relying on Musah to the outside to make something happen in the final third….. so the only way we score with that lineup is Busio, Tillman and Jedi combine on the Left to get the ball to Sargent or Mexico’s defense falls asleep. I’m not saying Maloney is the best most technical player ever but he would have helped, we needed a tough guy, it’s also why for tough matches I start Tyler over Johnny. Didn’t understand why zendejas and Vasquez didn’t start, you were going to get their best. USMNT need more away matches.
Definitely agree that we need more away matches, we need to build the mentality in that kind of situation. The lack of experience playing in Mexico was a huge factor.
Great video as always guys.
Thanks Carson!
What a mess. Just depressing as a fan to see that kind of lack of effort and indifference by the players. Shoutout to Raúl Jiménez , who was him that game. He pretty much beat our entire squad single-handed Ku. Hopefully this was a wake up call to Poch. The key is whether he learns from it and uses it to improve. That is where I think we will (or at least should) see a difference between Poch and Berhalter. Gregg never changed anything really. I pray Poch makes adjustments 🙏🏽 I’m not sure how much the injury situation will improve over the next two months before the next camp. Guys who should NOT be in the next camp: Sargent, Musah, Morris, Robinson, and Aaronson (which hurts, because I’m a big fan of the hustle he plays with). I won’t cry if they leave out Ream, Scally, Zendejas or Tillman. Assuming Dest and Adams still won’t be available, guys who SHOULD be at the next camp that weren’t at this one: Balogin, McKennie (OK he was there but didn’t play), Maloney, Richards, Tolkien, Weah, Reyna, and then either Yow or Luna as a winger. Hang in there, boys.
Balogun and Reyna are still going to be injured most likely, could be the same for some of our other players as well. Hopefully the majority of them are back though and Poch makes some adjustments to the roster. Even if it’s not permanently dropping those players, it’s time to give some other guys a chance to prove themselves.
The game disappointed me, but cognitively I don't see it as a big negative. There's the emotional sting of looking bad against Mexico. It doesn't really have that much to say, though. The most I can say is that the US adapted poorly to the field conditions. But they were playing in a friendly with inexperienced players under a new coach. It's hard for me to justify reading anything into it. What was the goal of the game and what is the long term goal of the team? Well the long term goal of the team is to perform well at the World Cup. The goal of the game is to introduce the players to the coach and the coach to the players and build a foundation for success at the World Cup. Pochettino indicated that by allowing the players to leave camp. If the goal of the game was to secure a friendly victory against Mexico he never would have let Pulisic go. But he knows taking a risk with Pulisic is not the right thing to do. Of course any time you play you want to see everyone fighting for a win. I don't believe the players lacked fight, however. The US will never play on any field like that at the World Cup. Brandon Vazquez is likely a palpably superior player to Sargent on a field like that. But so what? OK, maybe that challenge won't come up for the World Cup but other challenges surely will and the team need to demonstrate the ability to rise to challenges. That's certainly true and, besides being beaten by Mexico, that is certainly a source for disappointment. But stepping back for a moment and analyzing the situation, we played two 22 year olds at the base of the midfield with combined 20 caps with the senior team who are firstly adjusting to national team soccer and secondarily to a new coach. Expecting them to adapt well to terrible field conditions under those circumstances is not realistic. Hoping, sure, but expecting, no. There were again mistakes at the back that this time led to goals. Miles Robinson's kick. I don't know what else to call it other than a kick. It wasn't a pass, it wasn't a clearance. It was just a ball kicked in a seemingly indiscriminate direction and distance, all the while he could have rolled it to Turner instead. Tim Ream took a bad touch after winning the ball, perhaps influenced by the field, but he showed an utter lack of urgency afterwards and instead of rushing to get to the ball he picked his head up and looked around for the best outlet. But those moments that led to Mexico's goals do not define the game on their own. To me what defines it was the lack of players in position to lead the US out of tough conditions in a roughly officiated game against an experienced and motivated Mexico side in front of a hostile crowd. Who are the players we would want to lead us in such a situation? I'd argue Tyler Adams, Weston Mckennie, and Christian Pulisic, none of whom were there. As I mentioned, I don't think Busio or Morris should be expected to do it under the situation they currently are in. Who then, Tillman? Musah? Those are two talented players but both are dealing with issues directly affecting that very ability. Sargent is not playing in the right position to be able to do it. There was only one player to really try to rely on. Brenden Aaronson. He put in complete effort but he came up short on quality in key moments. But just consider the team. Miles Robinson, not very good. Scally, 21 years old 15 caps. Busio 22 years old 14 caps, Morris 22 years old 6 caps, Tillman 22 years old 12 caps, Musah yes he has a lot of caps at 39 but still only 21 years old and part of his issue is he's not mr. reliable. he's very much a player who shows his age not a player who plays beyond his years, despite his number of caps, Tessman 22 years old 3 caps, Lund 22 years old 4 caps, Vazquez 8 caps, Zendejas 4 caps, Wright 10 caps. So my point is the US were not set up for success. But the US were not trying their hardest to set themselves up for success. They were trying to test themselves in a soccer match. Several players were asked to do what they were not good at or new at without the support of our most experienced and best players. It's disappointing but hardly devastating. Sometimes you take an ass whooping. It doesn't necessarily mean that all or even any of the players suck or that something is wrong. The context is always important. And hopefully with this experience Busio and Morris and everyone else will take small steps towards being capable of being relied on more next time.
Great analysis! We do think it’s hard to put too much stock into this, but honestly the main thing we’re upset about is the lack of effort or heart shown by the team in a rivalry game, not the end result. Like you said, the only player there that we could rely on in terms of mentality was Aaronson, and as much as I like the guy, if he’s the only one you’re looking towards to create chances, that’s a recipe for disaster. Hopefully the players and coaching staff take this as a learning experience and make the necessary adjustments for the next camp, because I highly doubt the pitch conditions in Kingston will be that much better than they were in this game.
My takeaway from the game: Poor management! Why are we playing out of the back when Mexico is pressing us so high. The last few games against Mexico, we played very direct and were able to get in behind their backline. I don't buy in to this narrative that this one was all on the players when they (specifically Morris and Aaronson) are being asked to do things they aren't good at (Morris playing out of the back under pressure, Aaronson being our main creator in the middle for the first half). Tactics were all wrong but I'll give poch the benefit of the doubt since it was his first camp
Completely agree, there’s a lot of things that Poch got wrong. However, like you said, we have to remain patient and give him the benefit of the doubt. If we still look this bad after another two camps or so, then it’s time to ring the alarm bells.
love it boys, seen way too many casuals brush this result off like it doesn’t matter
It’s not even the result, it’s how we got to that result. The main thing we’re frustrated about is the complete lack of mentality and quality, not the actual loss.
If our A roster gave that kind of performance, I would be more concerned. Really just showing we don’t have as much depth as we would hope.
True, but with all the injuries we seem to have every window, we need some depth pieces to start stepping up.
My TV almost didn't make it from all things I was throwing at it. This game was very sad. Our Euro guys were getting slapped by Liga MX guys. Actually, the only two guys that showed some fight were our Liga MX guys; too bad they don't have much skill. Tillman was the biggest disappointment. Yes, he was being played out of position most of the game, but man, sis he look disinterested. Maybe the intensity was too much for him. It was clearly too much for most of our players. Looked like Mexico was playing with 12 on the field. They were always in correct positions.
You could make the argument that they were playing with 12 because of the ref, but it was sad that no one besides Zendejas and Vazquez (maybe Aaronson) looked like they actually cared.
Tessman & Busio PLAYED TOGETHER in Italy 🇮🇹, but Poch takes out Busion & keeps Morris on to play alongside Tess?!?! Poch is WAY better than GGG, but i think he needs more time to analyze this team.
That was one of the biggest surprises to me. I would’ve started Tessmann and Busio together in the first place, but not giving them any minutes together all camp is baffling.
I agree with your Miles rating, he was horrendous! He got megged at least twice and was losing headers to players 6 inches shorter!
It seemed like he found a new way to be horrible every 10 minutes or so. Hopefully we never see with the USMNT again.
Wright is a total waste of time. Same as Sargent, and a bunch more of players
I’m not sure I’d say that. He bailed us out against Jamaica last spring and got a nice assist against Panama just last game. He’s actually proven to be useful at times, Sargent hasn’t. Plus, he has more World Cup knockout goals than Ronaldo 😂
Fair to say Aaronson, Morris and Robinson should be borderline banned. Tillman, Musah on very very thin ice. Pochettino has a lot to prove.
In my opinion, this is Poch’s biggest test of his career. If he can sort out the player pool and actually make us a competent team in time for the World Cup, that would be an incredible feat.
I’m so sad y’all. But I think poch should be given sometime
Definitely, we’re still optimistic about Poch
Couldn't watch the game as I didn't have any of the streaming channels. But in watching the reactions, I'm actually happy our fans are so mad about this result. If GGG had suffered this loss the shill pundits would have covered for him and the fans would have just shrugged in resignation. The fact that we all (fans and media shills) are angry and demanding more means we're getting more serious as a footballing nation. Let Mexico celebrate - they had all their best players, and we had 2nd and 3rd stringers, and they're going to think they've changed the dynamic in the rivalry. It will come crashing down when all of our best players are back and Poch has a chance to install his tactics. Also, agree that Musah and Sargent and Aaronson don't need to be included in any further selections.
I will say, I like that everyone seems to be holding the players accountable because that didn’t happen much under Gregg.
Not all best players missing santi Marcel ruiz Cordova Flores huescas araujo chavez Lozano none of them played
Aguirre is still trying players out he made the best team he could from what he called up to try
@@SantanaI-g4e Good point, forgot about their missing list. Not as many as ours, but still significant.
IMO, the next Mexico and Usmnt will be closer than what everyone thinks. El Tri, will certainly build from this and the Usmnt has once again took 1 step forward and two backwards. The next month will give a more clear picture in where both teams will be at. Honduras will be looking to win at home again where Jamaica will have some unfinished business to settle at their home.
What’s really frustrating about tillman besides all you mentioned is he has some really good moments that show what he can do like keep possession of the ball when there’s four on him
He had a couple good moments against Panama and always has them for PSV. Outside of that, haven’t seen anything. We know there’s a player there, it’s becoming kind of clear that it’s a mentality problem.
Dos a cero
Congrats on the win, you were the better team by far
I wish I was a Mexico fan, maybe I’ll switch now. My family is Mexican lol 😂
Jajajajaja!
I watched certain players bc you guys said they were ass like Robinson an arrenson an yea they are ass
You’re in denial to defend Aaronson 😂 he’s shit, I never want to see him or Morris play for us again.
Keep that same energy when talking about Tillman.
I don't want to see Lund either
Gregg’s handprint is still all over this squad and that is so clear to see because the only ones to play well were Busio, Vazquez, Tessmann and Zendejas, guys that hardly ever got a look under Gregg.
Great point
I agree with you, Poch didn’t care enough to do a good job, I wonder what he was doing this whole time he has been hired and didn’t have a camp.
I’ll be very interested to see what he does next camp in terms of roster selection. If it’s the same group again (plus some of the guys who are injured of course), that’ll be a little concerning.
@gushibbo Pocheto went to McD this whole time. Just take a look at him. He was eating burgers like there was not tomorrow. That is apparently how he was wasting his time, instead of giving 110% training his team. The Burger Boy was a wrong hiring by the USMNT.
1.5? Created our “only chance” oh my, so much for an unbiased RUclipsr/Pundit. We didn’t watch the same game.
Aaronson and Zendejas were the only players who played a pass that led to a chance. That is objectively true. Mad at a 1.5 rating, I swear most of the fanbase thinks he’s worse than Benedict Arnold. Insane. I feel the need to defend him because everyone always scapegoats him for anything bad and ignores horrible performances from players like Tillman and Musah.
Musah and Tillman are shit and shouldn’t be back too happy now? Everyone criticizes him because he is shit and even at his best he won’t help the team I know it sucks when your favorite player sucks.
Not sure what you want from me. I gave him a horrible rating, I said he shouldn’t be called back for a while. Seems more than reasonable, am I missing something?
@@AMERICANULTRASTALKHe was horrible. Gave the ball away constantly with horrible touches and passes. Maybe he created a chance, but he gave away 20 chances.
Aiden Morris, Brenden Aaronson, Yunus Musah and Josh Sargent should not be back on the roster anytime soon.
Totally agree!!! Just call it what it is guys, I'll player pool is poor!!
This camp raised a lot of concerns about our depth, and with the injury problems all our starters always seem to have, we can’t afford to have bad depth.
Give Morris a chance - he's young & needed this sobering moment. The other 3....... they've been here 5-6 years now?! NO EXCUSE.
@@AMERICANULTRASTALK No, I get the injuries to our primary starters, load management, etc. I would just like to see move decisive passes and decision-making from players that have been playing soccer since birth....
IMO, I think we see several new players called up to the next camp. Maybe Poch and coaching staff are giving most players two starts baring some poor performance....?
Maybe the Gio haters will stfu for a bit. Who will you bench him for now 😂😂😂?
Im tired of seeing that mf aaronson 🤡get him out the team for life he’s fkn useless
Gio was one of the biggest winners from this camp and he wasn’t even playing. Says a lot.
@@AMERICANULTRASTALK yep. Though it was already pretty clear to me before the window tbh. Anyway. Love the channel. Keep it going guys.
Brandon Vazquez had some bright spots;outside Busio had a few shimmers; winning that single throw in after his drive , and Scallys attempts at making something happen by driving diagonally across the field. Aaronson might as well not be on the field. Paxten is SO clear. Musah was literally MIA Sargent had zero service. We played long balls with no real midfield presence to win the second header. That's why I still appreciate McKennie as fat as he is. He will win headers. Tessman coming on and stability was instantly realized in the midfield despite having a guy like Morris pairing up with him. A good player brings other players up to his level. And Tessman and Haji Wright were an example of that. I wish that Haji was sent out to the wing and not the striker position imo.
Props to Vazquez, he might be the only player in camp who raised his stock
I didn't really watch the game so I can't say much on a pre season performance
You made the right call not watching
I'm really so sad and shocked like You both Dear Yuri and Dear Braden.😥😞🇺🇲🙏
Not a good day.
