This channel is dedicated to my plastic modelling kits builds, reviews, completed build or anything related to kit modelling. I am an amateur modeler and have been building kits for over 40 years. My interest categories include planes (jet fighter, bombers, cargo, WW2), tanks (trucks, rail guns, train), ships (military, cargo, commercial), submarine, gundam and other odd subjects. I have built hundreds up until my teens and cooled off when i went to college and started work. The addiction came back in my late 20s and I continued ever since then until now. Hope you will enjoy my channel!

@@PRBananastan you bought?
@@modelar705 yeah.. early trumpeter kits like this have a reputation of bad quality, and I'd assume you dont live in China which means the price will be similar to the good ones, defo try to avoid these
@@modelar705 I got their 350 scale new jersey a few years ago in China, details, fitting are just bad, with no PE parts at all, but on the positive side it only costed me 50 USD I think
@@PRBananastan mini hobby models are lower grade Trumpeter kit but extremely cheap. I have build the Ticonderoga for USD 15 and the Enterprise cost me USD 40. For that price the quality is not so good but still buildable. Reason why i bought the Enterprise is because i couldnt afford the Tamiya version. The build for me was challenging and fun.
@@PRBananastan YOu can still make it look nice by adding PE.
Hey Ken looking good. I've been watching another you tuber who's philosophy is "at arms length it looks good." His meaning is that most veiwers will look at the model from that distance so he doesn't spend too much time with tiny little details nobody will ever see. The hose reels look fine as you look through the openings. They appear to be like lights hanging down from the overhead and the LED lights make them appear to be lit up. I use lead wire that comes from fishing stores. Fly fishermen use it to weight the lures they tie. It comes in many diameters some very fine like .05mm. It is really useful to replicate pipes and wiring. If you paint the area around the elevators black and then silver the light should reflect and perhaps appear brighter. Take care.
@@michaelcavanaugh1581 Hello Mike!. nice to hear from you. i like that philosophy “at arms length it looks good”. As long as it looks good will do. i’ll check out the lead fishing wires. Thanks for the tip.
"Hi Ken, great progress on your build… it's looking fantastic so far… the lighting for the hangar turned out really well. And yes, it’s nice that there are so many doors where the light can shine through. I would leave the lights at the top as they are. I’m curious to see if you’ll actually add all the pipes on the walls, or at least some of them… not sure if I would do it myself, it’s a lot of work… but sometimes you make a spontaneous decision, and ways are found. Best regards!^^"

I toured CV-10 USS Yorktown in South Carolina several years ago. To me it was much the same as the ships I served on just smaller. It was no longer in WWII trim of course, that would require a major rework to return it to a straight deck. To keep using these ships in the jet age they had to add the angle deck to each of them. Intrepid was converted in at the New York Navy Yard from 1955 to 1957. This modernization of Essex class carriers continued through the Midway class CV-41 - 43. There were two extended bow essex carriers but neither was converted. The first purpose built angle deck carriers in the US Navy were the Forrestal class. A CVA was an attack carrier and a CVS was anti-submarine carrier. I'm not sure exactly when they started using these two designations but about 1975 Enterprise was reverted to a CVN from a CVAN. The airwing they supplied in your kit is more in line with a CVA. The E-1A is the predecessor of the E-2D in use today, an Airborne Early Warning aircraft. The rest of the planes were fighters or attack aircraft. There aren't any S-2A's which would have been a major part of the CVS airwing. You can buy various 3D printed and cast resin aircraft if you want a larger airwing but they are generally much more expensive. Intrepid was a CVA from 1954 to 1961 when she was reclassified as a CVS. I'll be looking forward to your build. Happy modeling.
@@michaelcavanaugh1581 that’s some interesting history there. seems like the intrepid went through many missions including the vietnam war. always interesting to learn about the ship as i build. Thanks Mike.
I concur, 'modelar'..... the CVS is a A/C whose function is anti-Submarine ( thus the " S " in CVS ), while CVA is an "Attack" A/C.🤔 The thing that 'michaelc' has also mentioned is that you have E-1s "Tracer" ( the plane with the funny looking radar dome ) a-c........ but if it is a CVS model you are building, you are going to need S-2s "Tracker" ( plane with NO radar dome ). IF you are going for S-2s...you will need to modify the E-1 A LOT!!! 💯👎 I would TRY to buy one (1) set of "Tracker" set and remove/not use the E-1 that 'Trumpeter' gave you!!👎👎👎👎
@@Hey_MikeZeroEcho22P Let me check if the S2 Tracker is available from trumpeter. i kinda like the alien shape radar on the E1

But, I have Several "L'Arsenal" a-c....and they are VERY Good.... I Mean V E R Y Good!!!! And though they could be expensive, remember that A/C did not really have 80 planes on deck, at least not This ship, During That time being a CVS. So just buying one set Should be suffice for what you need to do, Personally..... I would get the "folded winged" ones, you could Easily break off the wings of just one (1) for "flight", Especially for 350 scale. (for me, it is a little harder in 700 scale). As far as the other a-c, I guess CV-11 had an E-1 or two (2) of those on deck, the 'Sea Sprite" BIG Time....that is an ASW helo and again "L'Arsenal" I ~Believe~ they could have those as well......but Not 3D-printed, so a little cheaper. @@CapLAGOS what!? it’s also on your build list? what a coincidence. and i’m jealous that you get to see the real deal in New York. i know there’s a 1/700 blackbird but have not seen any 1/350. was there a space shuttle on the museum ship? This kit has enough PE so i won’t get additional and waste the ones that comes with the kit. if i were to do a fast build i’ll have to skip the hangar bay and LED. i go with the flow so let’s see how it turns out.
@@modelar705 "Yes, but I haven't bought it yet, as I'm still busy with the escort ships. I don’t actually have the Blackbird yet; I’m still waiting for someone to print the Lockheed SR-71A Blackbird with their 3D printer. Taking your time with the construction is the right approach-that's what I always do. The journey is the goal. ;)"
@@CapLAGOS cool. go easy on your escort ships. True. the journey is the fun. but i can get impatient sometimes taking short cuts. 😅
These attennas are much better than the kit parts. After you asked me about sizes I also went and purchased several diameters and added them to my Enterprise stash too.
@@michaelcavanaugh1581 yes. definitely much nicer.
"Crazy, I also ordered these brass tubes... but to build the flyover of the Tomcat... I'm looking forward to seeing your deck crews... I think they add a lot to the scene! They bring life to the deck... nice update, I'm looking forward to more... I didn't build anything today... I was out cycling with my wife all day and doing sports... Cheers!^^"
@@CapLAGOS Thanks! exercise is good for a change. makes you want to go back for more modelling. hahah
@@modelar705 "Exactly! When I'm jogging on the treadmill, I think a lot about what I can still improve, but today, I didn't think about model building for once. Once I got home, it was hard not to think about it. 😂😉😊"
The big pod looks like a TARPs Pod (Tactical Air Reconnaissance Pod). When the RA-5C Squadrons were decommissioned in the late 70's reconnaissance missions passed to F-14s with TARPs. Dedicated reconnaissance squadrons were not needed as any F-14 squadron with TARPs capabilities could fulfill target pre and post strike assessments. A move towards lower deck loads for aircraft carriers.
@@michaelcavanaugh1581 I looked up TARP and yes it’s that thing. i got some colors wrong on it. guess i’ll have to fix it. Thanks for the information Mike!
@@modelar705 Sure no problem. The F-14 is looking great.
i want to know about the length of the aircralt for both model Tamiya & Trumpeter are they difference? Trumpeter may be smaller size or not?
@@netthailiberal They are both the same length. thanks
