The big pod looks like a TARPs Pod (Tactical Air Reconnaissance Pod). When the RA-5C Squadrons were decommissioned in the late 70's reconnaissance missions passed to F-14s with TARPs. Dedicated reconnaissance squadrons were not needed as any F-14 squadron with TARPs capabilities could fulfill target pre and post strike assessments. A move towards lower deck loads for aircraft carriers.
@@michaelcavanaugh1581 I looked up TARP and yes it’s that thing. i got some colors wrong on it. guess i’ll have to fix it. Thanks for the information Mike!
It Looks great this F-14B Tomcat (VF-102 / CVW-1) embarked on USS George Washington (CVN 73) - 1998 part of Carrier Air Wing 1 (CVW-1)..... Very Nice Job! i see GWH have great kits... nice weatherings also!^^
@@CapLAGOS The box indicates this version of Diamondbacks is on the CVN-71 USS Theodore Roosevelt 2001. The 1998 version has smaller markings on the tail with letters A and B on the outer side. Thanks CapLagos!
@@modelar705 oh ok they als participated in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) as well. After the events of September 11, 2001, VF-102, aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), was deployed to support combat operations in Afghanistan. The deployment was part of a broader coalition effort to dismantle terrorist networks and remove the Taliban regime from power. During Operation Enduring Freedom, the VF-102 Tomcats conducted various missions, including: Air Superiority Missions: Ensuring control of the skies over Afghanistan, protecting coalition forces, and preventing enemy aircraft from interfering with operations. Close Air Support (CAS): Providing support to ground troops by delivering precision-guided munitions on enemy positions, infrastructure, and vehicles. Reconnaissance Missions: Gathering intelligence and conducting surveillance to identify and track enemy movements, using the Tomcat's advanced sensor and targeting systems.
Very nice weathering, it looks incredible, hope this time, Goose will make it.
Take care, and all the best.
