Excellent! I have the USS Constellation with the entire MK-1 Designs pe set....what did I get into? 😂 I also need to finish my USS Iwo Jima, it's in the lighting stage and I still have to figure out how to do that. I love the blue interior lighting on your E!
thanks ! seems like we have similar ships . i have built the wasp and kittyhawk which is different version of conatallarion and iwo jima. you can check out my video on the kitty. i just used eduard island set. MK1 is crazy. have fun there 😄
First: Nice build! Second, I’ve noticed those who build the big carriers never install the stern skids…not a criticism, but I’m curious as to why that is.
@@modelar705 Sure. Stern skids is a slang term for an apparatus on the stern; it looks like steel beams covered in rubber. Its purpose, I believe, is to minimize wake. Or, it is used to distract torpedoes.
@@eugenebotkins2469 i was looking up on it and found out the vertical bars at the stern with rubbers is for tug boats when pushing. i think the earlier version of Big E didn’t have this. since the kit is designed in 80s i think the ship didn’t have it hence did not provide the parts. the stern skids are found on later versions of most aircraft carriers. i did see a photo of the big E with stern skids but that was in the year 2000 onwards. maybe that’s why most modelers don’t add that. i do have it on my kittyhawk which came with the kit.
@@eugenebotkins2469 i just checked the website seaforces.org and found out from 1958 to 1999, there is no stern skids on the ship. instead there’s the “L” shape structure which is given in the Eduard PE. there’s a whole lot more photos now compared to when i was building the kit. very good reference materials.
@@modelar705 Yes, the skids are a relatively recent development. Deciding what era to represent is always problematic. I’m guessing that’s why the kits always have the wrong aircraft. For example, S-2 trackers didn’t work very well and were usually used for COD for aerial refueling. They have not been embarked for a few decades. Same with A-6 Intruders and Growlers variant. For maybe 2 decades now? Hornets are now used also to replaced the A-6 Growler. Even the C-2 Greyhounds are gone, using the Osprey as COD. That is, if they ever get flying again. The Navy is now figuring out how to replace the E-2 which is pretty old. Another subject: With all the hours used to build, I wonder why builders don’t put fire hoses on the hose reels; easy enough to do, I would think, just take some wire and strip out the wire, and use the rubber coating. Nozzles would be harder, but maybe found in fire fighting vehicles? Food for thought.
Thanks! i used F14, F18D, F-18C, A7 Corsair 2, Viking, Prowler and Sea king helicopter. in the hangar bay is mostly the kits aircrafts which is not so good in shape and quality.
@@modelar705 yes I agree. Tamiya kits are not very good above all for the canopy. Trumpeters are better. Enterprise is also on my to do list. For the F18 I have also chosen the 3d-wild Models. They are e pensi e but really good for the quality!
@@Pauedo Cool, you have 3D Wild. yea it’s expensive so i don’t have anything from3D Wild. in fact my Enterprise from mini hobby model was very cheap about USD35. that’s why i had room for 3 sets of Eduard and crew, White Ensign for air wing . and decals.
i woulld someday but now i would still like to look at it. its still lacking the deck crew which i don’t have . and i want to change the side antennas to brass. i will still work on it when there’s an opening.
wow, giant aircraft carrier models ... 😍amazing video
Thanks!
absolutely incredible work!
Thanks Jim. It’s still not completely complete 😅
It is an amazing piece of work. Really well done!
Thanks Mike! appreciate your comments.

First: Thank you very much ! Second: I don’t know what’s a stern skid. please educate me what’s that?
