    Can’t believe the obvious hasn’t been stated yet: your leg load is off of the front foot Ideally it should feel 60/40 off of the back foot, but shouldn’t look like it on video Because you want to serve going forward, you’re too eager to weight transfer, so you shift forward ever so slightly before you make contact. When it’s time for you to make contact, your weight shift is spent, and you almost only have arms for explosion. One of my weirdest but favorite drills is serving without wearing the dominant side shoe. So for you, the right foot will be lower and a you can feel a lot more in the leg drive

If you step into the court a bit more and play more aggressively/hit harder at certain moments and also target his forehand more, you will win this match much faster and easier. You really can do that, but you do it too little. Is it a matter of confidence? I don't know how long you've been playing? Because you should be able to do that easily. Hey man. I see a very solid technique/fundamentals + a great slice serve. Obsviouly a great serve depends on what you are trying to get out of it. However, in my opinion, if we talk about the technique, I see the need to improve your "shoulder over shoulder" and on your toss. Your left arm is dropping too early and I believe it is related to your low toss. If we think about kinetic force, the less time you have to load, the less acceleration you will be able to generate. Therefore, tossing a little higher and trying to get your left arm to stay longer in the trophy position will possibly help you load better and hit a higher acceleration/power on your serve. Again, it depends on what kind of serve you are trying to hit, each kind has a different outcome. I also see you hit most of your serves slice which is ok, but it would be worth working on some pronation exercises that will help you develop kick and flat serve.

    • @sandratoplaystennis
      @sandratoplaystennis 23 дня назад

      Thank you for your analysis! I used to toss higher but I started tossing lower cause it helped me time the ball better. As a result, i got a more consistent serve, but lost a bit of power. But you’re right, I should try to get used to tossing and hitting the ball a bit higher again to give myself more time to load like you said, and hit flatter serves down the T and Wide. :)

    My vote is yes, you are. Hadn't seen you play this guy before. Your S & V tactic is improving all the time. I still see a fair number of your balls still landing mid court, and that can invite your opponent to attack. It seems that stems from an almost massaging of the ball on your swing. You are getting much better at placement, but maybe you lack the confidence to hit with more pace, fearing a loss of control? Not sure. I did see late in the video he was much better at just unloading on his shots, and they were penetrating through the court, giving you trouble. I would think that would be your next phase of stepping up. Add pace to your control. Just my two cents worth.

    forehand looking already more powerful, seems like you're hitting a bit flatter. Your backhands biggest issue from what I can see in this video is that you tend to hit it too thin which can be the result of not stepping into it, having too steep of an angle and not getting properly under the ball/swinging too early - basically all of the 3 points previously is hitting the ball a bit too much in front of you

Think the saying backhand is my shield, forehand is my sword. At this point of my tennis journey vs 5.0 players, what i need from my backhand is exactly spin and clearance to get high and deep balls to construct points so that i can either get a short ball where i can put away the winner, or a middle ball where i can run around to hit a forehand. While i enjoy ripping more backhands, the risk/reward is much better from ripping more forehands and serves rather than backhands at this stage of my tennis journey in my opinion. But thank you for your observation!

    Great placement on the serves and wicked spin too! At that level, can really inconvenience even experienced players. Are you happy with how they are or are you looking to get more power on them? Do you have any shoulder / upper body / arm injuries? If no injuries, a great exercise is standing half court and serving over the net into the opposing side's service box with your regular service motion, while focusing specifically on accelarating through the pronation. You can think of your kinetic chain as broken up into parts, starting all the way from the toes on your feet to your wrist, hand, and fingers, with all the other joints along the way. And I'm not saying think of this when you're on court playing, but when you practice, you can break it up into parts and work on the individual aspects of the chain that you identify as weaker. In this case, I think you can get a nice boost in power if you can work on that snappy pronation motion part of your kinetic chain. Standing half court and serving forces your body to focus on that pronation first and foremost to satisfy the conditions of the task. So you have no choice but to exaggerate the pronation motion. Then after warming up like that for a while and really getting a feel for that whipping motion with your shoulder and elbow, move back to full court and start slow back there again, but really focusing on the pronation again, and specifically, accelarating into the contact point like you're trying to whip it. Most importantly is just warm up as much as possible. I'm not a coach but I've been able to improve my own game by working on individual little segments of my own kinetic chain in every practice session for every ground-stroke. Good luck!

I do like the half court drill you mentioned to train my brain to increase pronation, which is something i forget to do from time to time and instead accelerate my arm. Pronation for more snap book could add a few valuable mph to my serve without too much technical changes, which is exactly what i'm looking for right now. I don't think that it's perfect, but i appreciate the thoughts! i used to mainly hit second serves because i see that up to 5.0, it's hard to take truly advantage of good kick serves. So i reduced greatly the number of double faults, while getting a few free points by varying the serve placement and spin. Now that i have time to practice and want to get better, i think it's important that i force myself to hit flatter serves more often but just enough to make my opponents know that any serves can come at any time.

    You have a decent serve and the good thing is it looks very repeatable. My main observation, and remember I'm just an idiot on the internet, is that your torso remains a bit too upright, so you don't create anywhere near as much distance between your racket and the ball as you need to generate serious pace. Also notice how when you load, you shift your weight forward very quickly, then slow down, before reaching up to the ball. I wonder if you could delay the momentum and keep more weight in your back leg to emphasise the weight transfer and leg drive? If you pause at 1.54 for example, notice that just as you're about to unload, your right toe is barely touching the ground, meaning hardly any leg drive is coming from the rear leg, which limits how much your hips and torso can drive.

    • @sandratoplaystennis
      @sandratoplaystennis 24 дня назад

      Thank you for your observations! First, let me tell you that though i dont think you're an idiot on the internet, simply mentioning it shows me that you have some open-mindedness and clarity about your own understanding vs thinking that you know it all. There are a lot of very good servers out there, and their serves can be very very different, so there isn't such a thing as simply copy this and that to improve your serve. At 1.54, i do see that there's an early forward motion that result in loss of momentum, hence power. that's a really good observation that i can be mindful of next time i play. Same thing about delaying my rotation to make more out of my leg drive. Again thank you for your comments!

    Everything honestly looks good. Only thing that would be lacking that I can see would be to find better understanding of your pronation. This is where a lot of your power will come from. Leg drive/coil/ect all look adequate. Your serves all look like a controlled serve at 75-80% of power. Which is good for 4.5. You will need to somehow to get to the same level of control at 90% power. Look into pronation a little more and that should take you to more power on serves with less effort. Review your videos and see what your racquet is doing right before and after making impact with the ball, and compare that with server analyzers for pro servers. You will instantly see what I mean by effortless power via pronation.

I was actually trying to test a different motion by keeping my wrist loose on the way up to signal my brain to hit with more wrist snap rather than swinging my arm faster. I can feel like my ball pops up a bit faster! You’re also right that I do hit a more controlled first serve. I don’t really go all power because that allows me to get more first serves in but draw more return errors, at least at 4.5-5.0 level, especially vs single-handed opponent. But I do need to force myself to work on hitting harder to get better!

  • @cipheredNom4d

    From my observation, you initiate your serve with what looks to be a decent coil but then you "relax" into a more "comfortable" position right before you accelerate. You can observe that perfectly when you watch the first two serves from your video in slow motion. It almost looks like your upper body follows the ball for a bit, opens up by that, until you decide to initiate the swing. As a result, you totally break out of a powerful, loaded position and also have not a lot of coil left to work with right before the acceleration phase. This leads to you having to compensate by generating a lot of force with your arm and shoulder to somehow be able to generate a decently fast serve. The second thing I would keep an eye on is the direction in which you transfer your weight. Try to transfer your weight more in the direction of the target you want to hit. Notice how pro players get into and remain in a solid, loaded stance and keep their body tension right before they generate their power through the uncoiling, the legs and weight transfer. The body needs to work as one unit. Try to generate the power more "through your body" instead of your shoulder/arm and think of "intensity" and "loading" and do not simply "fall relaxed into the direction of the ball" so to speak.. Hope this helps

      @cipheredNom4d 25 дней назад

      @@sandratoplaystennis Sorry if my explanation was a bit vague.. I try again: As others here also pointed out, what it comes down to is that you do not create enough power with the coiling motion of your upper body. This could even be because you shift your weight a lot into a non-optimal direction before uncoiling. Your whole body moves a lot to the right. I can't really tell if your ball toss maybe forces you to do that - hard to tell from these camera angles. Have a look at Tommy Paul for example: ruclips.net/video/nvDdhKOzIo4/видео.html It is filmed from kind of a similar camera angle, notice how stable he is in his trophy stance and how he remains fully coiled even when he starts transferring his weight forward. His body only moves forward, that's why it looks from behind as if he barely moves in any direction at all. You on the other hand move your body to the right a lot before uncoiling which puts you in an awkward position and you can't really uncoil or "unload" the force you generate from your rotation of your upper body and legs in the right direction.

    you have almost 0 coil from back to forward robbing you of a huge source of power, your power comes from arm and that slight skip forward; you could prob add 30+ mph if you learned how to coil your body backward making your body like a ''c'', it doesnt have to be huge coil like someone like roddick ( allthough the more coil you can have the more power you will get) but just a slight coil gives you so much more space for you to generate racket speed AND putting more body weight into the serve. Shoulder turn is good and use of legs is good. With how much forward you're traveling with your serve it seems like it would be way easier for you to learn a pin point stance rather than platform because it's very difficult to have a huge forward travel while coiling when in platform stance, I think the best example of someone who was able to do this was pete sampras, but he hit the ball lower (relative to his body) than you do and had more of a forward leaning serve style rather than jumping forward style as you do. summary: learn to coil your body, investigate sliding into pin point stance so you can keep that forward jumping style of serving

Based on my elbow it looks like I’m getting a decent amount of coil. I could get more for sure, but it would not add 30 mph but way less imo. Also what do you mean about giving me more space? I'm basing me saying you have little coil by observing the shape of your upper body and how it's not leaned back to any big degree and how your end position when you land is not that different from your trophy position, I think it would be easier to observe if you had an angle where it's from the side rather than the back.
