This model is rather unusual in that it has the head preamp as part of the head drum (flying preamp). The unit on top of the drum has slip rings to provide power to it. The coils for the head drum motor are part of the main circuit board and the magnet(s) are part of the head drum assembly. I think the serial number may give a clue to the manufacture date with the 4 meaning most likely 1994. Most or all VCR's of later manufacture were made in China. The empty connector is most likely a test point for connecting your oscilloscope for tape path alignment. There are 2 screws under the loading mechanism holding the chassis (note the two holes on the top of the loader). You will need to move the tape carriage inward slightly. I think this will allow you to remove the chassis. Be careful of the ribbon cables. That will allow you access to the mode switch to clean it. Look at the bottom of the main board for cracked solder connections (especially around the sensors and the LED).

I work at a pc repair shop. Your isn't worth fixing to game on but if you wanna learn this is perfect. I would try to swap the cpu before anything else. Also try adding a cheap gpu that is known working. I've seen the boards half work but the igpu doesn't work. If that fails after you tried both then i would finally replace the board. It also could be the ram so i would consider replacing that first. I can mail you some if you need it.

Hey there I forgot to say that I'm using a VGA cable not an HDMI lol if you were wondering hahaha.

That's pretty old fashioned for 1986. I had a similar unit, branded Pye (a British company owned by Philips - more or less equivalent to Magnavox I guess, a respected manufacturer who hit the skids financially in the '70s and was bailed out) from 1983 that actually looked less dated than this thing, both inside and out. From the era when Korean stuff was pretty cheap and nasty 😂
