I picked up a Toshiba VCR for $5 lets see what's wrong with it!

    This model is rather unusual in that it has the head preamp as part of the head drum (flying preamp). The unit on top of the drum has slip rings to provide power to it. The coils for the head drum motor are part of the main circuit board and the magnet(s) are part of the head drum assembly. I think the serial number may give a clue to the manufacture date with the 4 meaning most likely 1994. Most or all VCR's of later manufacture were made in China. The empty connector is most likely a test point for connecting your oscilloscope for tape path alignment. There are 2 screws under the loading mechanism holding the chassis (note the two holes on the top of the loader). You will need to move the tape carriage inward slightly. I think this will allow you to remove the chassis. Be careful of the ribbon cables. That will allow you access to the mode switch to clean it. Look at the bottom of the main board for cracked solder connections (especially around the sensors and the LED).

    Great video everything proven in the old days people was nothing to know about mode switches in VCR need to get clean out every know and then now days they show you how clean out mode switch in VCR players off RUclips now days people like myself does clean out mode switch in VCR players every time I buy them offline for 30 dollars off eBay and Amazon now days
