Hidden Gems of Olympic Natural Hot Springs
The Olympic Hot Springs are a delightful destination in Olympic National Park. There are several little pools there that can be found at road's end of the Upper Elwha Road after following the old abandoned road just over two miles to the Boulder Creek Campground. The springs are beautiful and the water temperature is perfect for us to soak in.

Journey to the Summit of South Sister Mountain. Stunning Views Descending
Просмотров 5014 дней назад
Join me virtually to enjoy the journey to the summit of South Sister, Oregon. South Sister, standing at 10,363 feet, is the third tallest mountain in Oregon and the highest of the famous Three Sisters chain. The summit trail is a steep, long, and rugged climb, but it does not require technical climbing skills. We were there on June 30th 2024 when most trail is covered in snow. From the summit, ...
Mt. San Jacinto Summit from Devil's Slide Trail

Mt. San Jacinto is the second tallest peak in Southern California at 10,834 ft. There are several routes/trails to the 10,834 foot summit. We wanted to hike from the Devil’s Slide trail from Humber Park in Idyllwild, as this route overlaps a section with PCT and is a new route for us.

    In the Netherland we cannot pick that amount of wildberries. More than 200 gram is considdered poaching

    • @merlots
      @merlots 3 дня назад

      @nikiepunt8631 There are many types of wild berries. This type, blackberries are very thorny, and they are everywhere, mostly residential and low elevation, even by the road. There are also wild blueberries and huckleberries found in the mountains. Bears love them. Humans can only reach the ones by the trail, which is not a lot, considering how vast the wilderness is.

    Don't forget to never pick wild berries that are lower than your knees on a bush. Because foxes will pee on the lower branches and some of them have a virus that can do major harm to people.

      Its not the teason why. They tell you this because you would leave them alone and other forrest animals have a chance of eating berries too. We can pick the ones father up a bush. They cannot.

    I did Cactus 2 Clouds shortly after this. All the snow is gone above Wellmans divide. I’ve never done Devils Slide, I will have to try it. I’ve done c2c, Deer Springs loop and Marion. It is a fun place to hike. Thanks for sharing.

    • @merlots
      @merlots Месяц назад

      Congratulations on C2C, very hard core. We have done C2C a few years back, some route findings but enjoyed the restaurant and cable car on our way down. You also summited via Marion Mountain Trail 2E14? 5.6 miles with 4500 ft gain. (I just googled it but never done it). Devil's Slide trail will be a walk in the park for you. We actually wanted to do a lollipop loop around Marion Mountain, so we arrived the trailhead around 7am. Did not know we needed permits. Also heard there's still a lot of slippery snow on PCT, so we just did out and back. Thank you for watching and leaving comments and shared the other routes. It certainly is a very popular mountain.

    • @Smashycrashy
      @Smashycrashy Месяц назад

      Marion has lots of roots/rocks the first couple of miles and really isn’t that enjoyable. Devils slide looked way better. I’ve been on part of Devils slide to peak as part of the Deer Springs loop. I really love the view going down from Wellmans divide and the two ciengas to get water. Looking at your other videos, you two are very accomplished hikers, I look forward to checking out other videos.

    Crossing streams is a basic backcountry skill that you need to learn. Often you can rock hop, but there are many exceptions, even in the Sierra which are drier than most ranges. I have sandals, and just take off the boots and put on sandals to wade across. That stream looks easily crossed in that manner. You do have to be careful about current and slippery rocks, and poles are great for balance. But it's just part of the deal.

    • @merlots
      @merlots 3 месяца назад

      Thanks.There's no need for tour guide. We booked the hotel package with snorkeling and watching Dolphins activities. You can also decide what activities to do after you arrive. I like to explore. it's only 3 miles from West End to West Bay. I got up early and jogged along the coastline. That's why you don't see too many people in the video because it was taken early in the moring. You can also take water taxi or road taxi. However I think Roatan is most famous for aquatic activities. Snorkeling to observe fish is fun. I wish I could dive :)

      I went last weekend, 3/29, before it started raining again. Yes, I think now is good time to go. 2019 super bloom was special, I don't think this year it will be like that (I had an old video). Still great to visit and explore the huge fields. Yes, you can drive and hike to the hills when appropriate. Be careful not to get your car stuck driving on remote bumpy road. You can hike up until reaching the fenced boundaries. Please use tracking app to track your hike so you don't get lost in the wilderness. Soda lake is wonderful to visit. The drone view is spectacular. You can also explore San Andes Fault by hiking up Wallace Creek. At around 23 min, this video captured 3 coyotes. Enjoy your trip!

      Thanks for your kind words. As you can see, early season with snow is easier to deal with than scree. My husband drew the route map at 10ish min mark to show the right route - Starr, and the wrong path we took in Aug - SSH. Nevertheless, it's a challenging and fun climb and rewarding, even we did not summit. We wanted to climb Mt Sill from Sierra High Route last year but canceled. We are not done with Mt. Sill yet :) Good luck with your climb. I hope I will have the opportunity to close encouter Palisade Glacier again. It's mesmerizing.

    This video is everything! I think most people don’t even know there are glaciers in California, and in the Sierra Nevada, and would be astonished to find that out. That is if they even found it interesting, a lot of people don’t even blink an eye when I tell them there are glaciers here. I think it’s amazing and wonderful, and precious that we still have them in the face of worsening climate change which is evident everywhere you look. One day too soon they will be gone. Thankfully enough snow falls in the winter and at that altitude the blaze of ever hotter summers hasn’t made as strong of an impact. But of course they are shrinking. So having an adventure like this while we still can is something I can’t wait to do myself and the video you made exciting as well as important. I’ve seen videos where people hike to the ridge and look down on it but never hike down close to it which seems crazy to me. Why someone would hike all this way just to look at it from a distance is beyond me I would have to get close enough to touch it. Like touching history or time literally frozen in thousands of layers of compressed snow and ice. So nice to see it up close and get the perspective of seeing it in contrast to a person next to it and right above it. Well done and beautiful, thank you!

    • @merlots

      Thank you for sharing your deep thought. Your statement is so eloquently put: "I would have to get close enough to touch it. Like touching history or time literally frozen in thousands of layers of compressed snow and ice." Exactly how I felt at that time, immersed in its magnitude and serenity. Compared to other well known mountains on the west coast, Rainier, Hood, Adams, this is a less visited location (which is a good thing). Hope you have opportunity to stand before it and witness its beauty in history.
